I know that this may not appeal to everyone here, but the Rugby Union Six Nations Championship is about to start again this weekend :D

For those you are unaware, the Six Nations competing are England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France and Italy. Last year Wales won it, so they are a good bet and France are always strong. England are still going through a regenerataion phase but we could mount a challenge....I hope ;)

The first round of games will be:

    Ireland V Italy
    England V Wales
    Scotland V France

Here?s the official website for more info: Six Nations Website

    Good luck to all nations!!

Well go Ireland! (I haven't got a clue about rugby though, wanted to try it once when I saw a team searching for female rugbyplayers, but I didn't have the time)

Playing Rugby is not for the faint hearted, but can be good fun, especially when it's really muddy :p

Ireland are a strong team too and could also be worth a bet.

Now I'm not sure if that's genuine enthausiasm or German sarcasm coming from you Marte?? :p
But I guess there is plenty for both men and women to enjoy....don't you just love how tight fitting the shirts are now, lol ;)

Sorry to disappoint you ladies, but no rain is forecast for any of this weekends games, so mud will be lacking ;)

I'll give everyone a score update after today's games and for tomorrow's game too.

    Today's scores:

    Ireland 26 - 16 Italy

A tight game and Italy can feel a bit unlucky.

    England 47 - 13 Wales

This game was also tight for quite a while, but England went into overdrive and completely outpowered the Welsh. Looks like the England Rugby team is back in business  :D

Yesterday's game produced a real shock result:

    Scotland 20 - 16 France

France were favourites to win the whole thing, so this result has left the championship wide open. It's also the first time in ten years that Scotland have beaten France on home soil. Well done to the Scots!!

 Now it's sad but understandable that Wales lost to the English, but now my other favourite team has lost as well?
*wonders if it's worth going into mourning*

I was away all weekend so couldn't see any of the matches. But here are the scores:

    France 43 - 31 Ireland
    Italy 16 - 31 England
    Wales 28 - 18 Scotland

So after two rounds the table looks like this:

    Country Pts
    England 4
    France 2
    Ireland 2
    Scotland 2
    Wales 2
    Italy 0

So far, very tight. Next week we may have a clear winner ;)
The next round of matches will be:
    France v Italy
    Scotland v England
    Ireland v Wales

My college has a rugby team. I've seen them play a couple
times becuase I have some friends on the team.

Crazy Sport. Especially liked when they all did mud slides
after the game was over. lol
Anyways I think I'll route for Ireland

I didn't want to talk about Rugby last week (oooh, I wonder why?? :p ) but here are the results from the last round (25/2):
    France 37-12 Italy
    Scotland 18-12 England
    Ireland 31-5 Wales

    And here's the table:
    England 4
    France 4
    Ireland 4
    Scotland 4
    Wales 2
    Italy 0

So, it's incredibly tight and this weekends games are crucial.

Marte, for your safety I'd support England, especially if you're in England at the time ;)
I think it's going to be a tough game for England but hopefully we can do it.

Pete, have you been tempted to join the team?? Mud slides must be an North American thing because we certainly don't do that here :p
We usually do this funny hand clapping thing.

    Next round of games:
    Wales vs Italy
    Ireland vs Scotland
And the big one on Sunday....France vs England

    Don't ask! :p

Okay, as someone who doesn't care about Rugby anymore, here are the results from this weekends macthes ;) :

    Wales 18-18 Italy
    Ireland 15-9 Scotland
    France 31-6 England

A woeful England performance littered with errors. The England manager is blaming it on a stomach bug that's hit the team. A pretty lame excuse or maybe french food is that bad afterall (joke ;) ).

    The table looks like this:
    France 6
    Ireland 6
    England 4
    Scotland 4
    Wales 3
    Italy 1

So, it's between France and Ireland. The final round of matches are:
    Italy vs Scotland
    Wales vs France
    England vs Ireland

I think France will win the Championship on Score difference, but should be an interesting final round.

    Rubbish!! I hate rugby :p

Congratulations to France. Although Wales played very well and deserved to win that match. I also think the video ref was wrong to award one of France?s tries. I agree Maat, the Welsh No.9 was great, as was Gavin Henson although I prefer his hair style from last year?s 6 nations, lol.

England were very unlucky not to win also. Two very bad decisions from the touchline ref cost us 12 points, and a last gasp try gave Ireland victory in a very tight game. Considering it was quite a new and inexperienced England team though, we did pretty well.

And as I predicted, France only won the championship on score difference ;)
Okay, here are the final scores and tables:

    Italy 10 - 13 Scotland
    Wales 16 - 21 France
    England 24 - 28 Ireland

    France 8 (+63)
    Ireland 8 (+34)
    Scotland 6
    England 4
    Wales 3
    Italy 1

So France win the trophy, Ireland get the triple crown, and poor Italy get the woodenspoon.

And next year it?s the Rugby World cup in France, so the 6 nations may be a very good indication what to expect for that one. I think New Zealand will win it easily though :p
