The pessimist in me says, "that's a son trying to ride daddy's coattails." Happened to Jakob Dylan, too.

 

Is this going to be like the Gävle Goat, where we all bet against it ever getting to its big day?

 

There's a long list of things that could stop it from happening, but the odds of a lot of them, like a major asteroid strike, are very small. Other kinds of strikes might be more likely.

 

Its that time of year again isn't it?

 

I'd go see that. It looks like Villeneuve has made Chani more of a Paul skeptic to add some tension and drama to their romance, which I can live with. The novel's "we're high; let's mate," can seem a bit perfunctory. If the Sandworms breaching the shield wall scene doesn't sell you then you are completely immune to the subtle charms of Dune.

 

So they show Feyd in the arena, but will they delve into

It will apparently be 2 3/4 hours long, so only 10 minutes longer than part 1.

His uncle orders them all strangled in the book, but I guess they really want to, er, drive home the point about Feyd's love of knives.

 

The sound effects were great in the theater for 1, especially the Bene Gesserit scenes.


Trailer looks very good.

It does seem too much focus on a love story, which I don’t think is that much of a driving force in the book, but probably ok as long as Paul and Chani don’t give their opinions of sand.

 

this trailer review makes some good points but it is also a delightful ode to why you should never review your videos auto closed captions which in this case introduce us to a vast array of delightful concepts and characters, including,

-the planet June, otherwise known as arus
-the princess Ulan, played by Florence Pew, in a scene at the Royal caught on planet kitane
-Paul tradies, aka Paul trad of the House of tradies, or the House of atres, or the house at trades, the alleged messianic figure known as the quized ha back long sought after by reverend mother Helen -mihim who is one of the leaders of the Benny jesser order.

-and the villainous Fade Rawar, with whom Paul has a decisive Chris Knife battle
-drinking the Water of Life gives reverend mothers access to ancestral memories, including that of the fans

will we get to see Paul's sister Aaliyah atres in part 2?
will we see lady Margo fering?
what about the East Raban of house henin?
how much detail will we get about the Benny jesser long term plan and the fans' role in it?

 

Who gives a ****? There are like 12 Dune prequels and they are all absolute ass. I would not recommend them to hated enemies. I would shoot a man before subjecting him to a copy of The Butlerian Jihad as a mercy. There is no way in any hell anywhere that show is good.

Edit: In fact, because I know exactly how this works at this point, to whatever person in this thread in the future who says they actually enjoyed the series despite everyone else saying it sucks, on the off chance you go back and find this post: your tastes are terrible and I apologize for nothing.

 

Well, unless the show ignores the books. In which case, it could be good.

It won’t be.

 

I mean, depends on how loosely it’s based on those, yeah, terrible books.

Though it will be critical for the production to maintain a restraining order against Brian Herbert. He can absolutely be nowhere near the set.

 

It's not impossible the show could be well made with great scripts, but I still don't understand why anyone would bother making this show or who could possibly be clamoring to see it. Even a Dune Messiah movie or miniseries or limited series seems like a hard sell. Dune fandom is just not that wide or deep.

 

Why would people not want a TV show based in the same world as a recently successful and satisfyingly epic science fiction film, and one that has a long-standing fan following rooted in popular sci-fi books that inspired Star Wars?
