The idiot just stood there a pretty long time, while hydraulics hoisted Kenobi up and slashed him. Not much of a pie to Sidious.

You can't blame Maul for bad writing. He had to remain still and stupified at that point because the plot demanded that Obi-Wan had to win.

Not that I'm arguing that this applies to a stage in a video game, but you understand that for a fictional character, the are the writing, yes? They cannot possibly be anything other than how they are written, because outside of what is written for them, they don't exist.

But standing motionless letting Obi-Wan slice him in two isn't something Maul would have done.

I've been trying real hard to keep from posting more in this thread...but yes, it is something Maul would have done, because as has been stated, he is a fictional character. Regardless of how he has subsequently been portrayed, the bottom line is that his story ends with him being caught off guard and sliced in half. Darth Maul is a fictional character, meaning it is something he would have done. And did.

It's possible for a fictional character to act out of character you know. Perhaps Maul was having some kind a seizure while he was standing like a statue waiting for Obi-Wan to slice him I don't know. But it's best not to fixate too much on that.

    ...[face_tired]

At the time, TPM was the only appearance of Darth Maul, so his lethal moment of shock was in character. Perhaps it has become out of character (to some) in retrospect due to how he has been portrayed in other materials, but I don't see it that way. Its not a seizure, its a dude who is so shocked that the Padawan he had beaten dead-to-rights had just made an insane Force Jump that he doesn't raise his saber to block a deadly blow. It doesn't seem all that odd, really.

You to take account of the build up to before that moment as well, he starts out as a deadly Sith taking on two Jedi at a time and slaying the master then he suddenly becomes, because the story demands it, a chump, as someone already pointed out. But I don't think it's fair to judge him on that momentary slip of concentration.

Sure it is. If he were professional, he should be above stupid stunts like gloating. Maul thought he was hot stuff, and he wasn't as hot as he thought. That made him a chump, and it made him die like a chump.

Anakin too just seemed to stand there a good moment, just letting Dooku slice his arm. [face_thinking]
