I saw it last Saturday and thought it was hilarious. So did the guy I went with.

Interesting that these comments are coming from the audience that this movie was NOT intended for.

Anyway, I find it amusing that none of you have even seen it. I bet you all liked AI right? (Steaming pile of crap that it was.)

Anyway, for all of you who said Eddie Murphy sucks....his latest movies do. But Beverly Hills Cop is one of the funniest movies EVER.

On the other hand, the U2 b-side of the same name is not that bad.

    Who was it intended for?

My 18-year-old girlfriend thinks it sucks as well.

Anyway, I find it amusing that none of you have even seen it. I bet you all liked AI right? (Steaming pile of crap that it was.)

People that didn't like A.I. didn't understand the plot, from what I've noticed.

A.I. and LotR were the only movies I saw in 2001, and I saw both twice.

Bad year for movies. This year looks pretty bad too.

Unfortunately, Cameron Diaz can't hold a movie by herself. If you really hate Diaz, go watch Vanilla Sky. She's the girl to hate in that movie.

Some of my favorite romantic comedies:

    Say Anything
    Almost Famous
    The Sure Thing
    The Princess Bride
    Some Kind of Wonderful
    Strictly Ballroom
Moulin Rouge! (if you like musicals)

Then you're saying that intelligence keeps us from being the intended audience?

Forgive me if I occasionally like a movie with a good non-linear plot and more emphasis on philosophy than jokes about bodily functions.

I understood the plot of AI just fine. And it just sucked.

And Cameron Diaz looks like a horse. She can't act, so lets all do ourselves a favor and not see any of her movies. Maybe then people will stop putting her in movies and we'll never have to see her bizarre wardrobe choices and uncombed hair again.

Sturm You still never answered me...have you actually seen it or are you just judging it from the trailer?

And yes, I saw AI, and yes, I understood the plot just fine. It was just told in a manner that did not appeal to my senses. It was the only movie during which I fell asleep in the theater.

For the record, I don't like Cameron Diaz either. I think she sucks, but I'm playing Devils Advocate. ;)

But how can you say that this year will be a bad year for movies?

    AOTC
    Spiderman
    MiB II
    Eight Legged Freaks
    HP II
    The Two Towers
    Star Trek Nemesis

    and others.

You forgot Gangs of New York. Seriously, I think that's going to be the best film this year.

Maybe Scorsese will finally get his Oscar. Hopefully, anyway.

Good Lord... Star Trek X was just mentioned as "proof" that this will not be a bad year for movies.

I think Sturm's main point was missed (didn't read the whole thread).
Forget Sweetest Thing for a second...
Why does Hollywood keeping spanking out these disgusting, formulaic, unfunny and unromantic 'Romantic Comedies?'
Meg Ryan's entire freaking career consists of them (Kate & Leopold... vomit).
Julia Roberts has the ability to make them sell tickets, but not the ability to make them not suck.
    etc. etc. etc.

These movies come out so fast and furious you can't even keep track of them.

You're not alone Sturm, it will always baffle me too.

I'm actually going to stand up for Cameron Diaz here. She's a great actress. The problem is that they're really aren't that many great roles for women in Hollywood. Maybe if they're old there is, but not for young women.

She's done The Last Supper, Keys to Tulsa, There's Something About Mary, Very Bad Things, and Being John Malkovich to name a few, which are all great movies.

The problem is, the supposed 'big' movies that she's done, she's played stereotypical roles. This is true for a lot of actors who usually star in independant films. Look at Steve Bushemi, who was the 'nutty astronaut' in Armageddon.

Don't blame the actress, blame the system that makes these crappy movies. I defy any of you to find a young modern actress who hasn't done one or two romantic comedy type movies.

And harshly critizing a movie that you haven't seen is like arguing that a restaurant you've never eaten at has the best food in the city.

    Rogue1 HP II = Harry Potter 2

Kiki Why does Hollywood makes these movies? One simple reason. They're cheap to make and they make money. No special effects, Cameron Diaz and other actresses of her caliber don't command the high salaries of someone like Jodie Foster or Julia Roberts... etc

Hmmm... can I keep talking about how terrible The Postman is even though I've never seen it? Sure, I'm just playing the odds, but I'm pretty sure it sucks, right?

    AYBABTU?

Oh, sorry Kiki I forgot to add the [image=http://www.musicparadise.com/ebay/cds/rt/spice%20girls%20spiceup.jpg]

EDIT: AYBABTU, no you can not critisize Costner's Postman. You should love him the way a grandmother loves her cats.

    Good points Elf.
Thanks B'omarr (turns off suicide machine)

I'm going to go ahead and defend criticizing a movie you haven't seen (but I'm NOT talking about Sweetest thing, which I'm totally indifferent too)

Hollywood movies have gotten so predictable: who doesn't know Pearl Harbor is a slow, pretentious would be epic with a great battle scene as its centerpiece or that The Wedding Planner was a paint by numbers romantic comedy in which he realizes-right on time, that he really loves Jennifer 'Ho'pez instead of his bride... without seeing them?

Not all romantic comedies suck. I though When Harry Met Sally was good. As for Diaz, she acts like she would be fun to hang out with like a normal person not a stuck up ***** like most other female actors. I agree the lack of good parts for females does hurt the way they come off to the populace. Old women get better serious parts, young women are always there to play the part of the hot girl.

Harry met sally is a masterpiece.

I saw Sweetest thing with some lady friends on the opening night, i went in thinking id be disappointed but i liked it. I found it quite funny, which is surprising because im a huge critic. Plus Applegate is a fox.
But still i thought it was funny, the plot was obviously bad and the same as so many, but meh.

B'ommar: Wow, great post. It's true. The system is messed up. Ageism is a bad thing too, you know. :D

The thing about When Harry Met Sally is that it was really trying to say something, besides just being there for the grossout laughs.

And, yeah, leave Costner alone. Pre-Robin Hood Costner is almost entirely genius. Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, Dances With Wolves, Untouchables, etc. If only he hadn't let it go to his head. . .

Who the hell called Almost Famous a romatic comedy?

One of my favorite movies of all time. I am quite sure Crowe, me and everybody else on this planet disagrees with you on that one bud.

That dancing part at the end of the trailer really makes me cringe... Especially if you look at the stupid expression on her face :(

Sturm You still never answered me...have you actually seen it or are you just judging it from the trailer?

All I've seen is commercials, and three people's opinions who called into Mark & Brian. One lady brought her 5-year-old daughter, while two other callers thought it was crap, and certainly not a movie for little kids...But hey, that's Hollywood. They get 'em young.

But how can you say that this year will be a bad year for movies?

    AOTC
    Spiderman
    MiB II
    Eight Legged Freaks
    HP II
    The Two Towers
    Star Trek Nemesis

    and others.

AotC doesn't count for me, just as LotR and A.I. for 2001. That's why I mentioned them.

I still think that, overall, 2001 and this year look bad for movies, IMO.

Spiderman looks okay, but I'm not very excited. It just looks like any other Matrix/superhero rip-off. Never saw the first MiB...Not excited at all for Part II. I don't know what Eight-Legged Freaks is. I'm intrigued by the new Harry Potter, as I though the first one was okay, if not memorable. The Two Towers will be excellent, just like AotC, and finally, unless they completely rewrote the script to ST:Nemesis, I'm not going to see it. It sounded bad, and the ST movies are completely hit-or-miss affairs. It's kinda like Bond...They just keep going, and it gets old.

And harshly critizing a movie that you haven't seen is like arguing that a restaurant you've never eaten at has the best food in the city.

If enough ( trustworthy ) people rave about the food at said resturant, I would say it's good. :)
