Not necessarily. Nihilism just means no inherently objective meaning, but you can make your own, and that that is all everyone else is doing anyways.

As I said, that it has no objective/inherent meaning, which is in most religious principles, or even religiously-neutral principles like human rights. But that doesn’t mean they have no moral principles, values, or don’t find meaning in life. It’s an umbrella term for a whole different spectrums of views.

No, that's the point, Optimistic Nihilism isn't an oxymoron at all. If nothing matters in the grand scheme of things, you as an individual are completely freed of any outside constraints. You can have exactly the life you want. Even atheism isn't as freeing as nihilism, because atheists tend to believe that the things they do in this life matter since there isn't another one. The true nihilist is absolutely free. What is there to be pessimistic about? You literally can't do the wrong thing if you're a nihilist. You have no fear of bad things happening to you because those things can't have any lasting impact on you; you have no fear of harming other people because nothing you do can impact any one else in any meaningful way; you have no shame and no regrets because it is literally impossible to make mistakes. I'm not a nihilist by any means, but nihilists who are depressed are really not doing it right.

it's funny because i've been calling myself an optimistic nihilist for years and i honestly thought i made it up. i had no idea it was a thing.

Atheism is a stance on whether there are higher beings aka deities or not. There is significant overlap between atheism and certain moral views, but atheism doesn't necessitate any specific moral view.

 

Would technically sects of Satanism that only adhere to the devil as role model of how to live but do not worship him as a god, be consider a branch of Atheism? Since they do not have a deity.

I know Anton LeVey felt that way, Satan was a role model for life. He freaked when he went to a coven meeting and they attempted to conjure Satan.
