Its all about execution and skills in how to make images believable, dynamic and visually poetic. Takashi just won an Oscar for Godzilla Minus One last night. On a $ 15 mill dollar budget. Not sure if he has ever used The Volume, but he sure is a big Star Wars fan and he can shoot a big «visual effects movie» using various technical methods / tools.

It’s kind of fascinating to me how when the Volume was made known that it was a celebrated achievement, a realization of everything Lucas was trying to achieve but didn’t have the technology to achieve back in the prequel era.

Now it’s become a dirty word for a select number of people. I can’t say I’ve seen a Star Wars show or movie where the Volume was used and I was like, “Yo, there’s totally not a set there.” Maybe it’s because I don’t know what to look for, but I’ve never seen something so obvious that it was distracting.

The Volume was used heavily in some of the most beautifully-lit and shot episodes of the Mandalorian, including those that take place heavily in natural environments (such as The Child), while some of the worst-looking episodes were shot on location and without the Volume (such as The Tragedy), which is also the case with some poor-looking episodes in BoBF, which were shot on a backlot set instead of using the Volume (ninja ambush, slow vespa chase, the finale, etc), while by far the best-looking episode, Bryce Dallas-Howard’s Mando one, was all Volume.

However, this anti-Volume narrrative has taken on a beastly life of its own on the interwebs, and there’s simply no combating it. The aggressive ignorance is too strong.

It also looks positively fantastic in The Batman, and despite earlier reports to the contrary, it was in fact used in Andor... and I think nearly every Star Wars fan to a person would agree that Andor looks superb.

An earlier version of it was also prototyped in Rogue One.

How do you feel about the Wall the Volume is building?
Did you know that the Volume isn't vegan?
    The Volume stole the election.
    The Volume doesn't pay taxes.
The Volume tried to pray the sets away.
The Volume will take your job.
The Volume doesn't think women should have a choice, but also performs abortions, free of charge.
The Volume will erase the Second Amendment, and make Kumbaya the national anthem.

If you’re not speaking out loudly about the quiet harms of The Volume, your silence is violence.

If they don't use the Volume, you can't have any pudding.
How can you have any pudding if they don't use the Volume?
You! Yes, you behind the keyboard!
    Stand still, laddy!
    I mean... stay seated!

When its motivation is low, or even flat, Christian Slater is oftentimes recruited to pump up the Volume.

I'm guessing you didn't see the "Willow" series. Not surprising tho, most folks didn't either. (I tapped out after Slater's ep myself.)

Looking back, I’m still surprised Disney has not invested in a new Old Republic era, no plans currently to even do a movie in those eras. The best periods to bring back the Sith (while making them different, pre-RoT) without resorting to another “somehow the Sith returned”. More freedom in portraying Jedi, not limited to Rey and her students.

I love the idea of DoTJ, but for a general audience, it’s not a good idea as the first introduction of an ancient Star Wars era on screen (I don’t count The Acolyte since that is only 100yrs pre TPM).

25,000 years prior to TPM means the galaxy is going to be VERY different from what we are used to.

While Old Republic eras can be set closer. The last era is Darth Banes period. Around 1000+ prior to TPM. Meaning you can have a movie (or trilogy) that is quite different looking from the Saga but still has more familiarity then DoTJ. So Banes period works best imo for newcomers to Old Republic, him creating the RoT creates a strong connection to TPM.

Afterwards I would go back further to the hundred year darkness, around 4000 years before Bane. The origins of the Sith. An event that was barely covered in Legends. The time difference allows for a different looking galaxy then Banes era.

Then finally DoTJ. After the audience is already used to ancient Star Wars, now being given ancient ancient Star Wars.

There may not be any immediate plans for an Old Republic series but it was one of the designated eras that they announced they would explore at Celebration. So obviously they have a plan for it eventually.

And, as almost a statement of intent, there is an Old Republic section under the "Eras" page on the official website. They definitely have plans – it's more a matter of "when" than "if."
