Jania was able to sense Daala's revlation to Leia from clear across the galaxy?

    Cool....

I do agree that the idea is Made. Of. Awesome. And I think that the twins aren't hiding, they're planning. There's a difference Daala, Sith don't hide. And who in the Jedi Order would be a match for either twin much less both? I can't think of anyone, unless they massively team up, which leaves them in even more danger (bombs ahoy?). Can't wait for the next update!

Jade: I think I'll start on the Thrawn-era project after NaNo is over (should I have not worn out my keyboard). And yes, I couldn't resist that conversation. You know Daala's going to pay for that slip of the tongue later.
Cambius: Either that, or she has some darn good spies.
Jaina: Indeed. Sith plot and scheme. Mwahaha, I can't promise a happy ending. But right now... I think the Jedi are in a bit over their heads.
Vader: Oh yes. Sith are awesome. There's a reason why they tend to be frequent characters in my stories.

And here's another update, while I'm busy studying German by reading Wookieepedia in German. I understand far more than I thought I would. Studying another language is a great excuse to read interesting things in the language.

    Chapter 21: The Sun

?What are you planning?? Caedus was automatically suspicious of Jaina?s recent silence. ?You?re never quiet for long without there being some trouble about.?

?It?s none of your business.? Jaina was smiling a bit oddly. ?A recent idea of mine came through a bit better than I?d hoped it to. And no, it isn?t anything that would affect you.?

?I don?t believe a word of it.? Caedus stalked off, obviously suspecting that something was wrong.

?Oh, you wouldn?t believe it if I told you,? Jaina said softly after he had left.

?What is Jaina doing?? Caedus glanced at Vergere, who sat in a dark alcove.

The Force ghost ruffled her feathers a bit. ?Well, I don?t know whether that really is your business.?

?I thought we were done with all of the games,? Caedus hissed. ?You?re never quite willing to tell me anything, especially when it might be important. You?re still as deceptive as ever, following your own agenda. What are you and Jaina doing??

?How do you know I?m involved in whatever underhanded things she may or may not be planning??

    ?I know you.?

?So be it.? Vergere looked oddly pleased. ?I?ll leave it up to Jaina to tell you or not what she?s doing. She may not want to share her project with you until it?s completed to her satisfaction.?

Just after Caedus had left, Jaina walked over to where Vergere was sitting. ?He?s certainly suspicious.?

?Well, what do you expect? You act like you?re plotting something, if you?d care to share it with me??

?It?s a bit of a long story.? Jaina gave Vergere a suspicious look oddly reminiscent of one of Caedus?. ?I know you well enough to not trust you with anything really important; I can?t trust that you won?t betray me.?

?Whose side do you think I?m on right now??

?That doesn?t matter. I don?t think you?re on either side- you pretend to like Caedus or myself to gain our trust, and from there you often exploit that a bit much.?

    ?A bit much??

?I needn?t remind you of everything you did to Jacen on Yuuzhan?tar.? Jaina glared at Vergere, who was beginning to fade.

Vergere didn?t respond at all, but instead vanished.

Jaina wandered through the Valley of the Dark Lords to where the old shuttle was hidden. She was ready to leave Korriban, leave Caedus there to rot for a while, and once her work was done, return to finish him off.

As she powered up the shuttle, she wondered what Vergere would think of it. The feathery little ghost had admitter her lack of loyalty to either Caedus or Jaina, and probably had some sort of ulterior motives. Vergere was just the sort who would play Jaina and Caedus against each other and see if either of them were able to survive.

Well, the ultimate result was obvious. Caedus was going to have to die soon, and from what he had said to Jaina, he fully expected it. Jaina had a plan already, and just had to get to Coruscant in one piece.

?Who are you and why are you here?? The GAG officers assigned to Chief of State Daala were understandably quite protective of her.

Jaina couldn?t resist seeing how long she could keep them arguing before she used some Force persuasion. ?I told you.
My identity is none of your business. If you tell Chief Daala that an associate with some very urgent business is here to see her, she?ll understand.?

?How do we know that you

    Hi:

Good luck with NaNo. :D It takes a lot of self-discipline and inspiration to write for 30 days straight... definitely speaks to the need of a detailed outline ;)

Super update and don't leave us hanging please. :)

Jade: Thanks. I made it, just barely. Sigh.
Cambius: She's going to have to learn this the hard way.
Jaina: Not necessarily likes, just finds presently useful. And [face_devil] is quite appropriate.

NaNo is over, and therefore you get more. This is a bit of a long one- after this, all that remains is the Epilogue. Hope you've been enjoying the ride!

    Chapter 22: Judgment

?Where is she?? Caedus had been storming around the Valley of the Dark Lords for several hours, searching for Jaina.

?Does it matter?? Once again, Vergere was in the corner, glowing and probably laughing at Caedus. ?She does have her own goals, after all.?

?I thought we had goals together. Now that we?ve finally stopped hating each other, I was rather hoping we?d be able to work together to control the galaxy.?

?Liar,? Vergere responded calmly. ?You?ve always been aware of the Sith mantra of one to embody power and one to crave it.?

?Tell me where she is.? Caedus rounded on Vergere.

?You do recall that since I am dead already, you have no power over me??

?I?ll find some way to ruin your afterlife,? Caedus hissed. ?Just tell me where Jaina is.?

?Truthfully, I don?t know. From the lack of a shuttle, she clearly left the planet, but otherwise I have no idea; Jaina doesn?t especially trust me.?

?That really isn?t a bad idea,? Caedus muttered.

?Now you be careful,? Vergere admonished. ?Though I am dead and you are unable to hurt me, you are still alive and I am positive I can find ways to make your life miserable with very little effort.?

Caedus stormed out of the tomb, shaking his head. He was stuck on a backwater planet with a feathery little Force ghost with a malicious streak, and he had no idea where his apprentice was.

By now, Jaina was almost the Master. All she needed was a name.

?Sweetheart, what exactly did you find out? about Luke?? Han had been trying for days to find out what had happened to Luke, and Leia had been strangely quiet ever since her meeting with Chief of State Daala.

?It took quite some time to get Daala talking, but she claims it was Sith.? Leia?s voice was kept carefully neutral.

?Sith? I thought we were rid of them, after that battle?? Han didn?t have to mention which battle.

?No.? Leia?s voice dropped to a whisper. ?Daala claimed? Caedus is still alive.?

?No, he can?t be. There?s no way he can be alive after that battle. She?s crazy.?

?Do you think I want to believe this??

    ?Why are you??

Leia shook her head. ?I?m a Jedi, sweetheart. I can usually tell when people are lying to me, and Daala certainly wasn?t. She was scared to death about this whole thing, and it took quite a bit of coaxing for her to actually tell me what happened.?

?Can we, as representatives of the Jedi order, talk to her again??

?She doesn?t really like me much, but I?m sure she?ll be willing to.? Leia smiled grimly. ?In fact, she seemed downright desperate for someone to talk to who might believe her and would understand the problem that Sith could be.?

Before long, Han and Leia found themselves arguing with the same two officers that Jaina had dealt with.

?My apologies for not making an appointment. This is a rather pressing matter.? Leia was banking on her diplomatic skills to convince what were clearly not the brightest pair of guards.

?You aren?t going to try that Jedi mind trick that the Sith lady did, right?? one of them asked.

?Sith? Mind trick?? Han was instantly paying attention. ?What kind of weird people do you get through here??

?I dunno. I feel like I?ve seen her before but I don't know where from. Maybe a holo or something. Real pretty, brown hair, but really scary red eyes. She kinda looked like Jaina Solo.?

That was enough of a clue. Leia paused for a moment. ?We?re chasing her. She may be a serious threat to the Chief of State.?

Finally, they were able to get into Daala?s office. She was waiting for them again. ?This has to do with the Sith.?

?Yes. I had to tell Han what had happened; there?s no way you?re going to be able to fight them on your own. What may we do to help you?? Le

Great conclusion-- interesting that though they started out even, Jaina got more powerful; if Jaina disappears into the Remnant, doesn't that need a sequel? [face_thinking]

Caedus is dead and Lady Verdandi is ascendant. Now, whose fate will she decide next? I am a little taken aback at how easily she would contemplate killing her own parents.

Imperial Warlord is right. Verdandi is the Norse Goddess of Fate. Fitting name if you ask me.

At first I thought that Jaina and Caedus would team up to kill the Jedi, but I think I like this better. No extremely long, stretched out dueling with description of every movement, but just the emotions behind the duel.

I wonder if everyone will just let Lady Verdandi go, or if she'll have to fight her way out?

imperial_Warlord5: Hello! Nice to see you drop in! And yes, you are correct about the name.
Jade: You might just convince me. There certainly is fodder for more.
Cambius: Glad you like it! It took me a long time to find something appropriate.
Jaina: I would have done that, but then I realized that it would take too long. This felt more in their minds anyways.

Here is your final chapter! If you convince me well enough, I might do a sequel someday. Especially if you offer to do my homework.

    Chapter 23: The World

Surprisingly, there were very few questions when the Jedi sent to Korriban never returned. Everyone knew it had been a death mission, and none were expected to return. There were a few questions, though, when the office of the Chief of State declined to comment on the mission at all. Daala was surprisingly quiet about the whole thing, and she never exactly told anyone what had happened there. She also never mentioned what had happened to Darth Caedus.

Caedus had fallen out of the public eye completely. Most people figured he was just hiding, biding his time and planning to emerge and cause trouble sometime later. There were plenty of rumours drifting around that he was dead and someone else was now the Sith Lord. Of course, most of these were dismissed as idle rumors.

Daala herself spent a rather quiet and peaceful year trying not to think about the Sith. Ever since all of those Jedi had vanished (which had been quite the debacle) she had stayed out of their affairs; they had been very cold towards her after the death of their Grand Master and loss of quite a few Knights within a very short time frame.

It had actually been a bit more of a year when Daala entered her office and found Jaina Solo sitting in her chair.

?What do you want?? Daala hadn?t expected to see Jaina again. ?Jaina, you do owe me a good deal of explanation about whatever happened on Korriban.?

Lady Verdandi shrugged lazily. ?It?s Darth Verdandi now, and I would appreciate being addressed as ?My Lady.? Anyways, I?m here to carry out something that I haven?t had a chance to deal with quite yet.?

    ?And what would that be??

?Finish taking over the galaxy, of course.? The utter nonchalance in her voice was surprising. ?Have you a problem with that??

?Presently, I am in charge here,? Daala shot back.

?That can be remedied,? Verdandi responded with a bit of malice in her voice. ?Recall our previous agreement. You are to allow me to remain as an unofficial adviser, and presently my advice is that you?re turning the galaxy over to me.?

?How do you even plan to accomplish this?? Daala would have found this funny if it weren?t so serious.

?Simple. Recall those Jedi that were? misplaced. They are under my command as Sith acolytes, and are going to assist me.

?You would know quite well that there are factions in the Imperial Remnant who are still displeased with the accords made with the Rebels. They found themselves more than happy to assist me in this venture, and will lend all the assistance I request. Many of them strongly disapprove of your seeming defection, however should you choose to ally yourself with me, I will ensure that they leave you alone.?

?Listen, you. I?m not turning this galaxy over to a bunch of childish madmen because you want me to.? Daala had never hid her disdain for some of the Imperials, and still had a vendetta against many of them.

?Fine.? Verdandi looked rather delighted. ?You are to resign your position as Chief of State by sundown tomorrow. Feel free to develop some sort of condition that will remove you from the public eye, and have no more contact with any of the government. Or you can go along with me and have quite the distinguished career. Your choice.?

Daala thought for a long minute. ?Considering that there is no way for me to win, and you are so convinced that you are unable to lose??

?Not unable, no.? Verdandi still wore that puzzling, mysterious smile. ?If you do ever find a way to destroy me, there will be another. The cycle of the Sith will continue.?

    ?
