well worth the wait and I loved the scene between Anakin and Jaina, he's come so far and yet still has a lot to learn. I can't wait for the next update [face_dancing]

I"m going to put it out there- i think that may have been one of your best chapters to date. So much pure raw emotion radiating throughout the entire chapter. From desperation to hope, to sadness and humor- well done!

oh wow. this was worth going through the April fools joke and a long wait. I'm sorry for seeming so impatient [:D]

    That was beautiful!

I loved the update, so intense and full of powerful emotions and energy. To pick just one of the things out about this that I liked, I really enjoyed Kyp's observation about Artoo and the Skywalker family - it's so true!

I hope they find a cure before she dissolves on them!

This totally made my day... Thank you!!!

Very intense and well worth waiting for. Even poor Obi-Wan is struggling with his anger. I noticed that little mention of R2. I wonder if that was just a passing comment or is there more to it? Hmmm? [face_thinking]

Poor Jaina has been through the ringer and then some. I wonder, though, why everyone is so certain she's going to die, just because Palpatine said so. If she's the first human they've experimented on, then how can anyone know for certain what will happen?

I'm in favor of the loophole. :D

?Yeah,? Anakin said. He laughed faintly. ?But then we?re one hell of an unbelievable family.?
    [face_laugh] Now that is true!
But poor Jaina:_| She can't die!!!!
I liked Obi-Wan in this chapter...

[face_thinking] Hmmm I think the joke's on Palpatine, here. If Jaina dissolves into the Force then she'll be everywhere ... and everywhen. He'll have no place left to hide.

"If you strike her down she will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine."

And perhaps the Chosen One will learn the important lesson about life and death and letting go ....

Thank you so much for updating this lovely story. And what an amazing update it is too. I think you captured the mixture of emotions beautifully... Obi's cold anger, Jaina's despair and Anakin and Kyp's resolve. Really hope that you have something up your sleeve to avoid Jaina's seemingly impending fate.

Breathtaking chapter, Idri. :) That conversation between Kyp and Jaina was incredible - I see why it was so difficult to write. But definitely well worth the wait. Fantastic job.

Ooh, an excellent update, Idrelle! I was so sniffly when Kyp and Jaina talked, there. Anakin... that was a good way for him to let it out. I loved his talk with Jaina, there. :( Can't wait for more!

Jaina was heartbreaking - I'm so sad to see her spirit gone. I hope they find a cure soon. Anakin was great; I loved the scene with him and Jaina. Too bad she's too broken to try to form an even stronger bond with him. I'll even admit that the Kyp/Jaina stuff was good/sad ;)

    Wonderful chapter :)

You updated, Idri. Thank you for making my day better. Work was hell and I almost got into a fight with my boss. Well... I don't know what really to say but I really hope that the four of them figure something out and do it quickly. Palpatine seems to be on a path of invincibility - and that is a very, very bad path.

Can't wait until the whole gang is back together again.

?For what?? Anakin asked. ?You have nothing to be sorry for, Jaina. You did what you thought best. Who am I to judge you for your actions? You came here to save me. I was so close to falling to the dark side ? not everyone could have pulled me back from the brink.? He took her hands. ?But you and Kyp did just that, even without me noticing what you were doing. You let me figure things out on my own; you should not be sorry for withholding information. Even if I didn?t like it, I think now that it was probably for the best. I doubt that I would have believed you, or trusted you enough to let you do what you did, if you had told me the whole truth at the very beginning because, well??

?It?s a damn unbelievably story,? Jaina said softly. The corners of her lips turned upwards in a small smile.

?Yeah,? Anakin said. He laughed faintly. ?But then we?re one hell of an unbelievable family.?

yeah , they are an unbelievable family.[face_happy]

    Ooooo.... looky. An update!

    And isn?t it terrifying? :p

Idri... dear, dear Idri... you're freakin' breaking my heart with the Kyp/Jaina convo here.

    :( [:D]

*offers tea and hugs as condolence*

One of the reasons it was so difficult to write. The beginning of the chapter was the worse, mostly because for most of April I couldn?t handle it because of my own mood. One of my friends had to reason with me. Luckily for you guys, he?s pretty good at doing that. :p

    So accepting, mature and resigned.

Which is honestly the only way I can see them after something like this. They?ve? well, neither character has exactly been through something quite like this before, all things considered. Even the strongest lose their hope. They?re not superheroes. I think know that Jaina?s out, she can stop ?pretending? to be strong and that she was pretty darn close to being broken? or is broken? is now showing through.

Don't give up Jaina! You've still got to be the strange purply eyed woman in the future.

    [face_laugh]

    *giggle*

    [face_bats_eyes]

Loved Obi here. Especially the "I'm calm because I'm angry" bit. So true. The angrier Obi gets the more calm, the more icy he gets. It's enough to give you the willies.

    *nods*

That?s one aspect I?ve always seen in Obi-Wan. He doesn?t explode the way Anakin does, and frankly the calm, cold anger is a hell of a lot scarier than yelling.

And I'm in major love with Anakin here. *wipes tear* He's come so darn far. Yeah he's hurt, angry and confused. Yeah, he loses his cool. But he gets himself together and re-focuses on what's important.

Exactly! He still has a long way to go, but he?s a very different person from who he was at the beginning of this story. The key here is that he has an ability to re-focus.

Jaina. I loved the scene between Anakin and Jaina at the end. I could just see them sitting there together. Very powerful.

Thank you. That kind of imagery is something that I aim for, and I?m glad that I?ve seemed to be able to accomplish it in that chapter. [:D]

    Jaina_Solo_Goddess

WOW! I can certainly see why that post was so difficult to write. So much emotion packed into it.

Yes. The non-action moments are certainly difficult to write. I always thought they were easier? when I was fifteen and still ignorant. :p I had to think a lot about the characters and where they were individually after all the events that lead up to this chapter. Jaina was exceptionally difficult to write.

Were those despairing vibes from Jaina perhaps influenced by LOTR? This seems very much like Frodo and Sam's exchange (which I love , by the way). I can see the similarities between the two circumstances!

Wow, I totally didn?t think of it that way at all! Re-reading it, I can see the comparisons between the two scenes; I don?t understand how I didn?t before, considering I?m a huge LotR junkie (even more than I am a Star Wars fan, actually)! It must have been my subconcious speaking. ;)

It better mean that hope is coming soon though. Please?

We?ll see. :) We?re in a pretty dark spot right now, aren?t we? But there?s always a light at the end of the tunnel for those who look hard enough.

I don't know how you can stand writing such depressing, although extremely realistic, material. I can barely handle reading it.

Let?s say I barely manage it through much hair-pulling and nail biting? and channeling of my own emotions thanks to a rather turbulent and emotionally chaotic two months in March and April. It?s not a fun experience at all, but I?m trying to be as truthful to the characters as possible. I wouldn?t feel right about it if I didn?t.

So, on the ship, we have three extremely angry people and one extremely despairing person who's going to die soon and leave everyone else (especially Anakin, who's now g

    [blockquote][b]CHAPTER LIV
    Mon Calamari[/b][/blockquote]

Mon Calamari was so withdrawn from the chaos that engulfed the core systems that its tranquil atmosphere offered Padmé some form of comfort, even if there was only the illusion of peace here. Despite knowing that no place was safe, Mon Calamari?s calm beauty provided a way to escape from the distressing horrors of her thoughts. Before, only Naboo had been able to achieve that kind of effect and as she would not see her homeworld for as long as this battle lasted, Padmé welcomed it with all her heart.

Today she and Scout had taken Luke and Leia and explored the lower levels of Coral City. In the dimly lit, rounded rooms available as common spaces for the general public as readily as parks were on Naboo, the fresh scent of the ocean and the musical echoes of falling water was a pleasure to the senses. The walls and ceilings were shimmering with the golden light reflected by the waves lapping in the pools present in every room. Small, arched bridges and stepping stones led across the pools, connecting the series of rooms together. Instead of everything being uniformly white, the turquoises and the greens of the sea were present in the tiles on the floor. With such an explosion of visuals, sounds and scents, the twins were particularly interested, taking everything in with wide eyes and giggles, usually descending into long strains of babbling. Padmé could swear that though the babbling was indiscernible to hers and Scout?s ears, Luke and Leia knew exactly what they were saying to each other.

?Are you and the little ones enjoying yourselves, Senator?? a strong Mon Calamarian voice asked, interrupting Padmé?s reverie.

Padmé looked down to the foot of the bridge she was currently standing on, overlooking the lapping waves of the pool below. Balancing Leia carefully in her arms, she walked down the bridge to stand beside the Mon Calamarian who had addressed her.

?Please don?t call me that, Ackbar,? she said gracefully. She smiled tightly at the mention of her previous title. ?I?m not a Senator anymore.?

?Are you not?? Ackbar replied. ?You may not be a friend of the Empire, my dear, but you are a friend of the Galaxy. Some of us know you and what you stand for. Once a Senator, always a Senator. Your work continues on and you deserve every respect the title bestows.?

Padmé had met Ackbar within hours of the [i]Tantive IV[/i]?s arrival at Mon Calamari. They had arrived has discreetly as possible, yet even so a ship carrying three known fugitives and several Jedi younglings and Padawans was noticed by those whose eyes were keenly peeled. Even so, the Mon Cals and the Quarren held no reservations about their arrival here. The Empire was stretching its arm towards every corner of the Galaxy; it was only a matter of time before it reached Mon Calamari, too. The planet?s people were not going to give in without a fight as Palpatine?s regime opposed everything they believed in. In their eyes, these fugitives from the Empire stood out like a beacon against the Empire?s darkness. Mon Calamari could not be their refuge for long, but while they were here, they were offered a hospitality that gave the weary travellers a moment of rest.

Ackbar and Padmé had become fast friends during her time spent in Coral City. He was the leader of the Calamarian Council and had many duties to attend to, but when he did have time to spare, he sought her out. Padmé enjoyed his enlightened conversations. She quickly realized that Ackbar had one of the most tactically gifted minds; these people were lucky to have him as a leader. Should the Empire arrive, Ackbar would provide the best counter-defence they could possibly ask for.

?Even so,? Padmé said, ?there is no need to be formal between friends, Ackbar.?

    ?Very well, Padmé.?

Leia giggled and babbled something, her clear infant voice carrying across the cavernous chambers to Luke and Scout.

=D= Bravo! You brought out everyone's emotions and frustration so well. I still can't help but think the Jaina is the key to everything. Somehow, I don't think Delik-66 will ultimately affect Jaina as everyone supposes. Mysterious the ways of the Force are. *ahem* How did Yoda get in my brain? ;) :D

I really liked the scene with Padme and Ackbar... lots of interesting insights about the nature of people and the universe in that one.

Yoda! I can't believe I didn't see that earlier - of COURSE he would be one of the only other beings to travel through time! I wonder who he was traveling with.. and speaking of time travelers, I'm still trying to figure out Augustine's story.. wait, we didn't figure that out yet, did we? I don't think we know anything about him beyond the general mystery of his appearance and time traveling powers, but let me know if I'm being dumb.

Too bad Cilghal isn't around to help Jaina, I wonder if she's alive yet...

Thank you for the wonderful post!
