Jedi can and do go Darkside all on their own.

Why dose Jacen have to be saddled with Lumyia, if he is suppose to be the antagonist of the story he's turning out to be more punk than villain. Besideds minor acts of terror(not villany Terror! he's a low rent terrorist now!) against the odd inoccent bystander and underling he rearly dose anything on his own....correctly anyway.

Did Magneto need a Mentor? Did Doctor Doom? Did Kyle Katarn(On his brief trip to the darkside)? Baron Zemo? Wilson (Deathstroke) slade?

Im pretty sure Brakiss didnt have a mentor either.

Loseing hero status is bad enough...but losing it to be a sidekick! to a sith as weak as Lumyia! Dont Solo's suppose to have pride or something?

Sure, anyone can go dark, but to become Sith you require a current master to train you and knight you a Sith. That's why Lumiya is needed: so Jacen can distinguish himself from any other fallen Jedi by having the official "Dark Lord of the Sith" title.

Because she's a cool character, gives continuity to the series, and provides a way for Jacen to actually become Sith rather than Sith-wannabe. Oh, and the big difference between the examples you cite and Jacen is that they were usually twisted by their circumstances from a very early age; while Jacen's character was warped (see Charles' excellent analysis), it's necessary for people to push him down the path of the Dark Side. Ironically, he's easier acted upon than being the actor.

Yeah...Jacen was too self-righteous to do it on his own. That may seem like a contradiction, but let's look at it: he's too sure of his own beliefs to turn Sith, unless someone's there to convince him that he wants to be Sith, after all.

Magneto is plenty self-righteious. And as for being warped by the Holocaust at an early age it was only one of the deciding factors that led Lenshierr to the Magneto Conclsion.

As for the sith, I find random Dark Jedi Far stronger than many 'sith', Kar Vastor for insntace make many sith looklike universal pansys. For all their sheaming and plotting they dont do all that much. Sith spirits snub Krayt and he is turning out to be a damn good villain.

Its Attitude, Attitude that makes a villain!

Look at the examples I put down! where would you place Lumyia and Jacen. Right now they would rate just below Emplate for me.

Looka at Deathstroke in Villians united! did he call his 'order' the injustice gang? or the secret sociaty? A great villain dosent need to connect with the loser orders of the past! heis bad@--ed all on his own!

dose the universe need another emo-villian?

Not to be pedantic or anything, but both the Star Wars examples you gave had mentors - Brakiss had Kueller and the inquisitors and Kyle had whatever Darkside spirits there were on Dromund Kaas.

But otherwise yeah, what the others said is right.

I think its merely a way to justify Jacen Solo taking the final step to becoming a villain.

You're missing the point that others have tried to make already. Its not about just another villian being created, its about the Sith returning. If it was just about Jacen taking on the villian role, then Lumiya wouldn't really need to be there, but its not. The Sith are making a comeback with Skywalker's grandson spearheading the movement.

Kar Vastor couldn't even handle one Jedi Master. The Sith schemed, and ultimately nearly wiped out the Jedi. I think the Sith rank a tad higher on the scale of things than Vastor, frankly.

Jacen's too much of a punk to do anything on his own, so he needs Lumiya.

You take Lumiya out and you have only this:

Jacen eventually falls to the Darkside through his own arrogance and twisted logic. The Jedi deal with him. The end.

Lumiya is engineering an intergalactic war, and Allston finally shows us an amazing glimpse at just how deep her touch runs in Exile. Even while seriously injured and recovering! All I can say is she must never sleep!

If Lumiya was telling the truth about there being other Sith, I wanna know what they've been doing, because it seems they've been lazing around on their rumps while my favorite Dark Lady has been p0wning the universe.

Having reread Shatterpoint recently, I don't think that the problem is that Vastor is so powerful, its that he's so savage. And as said often in that novel, the rules are different on that planet (something Kul), so that just makes him more powerful. Off that planet, he's not that important probably.

Anyway, I don't mind Lumiya coming back too much. Having Aurra Sing pop back up after more than half a century doing the same thing she did in the prequel era with basically no change- now that's annoying. Lumiya's been something of a loose thread for years, especialy with her connection to Luke. And Jacen, despite how... somewhat amoral he was, as we saw in the Dark Nest Trilogy and then Betrayal (with how he didn't mind random people dying too much), he was still sorta set in the Jedi social mindset of mostly following the rules of society. He still needed someone to prod him into being a Sith. Then Lumiya comes along with that Darth Vectivus (sp?) story of a non-evil Sith, despite how all the other Sith Lords, especially those with good intentions like Ulic, or Anakin Skywalker originally, ended up evil.

Besides, despite Jacen's five year journey, I doubt he dug up any Sith artifacts during that time, as though Sith are Dark Siders, Jedi and Sith still use the Force in same basic basic materialistic, conventional (as we see it) way, wheras Jacen wasnted something more non-traditional, like the Dathormir witches, Adepts, the Monks, etc.

And the current crisis also pushed Jacen into wanting to be a Sith (not that he needed that big of a push), and they needed someone to engineer that crisis, someone to conveniently assassinate anybody trying to broker peace, and Jacen on his own wouldn't do that, even up to Tempest, he's still mainly reacting (aggressively).

Or Lumiya has given her GAG codes to the rest of the Sith and is allowing their operatives to handle some of the legwork. It's not required, but it does keep Lumiya from having to do a ton of work, if what she says about more Sith is true.

    Haha:

Whether it's Zayne turning into the Exile or Lumiya/Mara turning into Darth Krayt, it seems a sex change lies in the future of Star Wars :p

And as far as Ben goes, for all we know he'll escape the GFFA, crashland on Earth around the 70's on an island in the mid pacific and become the leader of a people who constantly harass crash survivors on 2004....

Actually, for a first time Sabra, on retrospect I agree with you.

What we are severely lacking in Star Wars is some original and motivated villains.

General Grevious was the last created and that was in Insider!

And there's always the possibility that after Luke's death, Mara drowns her sorrows in testosterone supplements.

because Jacen has his tragic flaws, but ultimately, as egotistical and self-righteous as he was, I think there was still enough conscience in him to not go dark solo; Lumiya stroked the ego and provided him with comfort in turning from Luke's teachings; she simply ripped away the foundation from a building already leaning over a cliff

plus, we have already seen that by her existence being revealed, Lumiya serves as a convenient scapegoat to distract blame away from Jacen; he can have her do his "dirty work" as Vader did for Palpatine, allowing Jacen to SEEMINGLY keep his hands bloodfree

Lumiya is less sidekick and more Iago. She's just whispering the things he needs to hear to finish leading him down a dark path that started a long time ago, and it's clear that it's not a clear-cut master/apprentice relationship because she is obviously a lot less powerful than he is.

She's just a signpost on his journey, and she knows it, which is why her relationship with him is fairly interesting. She's juggling prodding him into being the power she wants him to be with the knowledge that he doesn't need her and can off her whenever he feels like it.
