Awesome article! Really liked the stuff about N-K Necrosis, the MagnaGuards, and the Soulless One, plus the secret storehouses on Utapau. What can I say, I love that place. :)

Great work, Abel! Still haven't read "Unknown Soldier" but "Lord of War" was top-notch! Can't wait to see what's next...

    >>>What about that Atha Prime double-decker?<<<

    A double-decker MoffMoffship... ;)

    >>>It was indeed intended to be Utapau. There's a couple things in favor of that, mainly that Grievous body and the ship were both initially described as being there in the article in the Necrosis section, and the storehouse is mentioned as being Utapau twice there.

So Utapau's got dibs in terms of earliest reference and frequency. And, for what it's worth, my intention.<<<

You could have sneaked a Space Station Scardia reference in there too, since its another big storehouse... [face_mischief]

    >>>Actually it's a reference to Ep. III Obi-Wan's other OLD cyborg enemy. <<<

    Lobot! [face_batting]

questions on the HS article part for Abel:

    1) what was the fate of the Necrosis Grievous droid (from Galaxies)? killes by who? when? ever?

    2) this droid helping the Iron Knights in the NJO.. was it just a droid or did it get a living crystal implanted as well?

    3) the droid IG72 got.. what happened to it? might IG88's spirit still live inside this body then?

    4) if Obi Wan was on Narshadda with baby Luke, did he meet Tholme and Trsaa there? they hid there through episode 3 until shortly after the movie finished! why didn´t they meet each other, or.. did they?

    5) Thrawn collecting grievous mask was cool! though.. what would a chiss look like, wearing that mask? *wonders* glowing red eyes.. hehe

Well, as per KotOR II, Nar Shaddaa is a cracking place to hide, especially for a Jedi - with all that swirling life current, it's easy to blend in and avoid detection, even from fellow Jedi.

    1) Destroyed by a group of "motley spacers" according to the article.

    3) IG-72 self-destructs in Tatooine Manhunt, set shortly after the Battle of Yavin.

I was back and forth with this until the last minute. Ultimately, I didn't want Ronderu to be extraordinary solely for being a female, but exceptional even in a society that has women warriors.

    Enter great-grandma Grievous. :)

    She's actually menopausal.

    No, Ronderu isn't infertile.

It's cool. I like free milk. Especially with fruit loops.

My thinking was that clues were found on the Soulless One which were used to figure out where Obi-Wan went. If that's the case, Vader probably wasn't the cyborg who found the ship since he would've found Ben long before A New Hope.

Necrosis ended up being a lot more work than I imagined it would be, especially with all that loot he drops in the game. I was happy to tie in Bane's Heart with his double-bladed lightsaber. I would've also liked to have covered the Grievance Striker, but like the Invisible Hand, there just wasn't enough time.

For whatever reason, I've become attached to IG-72. Never understood why he's gone ignored for so long. Maybe because he kicked the bucket in Tatooine Manhunt.

I think the writers of most of those resurrection stories made a strong and clear effort to present themselves as plausible.

As for Thrawn/Grievous... when I started writing the looting scene as a reference to the "loot" Necrosis drops after you defeat him in Galaxies, I thought, "Wait, that's technically Grievous' mask on Necrosis..."

As usual, I try to drop just enough hints to let the pundits know, yes, this is the reference you're looking for. ;)

You don't know the power of the Grand Moff Grand Moff!

There was a lot to cover and set up in the Necrosis section, and I ended up having to backaway from too many details before it turned into another article unto itself.

Yeah, I know that story. :)

    Take care,
    Abel

Great article, Abel! Keep up the good work. Now that Necrosis has been explained, we just need someone to retcon why a character named Durge (albeit wearing different armor) appears in SWG...

Just a question here, Abel... From the article:
    Known as the
Kummar, or the Incubus, knowledge of her origin and relationship to Grievous largely rests on speculation.

Wouldn't Succubus be more gender-appropriate for her? o_O

    >>>You don't know the power of the Grand Moff Grand Moff! <<<

    He's winning...

(Or at least TalonCard's open suggestion for some Moff Panaka art in another thread is... ;) )

    "Creatively.

The idea that Yam'rii were technologically savvy despite their honkin digitless arms was first suggested by Kitik Keed'kak Decipher card. I know there's a practical aspect to consider when taking into account alien physiology, but I think it's pretty cool when we have to use our imaginations to figure out just how such a thing might be possible. That elasticity of imagination is to me one of the greatest values of science fiction. "

    So...that's a plot hole, isn't it? ;)

Hits newsstands in about a week for non-subscribers. Definitely pick up a copy and let us know what you think! We appreciate the support. :)

Thanks SBD! You started this thread; looking forward to what you think about Unknown Soldier!

Dozens. The poor guys are like eggs. I thought about writing a "Nemos whose skulls have been crushed" list as a companion to the Jedi one, but could make the deadline. ;)

There's a link to it in the original Grievous Vs. Thrawn blog.

Zannah is such an interesting character. I really want to see her in action as a full fledged Sith.

An interesting LFL edit: I originally called Zannah a "Dark Lady of the Sith," and this was changed to simply "Sith Lord."

    Take care,
    Abel

I didn't realize Hyperspace was going to be using some of my art for the online feature so I decided to pull the images from my site for the time being. They'll be back up soon though. I'll give everyone a heads up on the boards as soon as I repost them.

I also wanted to chime in and say that the Necrosis story was unexpectedly deep and rather engrossing as opposed to a "just explain away a Grievous model droid quickly and logicly". It would make a facinating short story from Necrosis's POV.

    >> But geez...Old Wounds and fan artwork? Whoo boy. That's more then even I expected. I wouldn't be surprised to see all three Maul resurrection stories tied together someday.<<

Wouldn't be too hard- the dark side acolytes from Resurrection needed genetic material to clone Maul, so perhaps they obtained it from whomever was preserving Maul's brain from that other Tales story.

The Old Wounds Maul could either be an early clone with false memories (explaining the uber-horns) OR the actual Maul as it implies, and it was from that cyborg corpse that the brain and genetic material was harvested from.

Abel: I've heard there's a reference to "the Unlimited Projection core ship" on Utapau...

Does this mean that the Utapau command ship is called the Unlimited Projection...?

And if so, is she the same core ship we briefly see Grievous using in Dreadnaughts of Rendili?

And, randomly, on the subject of double-decked Star Destroyers - will we ever see more of Atha Prime (I hear he got a nod in a line in FactFiles)...?

And does the fact that his Q-Canon visual "look" is basically that of an Imperial Sentinel mean that Atha Prime a Force-user hiding behind his mind-linked clone "son"...

    ... Blackhole? o_O

    Hehe... (Look at Resurrection Stories)

I liked the idea/theory so much I wrote an entire section in wiki, although the speculation part was removed later on.

    Facts are facts.

Republic recruitment is specified in the New Essential Chronology, though massive recruitment is arguably a new idea.

As for vulture droids and tri-fighters counting as "battle droids," I think that's more than fair. Not only are they unquestionably war droids of a kind in design and function, but Truce of Bakura already set a precedent of automaton-esque starfighters being called battle droids.

So, hopefully just bringing together these facts in one place and expanding the concept of what those quintillions of battle droids encompassed makes the odds between the Republic and Confederacy a bit easier to swallow.

    Thanks razzy!

Well, let's just say they're clear acknowledgments if you know your facts... and it would be a recognizable faux pas to ignore the implications. ;)

    It is.

    That's what I said. :)
