So, the Lutheran church is having a Halloween party. I plan to go in costume.

    To church.

    Because I can.
Nothing to do with the fact that my costume is actually more appropriate for church than my regular clothes.

I had this grand scheme of wearing black lipstick and my fancy-schmancy witch's hat to work today, but had to abandon it in the hectic whirl of Findsboy school prep and transportation. At least I'm wearing all black, along with my slightly Gothy black lace-up high-heel boots.

.....and my crappy week keeps getting crappier. Yesterday morning, I couldn't find my cell phone. It's not a huge deal to me, because I really have it just for emergencies, but it was frustrating, especially since I was already in a bad mood because of the van driver's continued surliness. So last night, I got a call from the police. One of the kids who rides the van with me and the Youngling had stolen it. I got the phone back, but he had gotten rid of the case and reset it so I couldn't even get in. I had to do a hard reset on it, which wasn't easy. The kid used a huge chunk of my data, not that I use it, but stil....

I'd say things couldn't get worse, but DRL would delight in proving me wrong.

I was going to dress up for work tomorrow, but then I realized I don't have a costume, and I'm not sure I can salvage anything from my wardrobe...

And another like of sympathy. Raissa Baiard, this week has really been the pits for you (and the Youngling too, no doubt)! I sure hope the next one will be better. [:D]

Sorry about your crappy week Raissa Baiard . [:D] If the kid went over on your data, or even if he didn't, you could probably take the police report to the phone company and they shouldn't charge you/give you back your data.

Apparently it's really hard to find Halloween candy that doesn't contain nuts or not processed in a facility that uses nuts. :( I wanted to get something good for any kids with allergies but had to settle with tootsie rolls and blow pops, which are fine but I figure that's what other people find too. We also got some pumpkin beer and hard cider for the adults that come by with their kids. :)

JL, that had me laughing hysterically.

And, yeah, it's really hard to find nut-free candy. I decided to go get candy even though I really didn't want to. I'm just going to put one box in a bowl out at a time and periodically fill it up. That way, if I do get that one horrible kid, s/he will only get like 50 bars, instead of 200.

And apparently the movie night is a-go for my place tomorrow, but only one person has 100% confirmed. I ended up going to my mother's anyways and stealing Rocky Horror Picture Show and some other cult classics, if people do decide to come (I have a horrible record with people not showing up for parties). However, the funny part was, my step-father was home when I went there, but asleep in the living room after his night-shift, so I felt like a master ninja stealing all these DVDs. I gotta phone my mom and tell her she was robbed.

As someone who is allergic to nuts, there are a couple of options. In Canada, the "favourites " are safe and Maynard's mixes should also be safe. Bonus is that the Maynard's are gluten free too.

From the last time I was in the US, certain Hershey's mixes are safe as well as Smarties and Dum Dums.

    In the words of Strutters:
"Tisk, tisk, tisk. Tacky, tacky, tacky!"

Like, give me a functional family, and I'll love holidays. Until then, I can stomach New Year and, to a certain extent, Easter, but the rest...LOLNOPE.

However, I saw this person today.

Thanks for all the sympathy likes, and the evil eye amulet Chyntuck :). Fortunately, the phone was a TracPhone with way more minutes and data than I could conceivably use in a year. I'm more irritated than inconvenienced by what he used up.

I decide not to press charges. I don't know if I did the right thing by not doing it. I think I was so stunned last night that I just said "no, I just want my phone back." Now I go back and forth between thinking I should have pressed charges because he should be accountable for his actions and thinking this kid's life is screwed up enough without getting a juvenile record over a cell phone. (He lives with his 85 year old great-grandmother who has cancer). I am glad that he will no longer be riding the van with us.

I've decided I don't want to be an adult anymore , since it means having to make decisions like "Do I press charges against the kid with a tragic backstory who stole my cell phone?" If anyone needs me, I'll be hiding in the closet, eating all the Halloween candy....

Well, I bought my Halloween "candy" for tomorrow night: 160 coupons for a free kid's meal at a local family restaurant chain, which should hopefully be enough to last the full two hours with good weather. Total cost: $32. I also got 16 raffle tickets (one for each coupon book) for a 32-inch TV.

Given that the coupons explicitly state "children 10 years and under only", I wonder how many teenagers will cuss at me and/or flip me off tomorrow evening. Every year, I get about a dozen or so teenagers who don't even attempt a costume. I quit trick-or-treating myself when I was 14 years old. (I was going to quit after age 13, but after 9/11, I decided to do it one more year as an FDNY firefighter.)

I agree with Goodwood on that. It may have made things much worse if you had.

And I found out today that I was apparently a better owner to the cat of the neighbor across the street (not the one that hit my car, the other house) than they were... A day ago, their cat was hit and killed by a car on the road. Deciding that it was up to them, we left the cat where it was, visible to everyone. No one came for the poor thing. So today, my mom and I took it, dug a little hole in our yard, and buried it. The weird part of it is that we had constantly chased that cat out of our yard because it kept hunting the wild doves that we feed. I guess we just have a soft spot for animals that need love, even when they're gone.

Raissa, I think you did the right thing. I'm glad it didn't really hurt you any as far as minutes and data.

whiskers- :( How sad. But how nice of you guys to take care of him.

Hershey's was the first thing I thought of, but the bags said they were made in a facility that uses nuts. :( I strangely couldn't find any Smarties except in a big mix of other stuff I didn't want to get.

I guess it depends on how old the kid is. Children don't develop that part of the brain that tells them, "This is not a good idea" until they are in their early 20s. When they are preteens or young teens they are like short crazy people. When they are toddlers they are like short, drunk, crazy people. I remember my toddler son licking the screen door (which I put in a fanfic, of course). Who does that but drunks or kids?

If this kid is living with his ailing GREAT-grandmother that probably means the other two generations are not capable of raising him. I think you did the right thing since you got your phone back. I would be pissed at the kid, but I would probably not press charges just so I wouldn't upset his dying great-grandmother. :(

Yeah. That's always a tough call Raissa. I have a cousin who could have used a swift kick in the pants before he got to where he is (he did delinquent things, but no one ever pressed charges till he got in deep problems), but at the same time, if that is his living situation, you probably did the right thing by not adding to the great-grandmother's stress. Either way, no one wins.

And that is just horrible whiskers.

I quit trick or treating at 13. After that I did trick or eat, which is a food drive here on halloween. We all still dressed up for it, and people were often really nice and gave us candy along with canned goods. My housemates are going again this year! I may go as well if this party thing goes south.

And in semi-funny news, I dragged my mother to a hipster cafe for dinner. Food was good. She was odded out by the music, but left a really nice tip because the guy who owned the place just sat down and talked with us for like 20 minutes. Natasi Daala goes to hipster cafe, now there's a crackfic for someone to write (for those that don't know, my mother looks and acts like Daala is described).
