What caused Anakin to *stop* burning?

    Either:

    1. He peed on himself

    or

    2. Massive amounts of ash and dirt smothered the flames.

    I like #1 better.

"how come we didn't see the droids debriding all of the necrotic and potentially-necrotic flesh?"

Actually they did, but Anakin punch one of them out because of the pain (with his artificial arm, of course). [face_plain]

Midichlorians are flammable, see. Since most of his midichlorians were cut
off of him and burned out of him, the fire just kind of petered out.
That's why he never reaches his full potential.
    That Kenobi ate my baby.

If you were burning would it be acceptable and politically correct to ask your former master who has the higher grond to pee on you? That is the Question.

And the answer is, when you are burning like that, it's acceptable to ask
anyone to pee on you, according to Hoyle.

Padme peeing on him would of not been as effective as Obi because she couldnt aim as well and was uncinsious but geez the ratings would of been through the roof for that.

True, and Padme's bladder was smaller due to her pregnancy. Good call.

Anakin still had some clothes on(notice he wasnt nakeed)so if the fire was suppose to stop going out because it didnt have anything else to burn that cant be true. He still had more clothes plus his body should have burned. Lava heat is 1000x more hot than regular fire. Even if you are only a few feet away from it it can still be hotter than normal fire. And if Anakin sets on fire just for being 5ft away from the lava he and Obi-wan should have burst into flames when they were closer to it than Anakin when he combusted. Both of them were also breathing in those fumes so Anakin breathing it in doesnt explain his lung problem. GL once said that Anakin fell into a lava pit, he should have left it like that it explains why he needs that suit, but just being close to the lava and bursting into flames doesnt explain his lung injury. Also wasnt Vader paralyzed after he killed the emperor? Why is he paralyzed if he never suffered a fall?

This is a PG-13 film, not an R-rated one. That's why Anakin still has some of his clothing in tact. As to the lungs, they were damaged by the intense heat and smoke that got inhaled. This is scientifically proven and thus is why he has trouble breathing on his own. As to the broken neck, that probably occured during the reconstruction period. We didn't see everything.

pg-13 film or not Anakin still had clothes to burn so the fire shouldnt have gone out. I still have a little problem with his lungs cause he and obiwan were around the lava alot longer and closer than Anakin when he got maimed. Good gracious you think the droids broke his neck? I still like the falling into lava it could have been done just as easily and explained all of his injuries. Plus it would have been real cool to see. And as for the science coming in, I dont think it works with GL. He doesnt seem to be to up on reality. In ESB when Han and Leia leave the ship and explore that asteriod monster they have masks on, yet every human who lands on the 100% lava planet can miracuously breathe oxygen? And just watching that video of Anakin burn makes me cringe, I know he screwed up bad, but couldnt Obi wan put him out of his misery.

    "Flesh isn't flamable"

Just about anything's flamamble if you get it hot enough. The skin won't burn easily because of all the moisture (blood, etc.) underneath it. This has to be heated up to the point where it cannot hold anymore heat. Since lava can melt rocks, I'd say it's sufficient to catch skin on fire.

"Some metals, like magnesium, do combust...at really high temperatures."

And throwing water on a magnesium fire makes it worse.

"Flesh doesn't burn that easy, cremating temperature are extremely high."

This is for the bones - not the skin.

"Lava yes, but a person can stand within 5 feet of Lava and the temperature can be hundreds of degrees cooler than the lava itself.."

At this distance, the hairs on your body start to burn, and a cotton shirt will be baked brown. The rubber soles of a sneaker will begin to melt as well.

I'm surprised everyone has missed the most obvious answer, which suprisingly is related to a little-known phenomena that occurs in our own galaxy: Spontaneous Decombustion. ;)

really people its simple physics a human is basically made of 90% of water and your skin is like paper so when his skin was burned off his own body water stopped the fire and a fire needs somthing to burn on witch was his clothes, withc were mostly gone by the time his skin was burned off.

I'd say this is the more likely and scientific answer. Fire needs oxygen to burn and in the seering heat and toxic atmosphere by the side of that lava river i would imagine the oxygen level was very low indeed.
Plus a body would'nt burn up completely unless constantly kept under the heat (like if anakin was lying on a flaming BBQ that was lit).

You've seen images of people pulled from very hot burning buildings or bomb blasts. Their clothes are burnt and they are too, but their body is'nt on fire (so to speak) as their flamable clothing has burnt away, and skin is not flamable, Anakin was simply seered, maybe to the bone, but a bosy would have to be burnt intensly for a long time for him to burn up completely. IMO

The fire stops burning Anakin for one reason and one reason only.
