Billing doesn't affect the fact that Ford is getting paid more than the rest of the cast put together...[face_whistling]

No wonder they are offing him in the First Movie. Who do think is getting paid the second most? I say Lupita or Serkis.

The final casting billing is already pretty much out there, and its this: John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. They will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

The old cast is separated from the new, wich makes alot of sense (Ford also has higher billing than Mark).
Max von Sydow is included in the same way as Alex Guinnes in "A New Hope", both are/we're veteran actors. Even though Adam Driver is in front of Oscar Isaac (being the third lead hero), it is obvious though that Poe Dameron is more of a supporting charachter in this movie.
I guess alot of people can't wrap their head around Boyega being in front of Ridley. Finn is more prominent throughout the story, and is involved in every major act/action sequence, more so than Rey.

What I don't get is Gleeson's low billing. He should be billed before Clarke and Andersen IMO.

Indeed it only works if they are more relevant in the movie then he is. Otherwise based on resume he definitely shouldnt be lower than them. So maybe MSW has some gaps, I dont see how Pip for instance getting killed in the first fight would lead to a higher billing then Gleeson. Sydow is at the bottom and he gets cut down supposedly in the same fight.

Yeah it looks like Gleeson got ****ed. But we didn't know about Greg Grunberg's role, who's supposedly great in the movie according to J.J. He's not even credited yet, same as actor Ken Leung.
Also, didn't Pip say that he worked with John AND Daisy? Why hire an actor who's famous for his parkour skills, and off him like just another stormtrooper in the beginning of the movie. Crystal Clarke could be Leia's emissary (isn't she a bit young for that), but she get's killed pretty quickly too .
I think both of them are part of the Resistance, and become friends with Finn and Rey. They are also around the same age.

Alec Guinnes was also at the bottom in "A New Hope", and got mentioned in the same way as von Sydow with "and".

I don't know. I haven't seen a play since I was in Jr. High and went on a field trip to see Hamlet. Sounds right, though.

Just saying: Unless it's not a joke of a part. Perhaps J.J. leaves Mark's name off until the end credits to surprise the general public. Just as Nicolas Lea asked Chris Carter to do with the X-Files episode S.R. 819. Lea didn't want people knowing Krycek would be in that episode to make the end reveal work and it sure did.

I think it will mirror the order in the cast announcement.

    Why would it change?

Star Wars films traditionally have the actors' credits all at the end of the film. Perhaps Disney will want things done differently.

I think that the general public is going to be surprised that Luke is pretty much NOT in this film. I think that's especially true since it was announced long, long ago that all three if them were reprising their roles in the new film.

I think they are joint leads and John's name is alphabetically, giving him top billing. 'with Harrison Ford as Han Solo' is most likely for Ford's billing.

Possibly or John can just simply be the main lead. I think this is the more likely scenario. His face was the first thing you saw when we were introduced to the new trilogy. I think that's pretty significant. IMO, he is the new Luke of this franchise.

But Luke is NOT pretty much NOT in the film. He's in it. Audiences will see him at the end, and probably during a mid-film flashback. And before they see him, he will allegedly be talked about. A lot.

    He
Luke will be there at the end only for a lightsaber hand-off. That's it. He will likely be seen in the flashback for a couple of minutes. I would say that means Luke is pretty much not in the film. I'm pretty sure that most people who don't hang out on the boards are expecting to see Luke in action and for more than about three or four minutes in a movie that will be about 120 minutes long.

What does "pretty much not in the film" mean? You are either in the film, or not. And Luke is. And even when he's not physically there, characters will often be talking about him, if the rumors are correct.

Repeating that "Luke is pretty much not in the film" will not make it true.

Luke is going to be physically in the film for an extremely short amount of time. I do believe that most people who are unaware of that fact will be unpleasantly surprised by that fact and disappointed. He's only going to be seen for several minutes, and he really doesn't "do" anything in this film. He doesn't play an active role in it. That's not what most people who go into TFA will be expecting. You can call it whatever you want, but to me, when a character is only in the film for a few minutes, he's "pretty much" not in the film.
