    >>>I stand corrected. Controversial retcon =/= fanon. It'd been a while since I read the entry.<<<

Galaxy of Fear: Spore also suggested that Jerec was not baseline human, but it didn't identify his species specificially (which, I think, was partially what made Abel retcon him to be Miraluka, since it fit quite well.)

Yes, they did call him lumpy when he was younger in the Holiday Special for one thing.
Waroo is supposed to show how he is now an adult.
And as for familar names, there seems no hard-and-fast rule. Chewie just seems easier to put to Chewbacca than Bacca

Q'anilia (or is it spelled Q'Anilia?) is another Miraluka with only one name. It is possible, though, that different Miraluka planets (Alpheridies, Katarr, whatever) had different naming conventions.

And remember, separate planets have their own individual subcultures and whatnot. At least, Earth does.

Of course, but what I was answering was that someone said that there wasn't much diversity with names so I put in the info on the Twi'leks, Chiss and Wookies

And here's another, those guys that Luke and Mara run into on Nirauan (spell?). Like Eater of Fire Creepers and they call Luke Master Luke Walker of Sky and Mara is called Mara of Jade

You could speculate he's sexy, though. According to many American mag polls, bald heads seems to be the rage.

I've got that horse face Borsk looking at me up there. It . . . I'm getting distracted. Sorry.

Seems possible that, with the Great Warrior Bacca and whatnot, Bacca would worm its way into a lot of Wookie names, and if we went by the "proper" conventions, half of Kashyyk would be calling itself Bacca, so instead they call Chewbaca Chewie and Lowbacca Lowie rather than confusing everyone by calling them both Bacca.

A good question, Admiral. For all we know, the Shriiwook however you spell it could mean Tarzanfurrs.

Not English translations. A translation would be to show us in English words what the name means. Like most names in SW, Shyriiwook names are close, onomotopeiac approximations, the best a person without Wookiee vocal capabilities can do, which seems to be pretty common among the species of the galaxy. Even the Chiss, while we know their names and they speak Basic, chastise humans for not having the capability to properly pronounce their names.

Master_DuSal: You're probably right about Zhang Ziyi's name, but the point still stands: at one point or another she flipped her name for the benefit of Western audiences. Asians living in Western countries usually adopt Western naming conventions, at least when filling out paperwork or otherwise dealing with those outside of their culture. It's a simplicity thing, and I don't think it's too out there to assume most people in the galaxy do the same. I mean, heck, we already know that the Chiss have "core" names, that Twi'leks alter their names for the benefit of non Twi'leks, and that Wookiees seem to accept standard Basic versions of their names, so there are people already doing basically what people here on Earth do...

It may actually be Khaddar, considering Winter's possible father.

Retrac is backward for Carter. [face_thinking]

    Replicator Carter was awesome!

Has Motti ever been granted a first name?

I know that looser Tagge has... as well as the rest of his ever-growing family. But Motti was the more vocal of the two in the movies -- he should have been given something when all those Firmus's and Lorths and Maximillions were being doled out.

No, you're wrong. The Lorth Needa mentioned in ROTS was a commander. The Needa in ESB was a captain. Unless he got drastically demoted (if he screwed up that badly, Vader probably would have just killed him), I don't think they were the same person. They were probably related, though.

EDIT: On second thought, maybe he was Lorth Needa, Jr.

What about Tionne? Was she ever given a last name? Before she married Kam, I mean.

I was under the impression that the ROTS Lorth and the ESB Lorth were one and the same, or else one was the father and the other was the son. Regardless, the name "Lorth Needa" had been established well before the ROTS novelization.

Edit: Gah! A moment too late! Well you edited your post, so you're forgiven.

Captain is one rank above Commander in naval rankings. Commander is O-5, Captain is O-6.

are you sure that's how it works in star wars? I thought it went captain, major, then commander.

That sounds like the starfighter ranks, which are rather messed up.
Needa is a naval captain, which is equal to a colonel.

It's ridiculous Palpatine doesn't have a first name. It need not even be real. Indeed, none of this actually is. [face_thinking]

Lorth Needa was more accurately a Lieutenant Commander in the RotS novel.

Tagge got two names, even. First he was Ulric, until someone realized that there was that little problem of him dying on the Death Star, at which point he became the "other" Tagge sibling, Cassio.
