I think there are a few possibilities, but I don't know which one. Demandred's on that list, even, and probably near the top :p

But when you come down to it, Asmodean's killer doesn't matter so much as that - s/he may be important otherwise, but the killing of Asmodean is now a minor point. The identity of Demandred, on the other hand, is still huge.

The weird thing is that there was so much (albeit circumstantial) evidence that Taim was Demandred, in terms of looks, personality, ability with the Power, competition with Rand, etc.

We know for sure Demandred is not Taim.

The Borderlands army is a good guess - it would help explain why, in TGS, Nobody really seems to know what the Borderlanders are doing, why they're not at the Blight, etc. They were at Far Madding, if I recall correctly. Wonder if Rand correctly sensed a trap when they wanted to meet him.

Also possible Tenobia is under Demandred's influence.

Hmmm....wonder if Perrin will become involved with Demandred at some point because of the connection through Faile?

Also, the appearance of Hurin was cool, but I thought "maybe it's a Forsaken! It's a trap!!!" as soon as he appeared.

With respect to Asmodean, Jordan always said "read and find out". He said there is enough evidence in the books for people to figure out who Asmodean's killer was, but obviously it's not totally clear or we'd have a definite answer by now.

I remember reading somewhere that the consensus was it was Graendal who killed him, but I can't remember the details.

The other thing that is exciting is FINALLY in the next book we get to see Mat, Thom, and whoever (Aludra?, Noel?) try to find Moiraine. I'm wondering just how big a plot point it's going to be. I originally thought, a few books earlier, that it would be the matter of a few chapters, but since the next books is provisionally titled Towers of Midnight I may be wrong.

I was actually pretty disappointed that they didn't go after her in this book, but I am looking forward to it.

Remember how long it took them to find the Bowl of the Winds? Or how long it took Thom to actually receive Moiraine's letter? Sometimes hanging plot threads can be left for several books before they're resolved.

I think it was Slayer (AKA Lord Luc) who killed Asmodean.

After a decade away from WoT, I really need to reread it.

But in regard to the fate of Elaida, sounds surprising - as the women tend to be very much into spanking and corporal punishment. Maybe some of them are finally growing up.

Slayer/Luc is a good guess as well... hadn't thought about that one. [face_thinking]

Yeah, it doesn't necessarily have to be one of the Forsaken who killed him. It just has to be someone that Asmodean knew, or knew of.

Probably knew, since knew off doesn't necessarily mean recognition of face.

It was definitely someone he recognized by face - which most likely means one of the Forsaken. Doesn't guarantee that, though.

With Asmodean's fate, I'm pretty much convinced by a case of elimination that it has to be Graendal. Everyone else requires a little bit of assumptive reasoning or "if this and this had happened, then...".

I'd say Graendal requires some assumptions too, though...

Though if it was Graendal, it would be hard to show now since she's been wiped from the Pattern. Demandred would be easier.

Yeah, if its one of the now-dead Forsaken, it probably won't be mentioned at all. Even if its one of those still alive, it may not be mentioned :p

I'd think that it would be, just because they know that no one knows. Or at the very least, they'll allow Sanderson to release the name.

I'm still not even halfway through this book. [face_plain]

    It's not that I don't like it, it's downright amazing. I just haven't had the time. :(

I always thought that it was Padan Fain who killed Asmodean. He was in Caemlyn when Asmodean died, and the killer used a knife.

Did it specify the use of a knife? I'd forgotten that [face_thinking]

I just looked up the scene, and apparently I was wrong on that detail. Strange. [face_thinking]

I was thinking it was more of a "You? Aahh! *die*" scene, pretty simple :p

Do we have any evidence that Asmodean would have recognized Fain, though? I'm not thinking of any right now, but I could be forgetting something...

Fain has never interacted with any of the Forsaken with the exception of Ishamael, at least as far has been printed in the books. He is far down on my list of suspects.

I'm almost to the middle of the book now! I know, sad considering I got it the day it was released. :p
