PT Who really won the Palpatine Mace duel?

Oke lets begin. This story begins in our universe.
" A father and son are hiking on a mountain, there were rumors that within these mountains lies a portal that leads to a universe that is 10 times more grander than our universe. The father was named dume. The kid was named krypton. While they where hiking up the mountain it started to rain cats and dogs. the father said"krypton lets find a cave before we are completly wet, it'll be very hard to drie our clothes in these conditions." The son listend and started to find a cave. And ofcource they did find a cave, Although the entrance was very weirdly shaped, almost like a human holding a stick. The form was whearing a somekind of robe and had a scar on his right eye. The son yelled to his father to come with him into the cave. The father came and then they went into the cave. THEN something lid the whole cave up and created a shockwave that knocked the father and the son out. When krypton woke up he heard a very, almost, god like voice. "come here, we are waiting for you" Krypton could not resist to see where this beautifull voice came from. so foolishly he went into the portal." part one of THE GUIDER.

 

That is the first part tommorow in my time i wil whrite the second part, And sidious will have a part in it "plagues aghm aghm."

But THEN when he stepped into the portal he almost fel out of the portel for there was not floor where he could let his body fall upon. So he grabbed the edge of the portal and stepped on a legde that was perfectly shaped to his feet. After that he adjusted his body to see what the view was and what he saw was shocking. It was the most beautiful thing he ever saw. He saw a city made of clouds, there were alien like animals jumping from cloud to cloud and making almost a laughing sound. But then he heard the beautiful voices again. They said:"do not be afraid of us Krypton for we have a great mission for you." But Krypton said:" What do you mean, and what about my father where is he. I am going back." But that last part he said a bit regretfully. When he was about to go back in the portal, the portal suddenly closed on him. He was shocked and fell of the ledge that supported him. While he was falling a cloud came and saved him from certain death. While he trying to get up the beings appeared. Krypton saw how each of them had a different emotion(there where 7 of them) There was one with a almost sad appirience while there was anoughter who was laughing. They then said in coherisen:" We are the Wills Krypton, we are the maker of the universe wich you may cal the Star Wars universum. We have created this universe so we may understand ourselfs better and create life wich we love so much." Krypton was speechless, he could not utter one word while on his mind There where a thousand.

The two probabilities are not comparable. With the topic of the thread, Sidious should expect Mace to charge in any moment. Anakin literally told him he was going to tell the Council. With your example, Commander Cody assumed Obi Wan died from the fall and would have reported it as mission accomplished to Sidious. It takes a much, much higher level of thoroughness in planning to account for the remote possibility that the clones messed up.

 

I remember first watching RotS and it being very clear in my mind that Palpatine set up Mace and being totally shocked when I read on these boards that Mace defeated Palpatine. It doesn't make sense. Lucas in the DVD commentary for RotS even said something like "this is where Palpatine pretends to lose his powers" after Mace disarmed him.
Starting from the beginning, Palpatine quickly dispatches 3 Jedi and when dueling Mace at one point ends up pointing his lightsaber at him and Mace doesn't even has his up. That looked like he could have taken him down then, but instead Palpatine reengages and then happens to be disarmed by Mace exactly as Anakin is walking in. Thus forcing Anakin to take a step he can't walk back from. Seems straight forward.

 

acutally no...The commentary in EP III states Mace disarms Sidious,

him disarming Sidious and Palpatine pretending to lose his powers are two separate things.

 

I agree. But it shows that Palpatine is playing some sort of game here.

You really believe just as Anakin arrives, Mace legitimately disarms him and then he's like, well I'm a pretty lucky guy. It now looks like I'm the victim, the Jedi are aggressors and this will have to force Anakin to chose between me and the Jedi?

so your "you really believe" question can be shot back at you, like a ping-pong match.

The whole scene is the movie definition of suspending your disbelief for anything to work.

It's a lousy, incomprehensible, shoddily lazy effort, which is why this thread is now 43 pages long.

Lucas didn't care about the answer, he just wanted the whole headache of having a reason why Anakin turns just go away.

 

It’s all about what the characters’ goals are on their duels.

Maul’s goal was to kill Qui-Gonn and Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan and Qui-Gonn’s goal was to stop Maul.

Tyranus’ goal was to defend himself from Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Yoda.

Obi-Wan, Anakin and Yoda’s goal was to stop Tyranus.

Both Vader and Obi-Wan goals were to beat each other in ROTS.

Same as with Sidious vs Yoda.

Mace’s goal was to arrest Palpatine.

Palpatine’s goals were to FRAME THE JEDI and turn Anakin from arresting him to joining him.

It’s all about the characters’ goals and Palpatine’s is clearly a set up.

You can’t have a character setting up a lie before without having a plan to make that lie happen.

That totally makes bad writing.

Ok Palpatine, Anakin just turned you down and reported you to the Jedi Council.

What is your plan now to make the lies you said to him before come true????

Ummmm I really don’t know. I’ll think of a plan later after I kill the Jedi who is coming to arrest me. OH NO!!! I underestimated Mace!!! Wait!!! that’s it!!!!!

It was Obi and Anakin's goal to stop Dooku in AOTC. They failed

it was Yoda's goal to stop Sidious...he failed.

and so on and so on...
