Let's talk about spinoffs in this section for once!

So who would you like to see portraying characters originating from the main saga itself? Say there was a Fett film. Should Temuera Morrison reprise his role? Should Ewan reprise his role for an Obi-Wan movie? Should generic deep voiced growl-y dude reprise his for a Jabba movie?

    Discuss!

I would absolutely adore an Obi-Wan spinoff film with Ewan. I'd say wait a few more years and let him age up a bit so it can be closer in time to the events of ANH.

A Fett spinoff has never interested me that much, but I think it'd have to be Temuera if they want to stay consistent with canon.

I would not be interested in a Boba spinoff, but I'd be all for a Jango spinoff. He's already had his own video game though, so....
Problem is though Tem's getting older, and unlike Boba, Jango can't exactly continue ageing as a bodiless head

I think Garrett Hedlund would be the perfect young Han. He could pull it off, but it's not one of those on-the-nose type-castings.

I'm all for the obvious Frank Oz in some Yoda spinoff film! I'd be interested to see some others of Yoda's race...I think GL has been pretty tight-lipped about any of his background. Maybe have Vince Vaughn play his more worldly brother? :p

Ugh. I'm booing myself over that one. Seriously, though I actually would like to see a Qui-Gon movie, I'm going to be a little different and say see if anyone new and interesting is introduced in the sequels.

I've always hoped George was so tight-lipped about Yoda because he had a full story to tell. Much like the Clone Wars were untouchable to EU folks in the 90s because George wanted to tell that story.

I'm in board for a Qui-Gon movie with Liam and an Obi-Wan movie with Ewan.

And I wouldn't know who to cast, but a young Leia movie would be great; keep Jimmy Smits as Bail.

I would love a Yoda spin off, but not a back story about where he's from, etc. More like a story about what got him on the council, and his adventures. I like that Yoda is a mystery character, and would like to see that remain.

If Ewan did an Obi Wan spinoff, that would be really cool. And I'd love Jimmy Smits as Bail to show up in a movie as well. I loved him!!

No Han Solo spinoffs though, please. I like "the mystery" surrounding his background, and I'm stubbornly against the idea of seeing anyone other than Harrison Ford in the role. I'm a bit set in my ways on this.

I would like to see a spinoff where Obi-Wan is sent a message about a group of Jedi (being led by a surviving Mace Windu) making a last ditch effort to destroy the cloning facilities on Kamino, as well as trying to infiltrate the Emperor's palace so they can kill him. And after meeting with Mace and setting up their plans, Obi-Wan confronts Vader again, but this time on Kamino.

If Fett ever returns to the series, I definitely want Temuera Morrison. His as Jango made for one of my favorite characters in the saga. I'd just like him to do a raspier voice, so it's more like Boba's original TESB voice than the Morrison dub. I know Boba's a clone, but he can definitely retain a bit of raspy voice, especially if Morrison is doing it.

Not sure who I'd want to see when it comes to potential recasts, but then, I'd prefer not to have the spinoff films focus on the main characters most of the time. I'd rather seen new faces, new places, new eras. Though I do definitely want an Obi-Wan film set between RotS and ANH. But I'd like to see something with Bounty Hunters, something set a longer time ago in this galaxy far, far away (some variation on the KotOR era that a lot of people seem to love, perhaps?). There are a lot of possibilities beyond just young Han and the usual suggestions.

Gimme a back story for the lineup of bounty hunters Vader called in the catch Capt Solo. Something had to earn them Anakins respect.

Well, I am against the idea of movie spinoffs, as I question the ability to create a complex one-movie plot surrounding existing characters. Spinoffs are bound to pale in comparison with the current movies by their 'secondary' nature. Mostly I think they would be pointless fill-in-the-blanks killing off any sense of intrigue about our beloved characters. If I quickly categorize into three types of characters there are:

1)Characters working best as symbols: Yoda, Palpatine, Gui-Gon...

If I elaborate, Yoda works as the cryptic wise(well, in some areas, others not so much..)mentor. Disagree or agree with his views, he mostly spouts counter-intuitive philosophies to such an eccentric yet insightful extent that there is an aura of 'humanity transcendence' around him. He illustrates the unveiling of the prejudices & of the unknown. Palpatine works as the ultimate Machiavellian Figure. I find him surprisingly layered for a sociopath, but with him those layers are best only glinted at to keep his gleefully diabolical persona. That we have seen Palpatine in his Sith times only & already in the political arena playing the overthrowing game makes him seem like a dark side shadow always there lurking to taint everything. And Gui-Gon basically acts as the counter-mentality to the Jedi Code, his absence being felt as much as his presence. I feel as though showing any of the three characters in their youth & inexperience would tarnish their mystique and ruin their primary functions.

2)Major characters that were not the protagonists in trilogies: Obi-Wan, Han, Leia...

Got their main life events onscreen already, so why bother with them? What is so important that needs to be told? If you manage to give them a pertinent story addition, then it's going to reflect badly on the current movies that X and Y was not mentioned in the trilogies, or even worst, it could ALTER their movie characterization...Just like I felt TCW Anakin was not the same as Prequel Anakin and thus took me out of that SW fanbase quickly(I don't consider spinoffs or TCW canon because I GL is not the main contributor anyway, but I was still hopeful to see an in-character Anakin&co in a decent tv show...), I predict seeing the OOC results of a non-GL interpretation of SW character.

    3)Minor characters: Fetts, Jabba...

I question the ability to develop them into complex persons as most of those had cartoon depth. Even if you can manage to make them more profound/interesting, you need to justify making a whole movie centered around them. Could they really enhance come saga theme more? Is there really a way to tie them to a galaxy-sized event in the PT/OT without just being used as an afterthought plot hole explanation? Very tricky to execute.

If I am forced to select the least horrible idea of spinoff character/cast, however, I would pick Samuel L Jackson as Mace Windu because I feel he had potential not explored in the saga. His seems to have a unique force philosophy, a variation of the stereotypical serene Jedi, and his position in the Order leaves room for his involvement in other major events. But I still prefer no spinoffs.

I've always felt that Liam Hemsworth could be great as a young Han Solo. He definately has the look. Then again, it would have to be the next one after Rogue One-Otherwise he might be too old by then...

I was super bummed to see that Tatiana Maslany (known for the show Orphan Black) didn't get the part for Rogue One. I love her, and I always felt she'd be great in a SW movie. I'm sure Felicity will be great though...
