JCC Why does twitter suck so much ?

Oh I know, I was going to wait a week or month before completely deactivating just in case things don't go the way I think they will . I really don't spend a lot of time there, won't be hard for me to stay away. No temptation yet

 

@Runjedirun Ironically it was around when "The Social Network" came out that Facebook really began to lose it's hipness with the kiddies and Twitter became too take off. When I started teaching (2008), Facebook was obviously the rage but again within a few years it fell off the wayside for Twitter. My wife is the one between the two of us that uses Facebook still for personal reasons but that is only for our neighborhood group, Facebook marketplace (I must admit that has come in handily with the kids as we gotten some barely used stuff on there for them at insanely good prices) and Mommy Cult. Other then that she does not use it. But professionally she is ultimate in charge of the school's social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter which she hates but it's just all part of being a principal in the 21st century aka all the stuff you need to do as an educator that are you not trained for nor paid for but have to do anyway. But that really is a topic for a different day.

@DarkGingerJedi My wife and I are celebrating meeting twenty years ago this week on top it being our wedding anniversary. We meet before even Friendster and MySpace were launched.

it’s like another time. I met my wife thru Martch.com. I almost don’t even remember dating before the internet lol.

 

I remember AOL, although I was young when it hit. It is funny to see all the references in TV shows...

I'm such a product of the past...

I was 13 when I joined my first one. It was owned by ezboard back then, then Yuku and when it was bought out again by Taptalk it became unusable.

It was a Xena forum...

 

I remember that I could only use the internet after 9pm. Cuz that’s the time my mom would get off the phone after calling her friends after dinner. Lol

this was like…1999.

also downloading the Phantom Menace trailer took like 3 hours to watch on QuickTime.

 

I was in college from '96 -2000 and I could never call my parents cause someone in the house was always on the internet and cell phones were not mainstream.

 

I actually discovered AOL before message boards strangely enough. The power of those little free trial discs!

 

I would get those in mail, it felt like everyday there was a disc...

 

I remember calling into the local Bulletin Board System in the late 80s, and the Golden Age of the Internet in college in the early 90s, pre-AOL.

 

You all are old as hell. I didn’t first use the internet until 2007.

 

@DarkGingerJedi Never went online dating so to me the whole thing is foreign. That was just becoming more of a regular thing when I went my wife (2002) so I guess I missed my window with the whole online dating world.

@Runjedirun Incredibly we had DSL early on at my college even though I went the same years as you and even was in an on campus apartment my last two years.

And back in college, we didn't even bother trying to download TPM teaser as instead I just got up ridiculously early and tape the early morning Fox-affiliate talk show via VHS and by that evening over half the floor was in our apartment watching the trailer over and over again. I think we were trying to come up with a drinking game for it which seem to be what we did with everything.

I remember this platform before it started trending.

 

I meant my parents and sister were always on dial up internet @Luke02 that's why I couldn't call home. College was well equipped.

 

My favorite follows on Twitter were The Capital Weather Gang, all things NBA and a real life friend who moved away. I also followed my kids schools but everything they post is in the weekly emails.

 

Is Hanson not on Twitter I take it?

 

They are, but they have some boring uninspired social media hire making their posts.

 

Eve6 is the only band you have to follow on Twitter

 

The thing that really sucks about twitter is unless there is a way around it you can only seen a persons last few posts before they are like “log in”. No twitter I won’t make an account literally to view material.
