I think you got it backwards there. You meant Fullscreen > Widescreen

Nah, I'm sure he wrote it the way he meant it. Just cause the guy keeps the traditional icon doesn't mean he doesn't know the right way to watch a film. ;)

The only people that will tell you that full screen is better than widescreen are A. Those smoking crack or B. Those working for blockbuster :p

I disagree. The ratio is TOO wide. 3:1 on widescreen icons. 1:1 otherwise. Widescreen icons have 2700 pixels. Other icons have 2500 pixels. Yes, widescreen has more resolution, but 200 pixels isn't worth the ugly 3:1 aspect ratio. I like 16:9 myself. It should be like 89x50 for widescreen. (That would be 4450 pixels.)

BTW, 16:9 is APPROXIMATELY equal to 1.78:1. Much better, IMO, than 3:1.

Huh, I would of though the fan film people would of known what they were talking about :p . 3:1 is almost closer to the aspect ratio of SW than 16:9 is. In fact since most of them seem to be pretty straight screen caps I'd assume the aspect is right and the person that got 3:1 just rounded up. ;)

    Edit: Nope, I was wrong. 90x30=3:1. [face_blush]

I would of thought I would of known what I was talking about.

Still 16x9 seems too small to me.

I think they are just great. Its nice to see variety on the Icon Front.

Some of them are a little...unartistic, I guess. Just straight screencaps. I suppose that's the same with some normal icons as well, though. It's a good concept nonetheless.

For the moment the rule is that the Widescreen Icons are scenes from the movie (with a few exceptions - like the Saga Icon).

I agree with you about the "unartistic" bit. However, I'm sure us Icon Makers will start to get more adventurous and original when it comes to making these Icons.

EDIT : I think good old GS sums it up the best. ;)

I'm just glad the actual movies aren't that small.

Widescreen will always be better than fullscreen.

I like the widscreen ones, particularly PlastiqPhantom's Darth Maul one. However, I've had this Lego Obi-Wan icon since the day it was uploaded, and I'll have it until I leave this site. I never change my icon.

I love the Widescreen icons. They are somewhat more appealing to me than the "full screen" ones. And yes, movies are meant to be experienced via 16:9 ;)

I quite like them but I'll stick with my normal Han Solo one at the moment.

They aren't bad. Though while I do prefer to watch the movies widescreen instead of fullscreen, I'm also more of a fan of the traditional icons here. But they do add some variety. :)

You hate them? That's an awful strong feeling to have for an innocent little icon.

Huh, I would of though the fan film people would of known what they were talking about . 3:1 is almost closer to the aspect ratio of SW than 16:9 is.

You sure about that? 16:9 equals 1.78:1 approximately, as I said. What's closer to 2.35:1 (which is what SW movies are), 1.78:1, or 3:1? I do know what I'm talking about.

Or, on a PAL camera, (NTSC's aren't worth owning), 16:9 resolution is 1024x576. 2.35:1 resolution is 1353.6x576. I'd rather not worry about the decimals. NTSC is the other way around, but NTSC is not worth owning if you can own PAL. And you can.

Yes, widescreen is good. 3:1 ratios are bad. I might not mind as much if they'd keep the vertical resolution of 50 pixels. But they had to lower it to 30. Uugh.

EDIT: And I don't have widescreen TVs in my house. So the black bars on 2.35:1 films are even larger than the 16:9 films. 75 vertical lines are black with 16:9, about 174 vertical lines are black with 2.35:1. Of course, this is with NTSC, not PAL.
