Wookipedia is a good resource but i do think people take it too seriously as "The Canon" or "The official facts" when it's a fan website at the end of the day.

True that. Still, I have such mad respect for them trying to keep things "official" and not have it turn into the Star Wars Fandom Wiki. XD

I do think there's an inherent overlap between the people who are going to be most vocally supportive of a GUT-ish project like Supernatural Encounters, and the people who place the greatest emphasis on the importance of Wookieepedia.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong Wookipedia is probably one of the more official Fan Wiki's out their, but it sill get frustrating when Canon Bane's page has the Brotherhood of Darkness on it when it's never appeared in story material.

I read Bane and thought Cad Bane instead of Darth Bane for a second and was very confused.

But yeah, the RPG stuff really needs a neutral tag, because it's not really canon.

Yeah honestly the way they treat RPG stuff these days is infuriating.

I like to follow the "New Images" section of the Wook, to see what people are uploading. You never know what wonders someone will post.

    Like this one today: [IMG]

(Dunno if that image will show up; the Wiki sites have become a pain about image sharing lately)

Ugh, I recognize that the internet runs on advertisements, but the Wook has become absolutely unusable on mobile. I know this has been an issue for a while, but didn’t it get better again for a little bit? Now I can hardly see the webpage for pop-up videos and dynamic ads.

Do you have an account? It's worth making one just to avoid the ads, they really are awful.

Thing is, it's sort of annoying that the casual reader who doesn't have an account struggles to access it. But this is a pan-Fandom thing, not really the Wook's fault.

I keep getting updates from people editing the Great Sith War articles.

What the sin is there to add to the Legends article after all these years?!

Clarifications? Expansions? Any new info from SWTOR?

Quite a lot of Legends articles, especially some of the site's earlier ones, aren't all that detailed. A lot of them aren't even sourced properly, which is how bits of fanon have crept in (and have subsequently been cited in official works). A whole lot of Legends articles could do with more focus.

Somebody made a series of changes on Wookieepedia this week in light of the last two Obi-Wan episodes, but I don't entirely understand their reasoning.

Super minor spoilers here -- this is about the Aurebesh signs, which have nothing to do with the plot:
There are a number of signs on Daiyu in Aurebesh. The Wookieepedian has uploaded many of them, and correctly translated them. No issues there. However, they claim most of the signs signify a "restaurant". For instance, "SWMILK": https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Swmilk

I saw no indication in the episode that this was a restaurant. Nothing opposes this possibility either, but it could be something other than a restaurant. A casino? A bar? A gym? One of those health food stores with a tower of protein shake mixes?

I checked what they said regarding "Gungan Snacks", because the characters ran past a bunch of these signs on Daiyu. As in, they were completely different signs. One shot even had two different signs on opposite sides of the street. Again, the same Wookieepedian claimed they were "restaurants,", although this time, a "restaurant chain": https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Gungan_Snacks

Is there anyplace where this stuff has been confirmed? Or is this just supposition right now?

I'm not questioning the translations. I'm questioning
the assumption that these signs indicate restaurants, and even restaurant chains.

    Oh yeah, same thing.

In particular, I am so thankful that wookieepedia still has a new images section I can find, even if it is more of a hassle now than it used to be, a lot of fandom wikis now don't seem to have it anymore, at least in any place I can find, which sucks because I used to have so much fun checking out those sections.

I’m sorry but was the reddit post not to your liking..? They were translating the writing into english, which is what I thought you wanted.

No, like I said, the translation's not the issue. How about this: If I said, "JediFett10 must be a doctor because he has the word 'vaccinated' in his icon", that would be a leap in logic, right? There's a chance you might be a doctor. But just because you have the word "vaccinated" in your avatar doesn't mean you're necessarily a doctor.

As far as I can tell, somone on Wookieepedia is making leaps in logic as to what those Aurebesh signs indicate. For example, the sign that's repeated multiple times in various places might not be a "restaurant chain". That's a huge leap in logic unless there's another source somewhere confirming that logo is a restaurant chain. And that was my original question: is this individual on Wookieepedia making up this stuff, or are they actually referring to a source they haven't cited?

It's not a huge deal, but there have been folks on Wookieepedia who made stuff up before (ex: characters X and Y have the same last name, let's say they're related even though there's no official source that says they are). Many of the official folks who work for LucasFilm refer to Wookieepedia, and there have been a couple of incidents where "fake" stuff became legit. It's not really the end of the world or anything, but there's that base question "should Wookieepedia be allowed to dictate canon?"

In the case of these signs, the Wookieepedian seems to be assuming that every single one is a "restaurant". Maybe they are. But wouldn't it be more interesting if we left it open for now? Maybe some are restaurants, maybe some are something else?

Again, this is a super minor issue. But it's the kind of thing I can see becoming "official" over time even if there's no original source to confirm it. And it's kind of boring to assume they're all "restaurants".

Ah, I think I get your original meaning now. I’ve yet to see said episode (I’m very much behind on my TV at the moment), but what your saying is that since the writing has now been translated into english, it pretty much doesn’t match the description (or meaning) of said business, have I got that right or not…?

Not so much that it necessarily doesn't match, but that there's not enough context to state the kind of business from the information available.
All we see of these businesses are the signs, so there's nothing to go on but the signage itself. "SWMILK" might be a restaurant; it might be a bar selling Moloko Plus; it might be a grocer specializing in standard-weight milk; it might be the offices of S. W. Milk, Attorney at Law. "Gungan Snacks" might be a restaurant chain, or well-advertised brand of cookies, or a string of strip clubs catering to Gungans.
We just don't know, unless some other source somewhere has elaborated on the topic.
