But she wasn't using her intelligence to her advantage, just her ability to do so. She was not a typical femme fatale, but some arrogant villain who doesn't really want to deal with most of the people. Such a role would require certainly more screen time and major plot involvement to build well. Her Mad Men performance support my point.

I don't question the director much, but the script.

So much of Legion's last episode was good, but I particularly loved the juxtaposition of humour and horror. Carey trying to communicate through charades in the middle of the genuinely creepy soundless sequence (and dammit if the show didn't make me jump in that bit) was my favourite in ep5, but the show has consistently been good at juggling that kind of thing. And visually, this show always looks amazing. Also Dan Steven's performance makes me incredibly grateful he escaped Downton Abbey when he did because he's so much fun in this.

Love the promo for next week with the normally smartly-dressed The Eye stuck in one of those horrible psych-ward tracksuits along with our heroes. How humiliating for him.

You're right, Emma Frost is an arrogant villain who doesn't really want to deal with most people. She's a snob for sure. A real mean girl. January Jones doesn't look any bit of that when she's on screen. She looks like the girl next door trying to be cute. Nothing really arrogant or villainess.

Jones looks like a bored housewife like in Mad Men. It's kind of:

Jones doesn't look very seductive either when the script call for it:

Sorry about that. It's Friday and I'm just trying to run out the clock on my work day. :p

I would love to talk Legion but I haven't watched the most recent episode yet.

However, I don't think Emma Frost was under or misused in First Class, just miscast.

I don't think these scenes were bad, she was doing what the director had told her to do, especially the smile scene.

While I like Theron, I don't think she did that well as the evil queen, too many yelling/scream scenes, of course it might not be her fault.

Of course she was, no actor could do much about such a small and boring role.

You realize First Class isn't about Emma Frost, nor did the character need to be service as such, right?

And yes, the director asks an actor for a smile; it's up to the actor to deliver and emote the persona of the character. Theron and Jolie can deliver a devilish smile as shown above.

If you could somehow transplant Hayden Christensens smirks onto her, she'd be golden.

While we're on the topic of Legion, Aubrey Plaza can do an unsettling smile like nobody's business. [face_plain]

So the script indeed underplayed her compare to the comic version, when Shaw had become the enhanced antagonist.

If the director is not pleased with the smile, he would ask her to redo it again until it's good enough. It's not that she couldn't even deliver sinister smile.

Hayden got the same problem, the script and Lucas' characterization was the main issue. People overblamed him.

Did Lucas do Life as a House? He was terrible in that aswell.

Perhaps Vaughn did ask Jones for different smiles and just decided she couldn't do what he was asking for. IIRC, Vaugh only had like 6 weeks to film the movie and therefore didn't have time to spend on Jones performances. Some of the best performances occur when the actor improvises and takes charge of the character. If Jones needed alot of direction on how to portray the character of Emma Frost, then she was definitely miscast.

Again, the script didn't under play Frost. She was used in the film as she was used in the comics when she first appeared, a supporting villainess character. The comics did a good job of delivering the devilish smile.

Do you seriously believe that? January Jones probably wasn't a good actor, but you say she couldn't even deliver a sinister smile under the director's guide? Seriously? If she was asked to do evil smile and couldn't do so, the director would simply change the direction and not let her smile rather than such a sweet one.

Actually, tons of the great acting had a lot to do with the directors, even many good actors need the director's guide to get into the character well. That's what directors are for and why they are so important in movies.

We are talking about movies, it doesn't have that much length to build up the characters. Like Wolverine was just a Hulk villain when he firstly showed up in comics, but we don't see him showed up like that in the first X-Men movie.

plz remember January Jones and Matthew Vaughn were also sleeping together during filming (Vaughn married)/eventually having a child together (which Vaughn denied).

he was probably telling her that she was fantastic, even though she can't act worth a damn.

    Well it's the script/director's problem.

This isn't stage acting, anyone could act out something in TV series/movies as long as the director have skill and patience. I don't think January Jones is that bad.

LOGAN Director James Mangold Revealed The Movie's Ending In "THE WOLVERINE"

In that 2013 movie, Yukio, who can see the future, tells Wolverine that, "I see you on your back, there’s blood everywhere. You’re holding your own heart in your hand." A scene like that plays out later in the movie but after one fan compared that prophecy to how the hero dies in Logan, it turns out that the director may have had Wolverine's demise on his mind four years before that was released!

In this instance, Wolverine's "heart" is his daughter X-23, and while this would normally feel like a stretch, you can't really argue with it based on the response from Mangold on social media today.

Didn't make out the specific dialogue except where obvious (like when trying to explain the parasite inhibitor, etc).

But, yeah, as mentioned earlier, the episode does a good job of balancing the humor/danger (as well as the creepiness/sexiness- not just the Switch from the white room romps to the yellow devil's steady walk but even the Plaza manifeststion).

On some level it also kinda feels like this series was written by characters from Mallrats, as it directly addresses the type of questions someone like Brody might ask (i.e.: "how could character X have sex?").

One thing I wanted to mention earlier too is how the "fight girl" that manifests from the older scientist wears probably the most traditional type of X-Men outfit we've seen, being in all blues and yellows and a belt under her jacket. It feels like something Morph or a generic X-Man would wear in the cartoon or 90's comics.

Things changed, but not everything. Logan still gained his Adamantium from Stryker, the Adamantium bullet still exists, the Liberty Island battle still happened, Rogue and Iceman still got together, Beast returned to teaching at the mansion, etc. One of the things to still happened was Logan went to Japan because Yashida wanted his DNA in order to cheat death. Probably the bulk of his Japanese adventure still happened except for how Yukio found him, losing his Adamantium on his claws and his mental state at the time. But Logan still dies in the same manner that Yukio saw.
