Everyone knows that LOTR is better than Star Wars by some length, but star wars's CG on Yoda is a bit better, but you also have to take into consideration that Gollum is supposed to be a freaky non realistic looking thing.

...and Yoda is supposed to be a normal realistic looking thing? ?[face_plain]

Gollum was well done, but I still like the character Yoda better. Also, that lightsaber duel with Dooku was in a league of its own.

The Star Wars FX are way better cause in LOTR when Gandalf is on top of that fire dragon it looks really fake and one more thing "Yoda, rules he does"
Gollum is too much like Dobby yeah

    Yoda Loves You

Gandalf on the Balrog was a hell of a lot better than Anakin on the shaak. [face_laugh]

    >>Everyone knows that LOTR is better than Star Wars

oh my GODDDD. that is SO WRONG. Morally wrong.

    >>>Gandalf on the Balrog was a hell of a lot better than Anakin on the shaak.

well, I mean, its easier to make anything look real when what you are animating is a) eveloped in darkness which you can use to hide obscurities and b) is not even made out of the same material that animals on earth are made with (ie, fire, smoke). And fifthly, the shaak scene was less important than the rug ball scene, so they probably gave it to a junior animator.

    >>>Me either, I'm not sure why but for some reason digital Kenobi is a 100 times more convincing then digital Jango, which makes no sense.

I think it's with animating/rendering metal that they have the problem with. They make it look TOO smooth. This was the problem with some shots of the clone troopers for me, the metal/smooth plastic surfaces are so smooth they glisten and look extremely fake. I think CG rendering should have a few more of nature's "pencil strokes" in it to bring it up to higher level of realism.

This is also the reason why I don't like those super-realistic airbrushed paintings - they don't look real because everything is too smooth and plastic-y!

The old problem with CG was that weird blue-ish hue everything seemed to have (does anyone know what that was about?), now I think its smoothness. I dunno.

Gandalf's and the Balrog's falling battle into the depths of Khazad Dum wasn't covered in darkness, because the latter's flame-engulfed form illuminated both characters.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with their fight either, and I'd ask to you point out specifically what you see as looking fake.

well, I don't recall ever saying it looked fake. So I wonder where you get that from.

And I'm glad it was brighter than I remember it. I'd try and watch a clip of it so I can continue this debate, but then it would be fresh in my mind...and I definitley dont want that.

The tone of you last post indicated that you thought Anakin on the shaak looked better than Gandalf on the Balrog, which would mean that it looked fake. My mistake if you didn't mean that.
