    YKWS?

Asking your sparring partners to please not step on your feet, as they're still broke from last time they were stomped all over, and having them stomped on again regardless, even though you are kind enough not to kick them in the shins like they asked, even though they felt it was ok to kick you in the shins.

    YKW also S?

Not being able to wear your running shoes with any degree of comfort cos your feet are all busted up from sparring.

Although now I have to plot and plan a new and interesting way to overcome this foot-stomping attack. Posibly involving gonads...

But how ever will you support your husband in the kitchen and laundry if you can not stand?

stomping side kick into the knee as they stomp down (rock back onto the rear foot as they come in.

    or

switch step into a los round kick.

something that uses the weight of them stomping against that joint.

Am not sure that such a thing is cool in tonglong, but it works for me.

I may have over-simplified, and even exaggerated a little.. It's not so much them purposefully stomping on my feet it's more then not watching where their big clod-hoppers are going when they step. A half the time, it's not even the person I'm sparring with but someone else, who's stepped back and landed on my footsie-wootsie, so it's a bit hard to see them coming :(

Hey Kahli, are you guys allowed to wear shin/foot pads??? I was thinking it might be worth a trip to Qld Martial Arts Supplies if you're allowed to use 'em. They're only about $40, and they'll save you all manner of trouble with your feet and shins. Not a lot of martial arts work too well with broken feet...
Well, there is that rare Shaolin Drunken-Broken-Foot style, but that's about it.:D

    YKWS???

Being desperate for a copy of Trisan and Isolde (having seen the movie) and being told by just about every bookstore in Indro that it simply does not exist (even though you know it does).

Then having some arrogant little shop snot tell you that "There is no book, it's just a myth" at which point you have to remind yourself that strangling isn't the answer. Instead you lecture them on the fact that some of the story of Arthur comes almost directly from the original legend, which is probably based in some sort of fact similar to Robin Hood etc, and so just as you can get original translations of Arthur and Robin Hood you can also get them of Tristan and Isolde. To which the ALSS responds "But it's just a myth, so it isn't written down!"

To which you try to remind yourself exactly why you became a history teacher.

    Grrrrrrr!

    Kithera

P.S: Angus and Robertson (who are always friendly) found me the book and offered to bring it in for America if I could not find it somewhere closer (which I can't). Still have to check Borders though.

    Edit:

    Had to add another one.

Being bitten on the thumb by your one year old niece hard enough to leave an impression for about 15 minutes and a mark a good hour and a half later. God it hurt. Then she tried to bite my other thumb, but I pinched her as she did it. I love her, but if she continues to bite me there is going to be major action taken!

Ah kids biting...so much fun. I did the pinch back thing too, but he ended up just pinching me abck harder. Biting is a chucked in teh room and smacked offence in my house now. Hasn't happened much since then :)

I'm sure the UQ library would have to have a copy of Tristan and Isolde!

    Was the movie good Kit??

    YKWS?

Spending a fun night in town, then being subject to the whims of the public transport system by missing both the last bus AND the last train, and hence having to take a cab home, costing much $$$. Bah.

And while we're on the subject of things that suck, there's that whole thing about the gearbox in my car failing spectactularly (it's sitting in the driveway right now, stuck in reverse) and no doubt ending up costing several hundred to fix (I'm hoping against hope it will be something minor, but my luck's not that good). Sigh.

The movie was fun. Most movies today are dumbed down for audiences, so it wasn't really an intellectual challenge (or any sort of challenge for that matter). A couple of historical errors, but pretty good in terms of historical accuracy.

For me, the big point is that I intend to buy it on DVD. That's saying something seeing as my DVD collection currently numbers a whole 12 DVD's and most of those are kids movies.

Absolutely not. If my sifu saw me with those things on my feet/legs he'd laugh, and then make me do more conditioning to strenghthen them up. :(

Kit: there's a triology that's just called 'isolde', which is about the tristan/isolde thang, and I'm pretty sure I've seen it around. By Rosalind Miles:
Isolde, Queen Of The Western Isle
    The Maiden Of White Hands
    The Lady Of The Sea

I would love to see the look on your sifu's face if you rocked up with those on.

I broke someone's hand by accident last week. I wonder what will happen this week.

You Kung Fu-istas sure do things differently...

There's an old Muay Thai saying, "train like you're fighting." So all that padded protection does, is allow you to follow through a little more in sparring. As far as conditioning goes, I guess prefer the control and consistency you have with say, kicking a tree, rather than clanging bare shins with someone else in sparring.

    YKWS?

Having pretty much absolutely nothing to do for going on 6 work hours straight now. It might sound ok in theory, but there are only so many magazines you can read, websites you can visit, and trips to the toilet you can make to fill in the time.

If only i could go home, or even for a kip. I might go for a walk, but I can't go far, and there's nothing to see around here anyway. Well, there's the river, or I could get some breakfast... Anything to stop yawning.

you've been at work 6 hours this morning? or are you including yesterday? Yikes if it's since 3am this morning.

YKWS.. kids being sick. He's lying on the couch, refusing to eat, with a high temp and a cough, and keeps looking at me telling me he's not very well and crying. I'm crying just writing this. You're totally responsible for these little people and it feels SO bad when you can't help them. That really sucks.

1 hour this morning, 5 hours yesterday.

Don't feel bad kahlan. He'll be ok. I get that it's heartbreaking cos you want to fix him, but don't forget that he's building up important antibodies to protect him from worse infections, and also that growing up hurts, and sometimes all you can do is love them and rub their little backs, and that's totally ok.

:) ta. Was going to go to the doctors today but she'll probably want to give me antibiotics which I obviously don't want him taking every time he is sick, those antibodies and all of which you speak. Yeah I know he'll be fine.
