Coming from Christian Bale, that's something. Looking forward to this movie.

I would love it if the prime May Marvel 2024 release slot goes to Deadpool 3, it would be almost a parody of that Marvel Studios release date.

With these rumors, I feel like I'm more excited about the revival of the Netflix Marvel content than most of the MCU proper material.

Probably in a few weeks, when the last episodes of The Boys, Westworld and Ms Marvel "air," I may watch season three of Daredevil again.

That's me to a T. Far more excited about the Netflix revivals than anything else in the MCU slate. Though I will say I am really psyched for Echo because I like Maya's character a lot and Alaqua is fantastic. A part of me hopes Maya winds up with Marc Spector, if only to beat the crap out of him as she did in Bendis & Maleev's Moon Knight. I think Oscar and Alaqua would perform that very funny scene together beautifully.

Speaking of Netflix revivals, I wonder if
Krysten Ritter just hinted she might appear in She-Hulk*
    today.

    *There have been rumors
    Jessica Jones
would appear in She-Hulk. I think that would be brilliant as this character's sarcasm is golden: I could imagine some very funny banter and take downs.

I went to see the film at 3:00 PM earlier, and I thought it was fantastic.

This may very well be my favorite Thor film. I'd give it a 96. I give the first Thor a 92, The Dark World a C- or solid C, and I'd give Ragnarok an 89.

I felt bad for Jane Foster every time we saw her in her mortal form. But this is the most admirable the character has ever been. It was nice to see Darcy for the first time since WandaVision...or What If. Heh heh. Some people found Darcy annoying back in the day, but I never did. She's funny, caring, and intelligent. It's good that we got a quick cameo of Selvig. He did vanish with Thanos' snap and like all the others returned with Hulk's snap. I was cut up when she was dying, but she gave her life to help those Asgardian kids and everyone else. As for Chris Hemsworth, he was funny quite a lot, and I liked the running gag of him missing his old hammer, even calling it his ex-weapon, which served as a nice parallel to how Jane was his ex-partner. And Stormbreaker was jelly. Ha ha ha! But during the more dramatic parts of the film, Hemsworth was almost as good as the late Chadwick Boseman in some moments. Love this guy. And what can I say for Emma Thompson as Valkyrie, or Val as they called er? She's a gorgeous and talented actor. I'm glad she didn't die! I was scared that Korg was going to die when Zeus attacked him. But thankfully he survived and regenerated. Zeus was a real ******* as I knew he would be. If anyone knows anything about Greek mythology, Zeus is a narcissistic womanizer and deceiver. While Crowe was funny at times as Zeus, the Olympian god was a little scary at times, particularly during that mid-credits scene when he bade Hercules to slay Thor.

Now, Christian Bale did not disappoint as Gorr. He was both terrifying and sympathetic. He was a great deal more powerful than I anticipated. The fury and skill with which he fought and some of his shadowy powers reminded me of the female Dark Lord in my own legendarium of novels. And he actually looked quite a bit like her, aside from the fact that she has long, curly hair and tattoos and wears black. She has completely black eyeballs with teal irises, and Gorr's eyes were similar. Plus, he drained color wherever he went while the Necrosword was befouling his mind and amplifying his PTSD and hatred. My Dark Lord's black hair, black eyeballs, frostbitten eyelids, black clothe, and even black lipstick suck in light subtly, since her final form is analogous to a black hole. You can tell that this guy has some serious trauma issues that have transformed into sheer hatred and rage for the gods. I liked how Bale delivered the lines. My reaction to Gorr is comparable to how I felt about Wanda the Scarlet Witch in Multiverse of Madness: A mixture of disagreeing with the motives and pity for the person. I'm glad that he somewhat redeemed himself by choosing to bring his daughter, Love, back instead of annihilating the gods. While some gods are callous and haughty like Zeus, some are noble like Thor.

My only criticism would be that a couple of lines were difficult to understand. Secondly, I'm not sure how Jane got to Thor in the final battle. Maybe it was due to Zeus' lightning bolt or a heroic sacrifice being connected to Mjolnir. I'm not sure.

I figured that I would like this movie, but I did not expect to like it this much. I also loved the music. Michael Giacchino and Nami Melumad did great work. I look forward to seeing this with my partner in a few days.

I just looked at this fan-made trailer, and Thor saying, "Come to Daddy," when he was trying to get Mjolnir back was so funny. This movie balanced being a comedy and a drama very well.

Also, Thena, and whoever else is interested:

(cross-posting from the Last Movie You Watched thread)

    Pre-Thor 4 marathon

Before watching Thor 4 I screened the Thor movies, as well as The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I feel like the movies hold up pretty well after even after 10 years or so. When they were new, some of these had a novelty element because of what had come before, and the fact that some of them brought together a whole bunch of characters we had seen previously in separate movies. Re-visiting some of these when so many more movies have followed add an additional layer of pleasure to movies that were already pretty fun to begin with. With the older movies, we have seen the events that followed in the next decade or so, and the appearances of so many of the heroes who've since left the MCU has a marvelous nostalgic tinge. In some cases, we can also appreciate in hindsight how carefully some of the stories have been built up, for example the first Avengers movie already had references to Natasha's red ledger and Dreykov's daughter almost a full decade before those things were more fully explored in Natasha's own movie.
    Which brings us to...
    Thor: Love and Thunder

Honestly, I have always had some trepidation when it comes to Taika Waititi. I don't think he's always been successful at balancing the tone and mood of his movies. While Thor Ragnarok added some wonderful new elements to the MCU, I was a little disappointed with Jo Jo Rabbit, which I still feel is one of the worst Holocaust-related movies since Roberto Benigni's Life is Beautiful - a movie that despite a highly talented cast never quite found the right note to juxtapose humor and pathos.
Thus I am incredibly relieved to find out that Waititi has not only hit the bull's-eye this time, he has actually outdone his previous work, making this one of the most refreshingly fun and amazing MCU movies yet. There really wasn't a single moment during the whole movie when I wasn't captivated by the smooth flow of so many contrasting elements - sincere, gut-wrenching pathos, flippant humor, knowing winks at the audience, a real sense of romantic longing, and more than anything, a sense of contrasting forces of really galactic proportions.
Every single person here is at their absolute best, starting with Natalie Portman, who has never been more strikingly beautiful while at the same time successfully projecting a hitherto unseen strength that makes her a literal goddess (not that she wasn't always! *wink wink*). Hemsworth and Thompson are just as fine as always, definitely having a lot of fun while also bringing the required gravitas to their roles, and Christian Bale makes for a truly unique and unforgettable antagonist. There is one other character, also seen in the trailers, who is an absolute hoot. I would gladly watch a D+ series starring this new-to-MCU character.
As always, staying through the closing credits is absolutely worth it. The end-credit stuff is... it's just totally gob-smackingly fabulous. It does a remarkable job of giving us something to look forward in the series while also bringing just the right sense of closure to other parts of the saga, in a way that is truly worthy of the gods.

Re. the TV-series would I like to say that I have only really watched Iron-Fist and while I do like the actors and think they are good in their roles, did I have some problem with the plot, the use (or rather disuse) of the other Immortal Weapons, many of the fight scenes and the more or less lack of Rand putting on the mask. So I would personally have no problem with them just continuing using the main actors and rebooting everything else.

Cripes, how hard is it for the industry to acknowledge Anthony Mackie’s Sam is now Cap?!?

That's been pretty apparent in the VFX output on Marvel's stuff for the last handful of years. I don't blame the VFX artists at all, they're working under absurd deadlines and it seems that Marvel's production teams don't really do any of the prep in advance to make the VFX teams lives' easier (look at the Endgame situation, where they just... didn't bother giving the Avengers their time travel suits on set 'cause they hadn't designed them yet, so just... slap 'em on in post!). This has all gotten exponentially worse the more Marvel's added to their plate each year, with at least three films and just as many (if not more) seasons of television now hitting each year all coming from under the same banner with so many of the same hands involved. The people making them are just being spread way too thin.

People like to rag on Avatar: The Way of Water and the following sequels for taking a million years to come out, but all of that time was spent actually really pushing the designs, the technology, and giving the artists - the actual human beings bringing all of this stuff to life digitally - the space to actually work and put their best material out there on screen. And it shows.

It shows with the MCU to be sure (hard to tell re: Avatar, until we get a lot more footage). The VFX is so absolutely terrible that I find the MCU shows unwatchable. And lo and behold, Marvel treating VFX artists like dirt is the culprit.
