Yes, I really wanted to smack Larry for his stupid prodding. Would you get off the gay subject already! So Advocate did an article. What, we should change the S-shield for a rainbow now!?!?!

Not to mention they showed the clip of Suprman and the plane about fifty times during the course of the interview.

i think "gay" is just the new buzz word. all it will take is a movie to have another tag line and we will all be going "gay who"? he is just too nice that's all. remember high school and the cool guys seemed to be the idiots who peaked in hs? as soon as hs was over and the girls started looking for a hubby, those nice guys who had manners were attractive. he is just reserved and protective.

weezer, i traded him my copy of lord of the flies for the novelization. hopefully i will be finished by monday. btw, he's nine and a genius. of course it helps that i teach literature.

Jerry Siegel, who co-created Superman, came up with the idea originally as a villian for a sci-fi story. He later reworked it into the basics of what we would come to know today. In his shaping of Clark Kent and Superman, a chief idea was that Kal-El would feel like an outcast due to his alien heritage. Though raised as an Earthman, he is not one. This went towards how Siegel felt growing up, more so once WWII got going, being that he was Jewish. Feelings of alienation and being different apply to everyone. Not just homosexuals.

There are those who can see such conotations and that's fine. Be it Smallville or the films. But they must remember that it applies to everyone.

Yeah, the "gay" talk got old awhile ago. I think its kind of sad that WB thinks they have to defend it on that front. They're worried about that all important male teen dollar though so you get Singer making comments like "this is the most heterosexual movie I've ever made" which I think is ridiculous. [face_plain]

Slightly off topic I got one of the greatest Superman stories ever animated on DVD today. "For the Man Who Has Everything". I was thinking I was going to have to wait for the next season of Justice League to come out to get it but I was at wal-mart and they had it on one of the Justice League compilation discs that Warner was so fond of putting out for awhile.

True, that was a great episode, but in all honesty George Newbern could've put a little more effort into that "Burn" line.

Its a great interpretation of one of, arguably, the greatest Superman stories ever told.

Since it was the only episode from that season that I really loved I was ready to put down the $40.00 for the season set just for it. Much happier with a $5.00 version :p

Next week and through the first, US television will have a buttload of Superman related media. From Superman Homepage.

It's all about Superman this week - everywhere you look, he's returning from somewhere. "Superman Returns" opens Wednesday, June 28, 2006. Tuesday night, June 27th, many theaters will begin showing the movie at 10:00 PM. If you're looking to get that last minute fix of the movie's PR machine in action, your television will be happy to oblige.

MTV debuts their half-hour special, "Back in Blue: Superman Returns Movie Special" on Friday June 23rd at 7 PM. MTV plans to repeat the special Sunday the 25th at 8:30 AM, Tuesday the 27th at 10 AM and 11 PM. MTV2 will also repeat the special on Tuesday the 27th at 11:30 PM.

The TV Guide Channel airs "Superman Returns: Inside the Journey", a one hour special, Sunday the 25th at 9 PM.

The National Geographic Channel debuts "The Science of Superman" on Thursday, June 29th, at 9 PM; on Friday, June 30th, at Midnight; on Saturday, July 1st, at 10 PM, and on Sunday, July 2nd, at 1 AM. The same team that worked on "Look, Up in the Sky: The Amazing Story of Superman" worked on this documentary. And speaking of "Look, Up in the Sky", A&E repeats the documentary June 29th at 9 PM, June 30th at 1 AM, and July 2nd at 11 AM.

Also HBO continues airing "Superman Returns: HBO First Look" - it airs multiple times virtually every day through July 1st and you can check HBO's website for a complete schedule.

The HSN (Home Shopping Network) has an hour devoted to "Superman Returns" on its schedule for Monday June 26th beginning at 5 AM, and again at 7 PM. Presumably this means there will be lots of movie merchandise for sale. Not to be outdone, QVC has an hour devoted to Superman on July 3rd at 3PM.

The talk show appearances continue: On "Live with Regis and Kelly", Brandon Routh visits on Tuesday the 27th and Kate Bosworth visits on Wednesday the 28th. Check your local listings for time and channel in your area.

Visiting NBC's "Today" on Wednesday, June 28th is Kate Bosworth - check your local listings for time and channel in your area. Jim Hambrick, curator of the Metropolis Illinois SuperMuseum, tells us that same day, the "Today" show will also air a report on Metropolis, Illinois and its Superman connection. Bosworth also visits NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" on Saturday, July 1st, at 12:37 PM.

Kevin Spacey plugs away on Monday's "Late Show with David Letterman", at 11:35 PM on CBS. NBC repeats Spacey's hosting of "Saturday Night Live" on June 24th at 11:30 PM. Then Spacey shows up on NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" on Thursday, June 29th, at 12:37 AM. Finally, Spacey's slated to appear on Thursday, June 29th's "The Daily Show with John Stewart" at 11 PM.

Kate Bosworth appears Monday, June 26th at 11:35 PM on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

Ebert & Roeper review "Superman Returns" on their syndicated TV show during the weekend of July 1st (originally scheduled for weekend of June 24th). In Chicago, it's on ABC at 10:35 PM (Central Time), but check your local listings for channel, date, and time in your area.

If you have Cinemax, their entertainment preview show, "Final Cut", is scheduled to air a 15 minute special on "Superman Returns" on Monday, July 3rd at 9:45 PM.

"Superman: The Movie" airs on Cinemax on June 29th at 7:30 PM, followed by "Superman II" at 10 PM. Then, "Superman: The Movie" begins airing on HBO2 on July 1st - at 6:30 AM and again at 6:30 PM.

The Biography Channel repeats the Biography of Christopher Reeve on Monday June 26th, at 7 PM and again on Tuesday the 27th at Midnight. The Biography Channel also counts down the top comic book movies in "Hollywood's 10 Best" airing June 29th at 11:30 PM.

American Life TV airs "The Adventures of Superman" every Saturday evening at 5:30 PM. Saturday June 24th, it's "Jungle Devil". And as a bonus to those that get this network: Tuesday June 27th, they're airing a six-hour marathon of "The Adventures of Superman" beginning at 8 PM and running into Wednesday morning.

Yep, posted that a couple of pages back. Things are moving quick round here now.

Looking forward to the Science of Superman on National Geographic. Kal-el.org listed it with a sooner premiere date but their list seemed a bit off. [face_thinking]

Edit: Its also a good week for shopping not just TV watching. Here are a couple of pages out of the Wal-Mart circular for the week.

Lol! Why is MTV repeating the special at the time that the die hards will be already at the theaters watching the movie?

79% on RT now. I think it'll definitely bump back up to the high 80's or low 90's. Some Slant Magazine (who will bash even the best film) won't bring the consensus down.

yeah. plus who actually reads those reviews and base whether they're going to see the movie off them? also those are relatively unknown magazines or sites that have bashed the movie

Except that reviews don't mean anything these days. Serenity got very good reviews, and the movie bombed at the box office. Da Vinci Code got horrible reviews, and it's the top summer moneymaker so far.

Eh, it matters to some people and it depends on the movie too.

Serenity had various stumbling blocks to over come before people even started reading reviews. Da Vinci Code was the exact opposite where it had so much going for it reviews were going to be hard pressed to bring it down.

In many ways, you're right, they don't really matter for these summer blockbuster type of movies. You're looking for that teenage/young male dollar and they tend not to be effected by what Ebert or the like has to say. I know I'm looking forward to hear what he has to say about it but it won't sway me. I like to hear what he has to say but it doesn't always dictate what I'll see as much as it might for my parents. There are some other audiences that may be swayed by positive reviews though. More importantly I think that it could give the movie some legs that movies like this don't often have.

Dbl post but I thought this was interesting:

Kal-El.org is saying that Superman Returns is doing very well with the online ticket sales:

MovieTickets.com said Friday that it was selling three times more tickets to "Superman Returns" five days before its opening than it did for "X-Men: The Last Stand" at the same point in that movie's sales cycle. And Fandango said Friday that 25% of all tickets it was selling that day and the day before were for "Superman Returns."

Just as side issue. The reason for "Brainiac Attacks" being like it is has been revealed on Newsarama. Turns out the principle writer of the story is the same guy who works on The Batman and did the animated film for that series. But rather than creating all new designs, WB used Curt Geda and most of the team from JLU for this film. That is why everyone acts differently and the story has continuity holes. It is out of continuity to all the other shows because it was never intended to be part of Timm/Dini world.
