    I'll give him credit he did something similar with a tour bus last year and the bits have worked. Anything's better with a hot dog cannon right?

    I would have been annoyed if Apes won for VFX. I'm okay with Blade Runner, the hologram girlfriend is worth it just for that

    I'm okay with Dunkirk winning for editing even though Baby Driver had awesome montages but Dunkirk is basically one giant action scene back and forth

    Notice how Mark Hamill was the first one to stand up for the theatre walkover bit. Luke Skywalker knows to go meet the public. I kinda dug it better than the tour bus bit Last year.

    Couldn't stop laughing for a couple of minutes after Kobe's win; when I saw Dear Basketball during his jersey(s) retirement, didn't think once about its Oscars potential.

    I wouldn't have been to thrilled If I was attending a sneak peek of a film and it was interrupted so Hollywood Actors could entertain us.

    I'm really getting sick and tired of the shticks that the Oscars have where they feature sort of a reality TV show in the middle. It's boring and just drags the show on longer than it should go. And then they kick off the couple who put together the short film about the deaf girl because the guy was taking a minute too long to thank a few extra people.

    I'd be real pissed if I was seeing a sneak peak of a movie for free probably and Mark Hamill or Gail Gadot came out...that can happen anytime I go to the movies.

    My wife just shut it off out of boredom. That is a first. Maybe were getting older and more jaded but again I do think it's hard to get people to watch an award show that now has many films they never seen when there is so much other content out there to watch. There be no way to know this but I wonder who tonight will have more viewers. The Oscars or Netflix? I bet dollar to donuts will be rummaging through Netflix then watching the Oscars tonite especially when you factor in teenagers or even kids?

    @BigAl6ft6

    That is one of my first parts I saw (i was Casino via Netflix on my I-Pad with ear buds for much of it) and unless that was a planned sketch, not many people came off with that. Mark jumped at the chance and so did the kid from Baby Driver but nobody else really did though Margot Robbie did come running either she really want to go or she was late for the bit!

    @Guidman

    Depends on who it was and what they were doing. If I was someone I really like and they were going to stay awhile Q&A about filmmaking, acting, etc (not what their favorite sherbet flavor is) I love for that to happen. If they were someone Im not a big fan of and just doing it to look good for a few good minutes on worldwide TV to thanks the "movie going audience" after lukewarm ovation (that was a disconcerting how unmoved the room was to that statement) I be pretty annoyed tbh.

    Whoot! Get Out for best original screenplay! Maybe a precursor to best picture?

    Logan wuz robbed for Best Adaptation! But, fun fact, they said it was "Based upon characters created by Len Wien and John Romitta Sr.", Which were the guys who made Wolverines first appearance. In a Incredible Hulk comic! Which has really nothing to do with Logan (considering it's based upon a dozen different sources) but they said it was adapted from the first Wolverine comic book apperance ever

    So in the #MeToo era, your sole contribution from the depths of welfare receipt is to cheer the fact the "purdy gurl" effect in Blade Runner won?
    Nothing like working class retrograde conservatism to ruin everything.

    I am a really shy person I would hate it to each his own I guess. but I am sure they made these people in the theater sign waivers before they went in.

    on another note my favorite band is Pearl Jam I cant wait to hear Eddie Vedder sing at the Oscars!

    Agreed. The whole house stood up for Deakins too. Also for Blade Runner which is a bonus

    I'm okay with the awful musical numbers cuz it gives me time for smoke and doing laundry

    The Shape of Water for best score? Lol. Ok then. Star Wars deserves that.

    @Luke02 You've brought up your dissatisfaction with the nominees several times so far. Coming from someone who typically watches a lot of the nominated movies and a fair amount of the blockbusters as well, I ask you, what is a more worthy Best Picture nom, American Hustle or Pacific Rim? Whiplash or Dawn of the Planet of the Apes? Black Swan or How to Train Your Dragon? Midnight in Paris or Deathly Hallows 2? The Shape of Water or Wonder Woman?

    I liked every single film I mentioned there, and in every case I thought the first movie in each pair was the better one, sometimes by a lot.

    Your problem is they snub genre movies. I agree. I think there are a lot of great genre movies that should have been nominated. Blade Runner 2049, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Dark Knight, etc. But you're acting like they're just picking a bunch of nothing movies. Every single Best Picture nominated movie I've seen in the past decade has been at least very good, if not great (granted I haven't seen everything, but I've seen a lot of them). The only one I didn't like, Winter's Bone, was still a good movie; I just couldn't relate to it at all. There are certainly more movies that could have been nominated, but for the most part the ones they do nominate are deserving.

    It is about quality, not popularity. You can argue about their biases and that's a valid discussion and we'll probably largely agree, but you make it sound like the Oscars should just be dominated by blockbusters. That's silly.

    They have a bias towards drama, sure. But who doesn't love the art of a well done dramatic film? I love great dramas. Most of the time my favorite film of the year ends up being a drama. There's nothing inherently better about them, but a lot of talent is attracted to them and there are a lot of great ones made, which is a good thing.

    Now, if you want to talk about their actual BP winners, well, I'm 2/10 out of my favorite nominee winning in the past decade (not counting this year). But oh well.

    has John Williams ever won an Oscar for Star Wars? if not that is a really big shame that has to be remedied one of these years. may be for Episode 9?

    He won for ANH. He was robbed when TESB lost to "Fame" and ROTJ lost to "The Right Stuff".
