Hmm, interesting choices, but I think The Rock would have made an amazing Padme. As for Maul, none other than the legendary actor, Louie Anderson, can do the character justice.

Claire Daines would've made a cool Padme. A bit too old (NOT "old" at all) but nonetheless older than Padme is in TPM.

The Rock would have made an amazing Padme

    I can just see it:

"I move for a vote of no confidence in Chalcellor Velorum's leadership, IF YA SMELL WHAT THE QUEEN IS COOKIN'"

"Now Viceroy, we will discuss a new treaty as I LAY THE SMACK DOWN ON YOUR CANDY ASS!"

    Panaka: "Your highness I think-"
The Rock as Padme: "IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK!"

I can't remember if I actually read this somewhere, or I made it up, or it came to me in a drunken dream, but wasn't Morgan Freeman one of the actors considered to play Qui-Gon? Any truth in that rumour? Or should I keep away from those weird packets of sugar that I keep on finding in parking lots?

    Qui-Gon Jinn:
    Jeremy Irons (Lolita- 1997)
He would work perfect as a menthor. His character has a lot of depth.

    PIC 2: http://www.perfectpeople.net/media/celebs/1198/81367-1049646308.jpg

Obi Wan Kenobi: Jude Law (who is pretty similar to Ewan McGregor- they were roomates, afterall) :)
Russel Crowe could have also worked eventually.

    PIC 2: http://www.freewebs.com/emrys/blokesvarious/ewan_jude01.jpg

    Queen Amidala/ Padmé:
    Charlotte Gainsbourg (Jane Eyre- 1996)
After seeing her as Jane Eyre I thought she would have been great for the role of the Queen and the Handmaiden. Watch this version of the movie and you will understand.

    Anakin Skywalker:
Kieran Culkin (The Mighty-1998/ Igby Goes Down-2002)
He is a great actor. Already as a kid he proved his talent and the same goes for his teenage persona.
Sure, he wouldn't have played the innocent Anakin we got in TPM with Jake Lloyd but rather the one we saw on early conceptual drawings.- A bit older, different haircut, more of a dragged outfit.
He would have already established some cold/ wisecracking moments.

    Jar Jar Binks:
Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future Trilogy- 1985- 1989)
He is a great guy and delivers a funny performance. He would have worked pretty well voice and animation vise, I believe.
Either as Jar Jar or as Darth Sidious- though we are talking about alternate NEW character actors.

    Darth Maul:
David Bowie (A.K.A.: Ziggy Stardust, Major Tom, Thin White Dude, Labyrinth......)
    Loving the alien..... :)
Ray Park for the stunts and wide fighting shots and Bowie for the close up fighting and acting. He already worked with George Lucas on Labyrinth.

Would someone like to review my choices without dragging down certain choices for eventually starring in bad movies or having names you wouldn't like to have accomplished with SW or because they are singers?

That would be sweet. I took my time finding some pics that would present the actors in a SW-like way so it's easier for you to see why I chose them.

Culkin as Anakin's an interesting thought, but your idea for Padme intrigued me the most. I don't think I've ever seen the actress in anything, but I think she might look more like Carrie Fisher than Portman. Christopher Lloyd as Jarjar? Well, I think they'd have to change the character quite a bit to make that work. Wouldn't mind having Lloyd in a SW movie, though.

Billy_Dee_Binks, I like your choices but for different roles.

I see Jeremy Irons as too stiff and not quite heroic enough for Qui-Gon, but I think he'd make a great senator or Jedi council member or even Palpatine.

I think Russel Crowe is too old for Obi-Wan but I like him as a possible Qui-Gon. His performances in Gladiator and Master and Commander show that he plays the "charasmatic leader" role well.

I think a younger Jude Law would have made a great Anakin.

Kieren Culkin is an interesting choice, but I think he's a little too much of a smart ass. He'd be a good young Boba.
That girl looks like she'd have made a great Padme.
Not sure about Christopher Lloyd and David Bowie, but they'd be good in the Star Wars universe.

    I'm proud of my picks.
David Bowie would have been a great Darth Maul. Just look at the pics I posted above. I guess there would be no need for contact lenses because of Bowies different sized pupilles.

Sure, Christopher Lloyd would have played Jar Jar different. Same exaggerated movement but different facial expressions and eventually some silent acting too?
Of course he would have been as CGI as the real JJ was.
It would have been cool if JJ was wearing a tiny hat/ cap.- Would kinda fit Lloyd?? :)

Also, IMO Jeremy Irons can play the role of the Jedi teacher very well. Whiny? Never noticed. Watch the casting clips for Lolita and you will notice how strong and powerful he can react.
