Well, based on that flop (astounding if you have clubs) I will have to unfortunately fold.

In the future, I'm looking to do more intense betting, but for starters it is better to keep it simple.

why must players be limited to betting only one? this is texas hold'em - surely you can go all in if you really want to!

 

This game is going to last forever if we can't go all in.

 

I'm in, whatever amount that means.

 

When I was designing the game, I thought about that. If people were able to bet whatever they wanted, everyone would have to bet the same amount, which would increase the time rounds would take. This was the simplest way I could work it at the time. I do want to try and work out a way that we can do unlimited betting, but I'm not sure how to go about it.

Again, not at the moment. I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible the first time around. As we get better, we can start changing the rules around a bit.

Oh well. Two callers with 4 clubs showing. I guess I'll fold this one now.

 

if people are able to bet whatever they want, everyone must bet the same amount, yes - but how does this increase the time rounds will take? it should make rounds go QUICKER. if i go all in before the flop, maybe 3/4 of players fold and we're left with only a few left. that's automatically making the game quicker. if i can only bet one, then potentially everyone will participate, then it takes forever.

more importantly: going all in and raising and bossing people around is an integral part of the game... what are we left without it? where is the ability to bluff your way through with nothing? the current rules basically leave the winner to ONLY be the player with the best cards. this is not always true in poker.

 

I agree with your second paragraph completely, epic.

As far as the workings go, I'm pretty sure Kypt was talking about each betting round. Not each round of cards played, i.e. each game. The reason why the betting rounds would take longer is because if people raise we'd have to go around the table once again. For instance, if the first few people called the one credit and then I came in and bet 5 credits, it would virtually start the betting round again in the sense that everybody has to chip in and post their bet another time (or fold). And, additionally, in that second table circle you could then add onto it and go all in ... making that one betting round last even longer!

Making that work with time limits is what Kypt is trying to figure out how to work. Personally, in the next game I would simply allow raises and checks and just see what happens so you know which areas need immediate addressing.
