JCC August 9, 2015 - Celebrating 70 Years of Non Nuclear Warfare

I know I'm starting the festivities a bit early, but it's a big milestone. Collectively, we've now avoided nuclear war for about the global average of the statistical lifespan of a woman. A whole human lifespan without lobbing a nuke at anyone is an extraordinary achievement.

Good job so far, everyone. One step at a time. A girl born on August 9, 2015 will likely live until at least 2085, so there's the next benchmark. I'll try to avoid nuclear warfare for as much of that time as I can stay alive, and I hope you'll do the same.

Peak nukes was about 1986 I guess, at about 65,000 warheads.

Allegedly, we're at well under a third of that worldwide now.

 

Thankfully the U.S. is going to spend around a trillion dollars to upgrade and maintain its arsenal. Reducing the number of nuclear weapons to a few hundred on submarines would save a lot of money and still be insane, but not insane enough, I guess.

The U.S. has poured a lot of money over the past 2 decades toward keeping those 120 Pakistani nukes politically stable and logistically secure.
