Autographs

It will depend on three things IMO:

1. How long the line is behind you for that particular actor (gotta keep the line moving in a timely fashion).
2. How long the actor has already been signing for that day (they might be tired of taking pics with fans late in the day/night and might want to just sign your pic and move on).
3. The overall mood of the actor (Billy Dee wasn't in the best of spirits at C3 and turned down taking pics with him).

The overall sentiment and experiences here from fans of past Celebrations say that most actors will be happy to take a pic with you.

 

I would say that the odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field, approximately 7,380 :1 are better than the odds of Harrison Ford showing up to any convention.

If there were such a thing as negative odds, I would go with that too.

 

I'm still going to hope for Harrison anyway.

I definitely hope I can have my photo taken with the actors - I think that would be as good a souvenir as the autograph.

 

Sad isn't it? Especially since Ford owes his life to Lucas. Ah well. It's been my experience that most actor... I said MOST.... are just plain jerks. They say they appreciate their fans but in the end, I doubt that they do very well. They'll spend 3 months on a movie for 15 million and think we should be grateful for them. Bah!

 

I know - what a pity, but I think in the end it is THE ACTORS who are missing out.

The would get an 'appearance fee' for going, a chance to be surrounded by appreciative fans in a (relatively) controlled environment (can you imagine? Not only would they be assigned 'escorts', but one call of 'Help' and every fan within hearing distance would rush to their aid! *first in Line to give Hayden mouth to mouth* ) The only 'pressure' would to be a little considerate of the fact that some people are star struck...

I remember way back when, I was living in England when Tears for Fears was doing the "Songs from the Big Chair" tour (for those with Math issues - this was in 85' or so) and I was part of a small group of fans that hung out at the Birmingham Odeon, collecting autographs and pictures.

There were about 5 of us that day, and the 'boys' came out of their hotel across the street and walked to the stage entrance. Roland was gracious, even though he said he didn't have a lot of time, Curt Smith literally took one look at us and stuck his nose in the air!

We were *dumbstuck*! We hadn't crowded them, or screamed or any rubbish like that, but he treated us like we weren't worthy of scraping *poop* off of his shoes!

Just as they reached the stage door, one of the guys recovered his voice and called down to him -

















"We pay your electric bill, mate!"






Curt looked damn Po'd at the show that night, especially when Roland got the louder applause...


Word travels fast, you know.

 

Which is why I am only concerning myself with the celebs that are ACTUALLY attending CIV. If the celeb's name appears on the OPX guest list, then I care. If not, then I don't care. You can drive yourself crazy hoping & praying that guest "XYZ" will show up.

 

I understand what you're saying, but you have to undersand a few things. Most people don't consider most of the celebs showing up, celebs at all. They aren't even character actors. Stars are Harrison Ford, Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman. Character actors are Bob Balaban, Samuel L. Jackson, Steve Busecmi, James Cromwell, Bob Gunton, Ed Harris, William H. Macy, David Morse, Joe Pantoliano, Oliver Platt and Philip Seymour Hoffman. As years have gone by, some of these actors have taken more prominent roles. Hoffman and Macy were up for Oscars. I'm sure a few others were as well. I don't feel like doing the research right now.

My point is that, the Jensen brothers, no matter how nice they are, aren't really a good draw for most people. Let's face it, can anyone off the top of their heads name 5 other movies the Jensen brothers were in? Even the original guys are disappointing. My dog has David Prowse and Peter Mayhews autograph. Having a Harrison Ford or Mark Hamill or Natalie Portman would be worth standing in line for. I'm sure all the non-celebs are great people. It's just disappointing to spend all this time and money to see the guy who played Jabbas left arm.

Why go to the con then? If the bereft of guests bothers you and the panels annoy you, just stay home? The last thing I got to a con is to see annoying fans. Heck, I get that online for free.

 

Ummm, maybe because getting autographs and listening to guest panels aren't the only things to do at CIV? There are TONS of other things to do/see for all 5 days.

And nobody is complaining - its a forum dude. People voice their opinions about what they would like to see at CIV, from the celebs to what food should be served in the Fan Club members dining hall.

 

Someone wrote on another thread -sorry I forgot your name this second- in that its always the minor cast members that are more entertaining chatters and seem more grateful to be there as fellow fans! There seems to be more 'revelations' whenever they talk about the day to day life on the set (we always had a rough idea of who was 'making out' with who, who was taking drugs etc) but they seem to always go into a bit more detail! I was at one Q&A and a couple of them discussed how many props they stole from the sets! (I wont mention names!)

In comparison the regular/major cast members as a general rule (except Jeremy Bulloch) may appear rude, impolite and clearly only there for the money. Thats fine, as they do it more often or are far too important to deal with us fans.

Im not ashamed to admit I have been to many Star Wars conventions in 5 countries and I will say that an audience always laughed harder at a comment from a minor cast member than from a regular/major star. They've already told their stories over the years and they have nothing more to add, it gets tiresome when they say yet again how hot it was in the suit, how great George was etc. Im hoping this CIV has more minor/supporting cast memebers as ive seen in other conventions to help freshen things up a bit so its not another carbon copy of CIII. Thats just my 2 cents!

Most people will be standing in the store line for eight hours.

 

Did anyone get the chance to meet Carrie Fisher at C2? If so, how the experience? I got a voucher to get her autograph and was wondering how she is as a signer and if she'll pose for a pic.

I was her escort this year at Comic-Con, so can tell you it all depends on what kind of mood she's in. She was in a very good mood on the days that I was with her in San Diego. If she's got glitter in her hair -- it's going to be a good day . One bad habit she does have is talking on the phone while she's signing. She does that on occasion. She's not doing it to be mean or rude on purpose, it's just the way she is.

She has no problem with posing for pictures if the line is short, but since that's probably not going to happen at C-IV, it's just impossible to have her stand up and take a picture with every person -- it just takes up too much time. But you can stand there and take a picture of her (if there's room), you just probably want be able to get a picture of the two of you together.

Open 24 hours a day for 5 days???? No way. A line yes. 8 hours? Not happening. Anything else?

 

As I recall, Carrie did not allow anyone to take any pictures at C2.But even though she seemed a little tired by the time I got to her, she was still nice and was willing to talk. Even asking me if I she was going to my autographed pinball translite on Ebay after the con. And I said no way!!It's going back on my pinaball machine as soon as I get home, and she said "cool". So I found her very pleasent. On the other hand my friend saw her outside smoking, standing next to her and he said,"hey your princess Leia" and she said "very good"real sarcastic like. I thought that was funny.

 

I was in line for 6 hours for Carrie at C2, and by the time I got to her, they wouldn't allow photos, and she did seem tired by then. Before we got to her, someone was going down the line with post-its, asking people their names if they wanted personalization, and wrote your name on the post-it, which would be placed on your photo.

 

I'm realistic in the way that I wouldn't expect her to come across the table and pose with me. I'd be happy with me leaning over the table and getting her assistant to take the pic. I just want proof to show my sister that I actually met her lol
