Why would I judge a movie I haven't seen?

 

Not sure yet. I'm not terribly thrilled about the movie revisiting previous locales. The story seems a tad bit weak. It's doesn't feel epic. I don't like this thing about a missing light saber. I seriously doubt Han examined Luke's light sabre well enough to know that it belongs to Luke. I also don't like this movie's eagerness to pay fan service to the max. Maybe six months now I'd know more to decide where this movie will rank.

 

For me, ANH seems to have a different feel from the rest of them. To me, virtually ALL of the characters we saw in ANH became more interesting and developed in ESB, and in ESB is when that slight 'brooding danger' feeling was introduced into the saga, and I feel like that feeling was present in all the rest of the movies, from ESB and ROTJ and into the PT. ANH is the only movie where I don't feel that sense of brooding danger in the background. I know that's kind of vague, but it's the best way I can explain it. lol This is all IMO, of course.

Also, to keep things somewhat on topic, based on the Teaser for TFA, it seems like that sense of brooding danger is continuing in 7.

 

I love Star Wars (I still cannot call it A New Hope all these years on) and Empire Strikes Back almost equally, so third best for me at the moment.

That said, if the story and cast are as good as some of those SpoilerMan rumors are implying, it could be my second favorite. I'd like that.

 

That's because ANH, or Star Wars (to be pedantic) was made as a standalone film. It could've quite easily bombed and not been popular. It's easy with hindsight, but at the time Lucas had no idea. So what's the point of leaving the story open if there's no clamour for more? Sure Vader survives. But the good guys win and The Death Star is destroyed. The End.

 

Can't wait for Yoda's film excited I am.

 

Storywise it is the odd one out because TESB doesn't really follow on from ANH. The backstory of Empire is only partly connected to the previous film. This was due to the transformation from the adventures of Luke Skywalker to the Rise, Fall and Redemption of Anakin Skywalker.

 

It doesn't really follow on from ANH story wise? Really?? ESB gave depth to Vaders character but it was still centred around Luke's journey. He was the primary hero of the trilogy after all.

 

This is how I would rank the films we have:

1. ESB
2. ANH
3. ROTJ
4. ROTS
5. TPM
6. AOTC

I admit that if TFA does not come in at least at fourth place, I'll be disappointed. If it comes in third, even better. If it comes in second or first, I'll be gobsmacked. Who knows where it'll fall, but I think third is not at all outside the realms of possibility.

 

Based on what I know? It's the worst Star Wars film ever. It's less than a minute long and you have to read through other websites to find any sort of plot.

 

With everything that I think I know, this could be the best, seeing as how I know very little.

Realistically, I'm going to say 2nd, 3rd. Coming in behind ROTJ or ROTS.............IMO.

 

My current ranking looks like this :

2. ANH
3. ROTJ
4.TPM
5. ROTS
6. AOTC.

I fully expect TFA to be in my top 3.

 

The more I think about it, the more I realize that it is possible that this film might end up topping ESB as my favorite Star Wars film. I'm not going to go in expecting that, but the details I'm generally hearing about this film really have me excited. But it'll definitely be in my Top 2 or 3, I think.

 

Hopefully it's in the top three. At the moment I'd rank them:

3) Return of the Jedi
4) Revenge of the Sith
5) Attack of the Clones
6) The Phantom Menace

 

I know the movie is still a long ways out but predictions and polls are always a fun way to pass the time. These boards have become a little hostile as of late, so I figured a new thread for some fun lighthearted debate and discussion would lighten the mood a little bit. So the question is exactly what the title suggests. Where do you think TFA will end up in you rankings of the saga? Everybody has some sort of episode rankings in the back of their mind, so I'm interested to see what your rankings are and where you think TFA will wind up falling. Then we can come back here on December 19 and see how our expectations compared with reality.

So I'll start things off. Realistically I think it will rank some where between 3-5, but my heart is telling me it could climb as high as 1 or 2. So I think as of now I'm going to predict it will wind up at 3.

So come December 19 I'm projecting my rankings to look like this.

This is newrly identical to my ranking/opinions on the films and my prediction for where The Force Awakens will end up, although I'd put Attack of the Clones as "bad". The absolute floor for this film, I think, is the same level of quality as Return of the Jedi. The ceiling is a tie with A New Hope. I'm expecting it to be in between, which I'll be thrilled with.

Great: ROTJ and TFA
Entertaining: TPM
Bad: ROTS
Horrible: AOTC

 

I see the original six as one story so I rank them:

Lucas Era
TPM = AOTC = ROTS = ANH = ESB = ROTJ

Non Lucas Era
TFA

To me the Lucas era will always be the tops because it came from his heart and soul and that can't be duplicated. All other films, even though they might be commercial successes will have a different feel to them. They may be great, but they'll never be "The Six Film Saga".

 

Hopefully:

ANH, ESB, ROTJ, TFA.

I like "Weekend at Bernie's" more than any prequel so they don't really rank for me.

I'm a fan of the whole saga so there isn't a bad Star Wars movie for me.

 

I'll put TFA on at least the 4th spot or maybe higher, being Menace an entertaining 6th and Clones the awful 7th. The fifth is shared between Jedi and Sith. The top 2 are Hope and Empire.

(Funny I remember AOTC in its heyday being hailed as a return to form, after the Phantom Menace hype and fall - apparently everybody hates it nowadays)
