Robin crept along in the shadows, his body crouched slightly and his footsteps as silent as a ghost. His masked eyes darted in every direction, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. He was looking for something. What it was, he did not know, but there was something. It was nigh, and he could feel it. He also felt something else, an instinct that someone was watching him, studying his every move. He heard a splash in the background, and quickly turned to find the residual waves of a puddle of waves. Someone was here.

He slowly walked along the path of the dark alleyway, on each side of him an abandoned brick building. There was a dumpster with rats along the bottom, but no trash inhabited its interior. Suddenly, out from behind the dumpster, a bullet whizzed by Robin's face, missing only by centimeters. Alarmed but not frightened, Tim dropped behind the box that could only hold so many bullets before it gave way. The bullets stopped coming and all was silent. He looked around on the ground, searching for something he could use. And then he spotted a rock lying on the concrete ground, only the size of his thumbnail. But it would suffice. He picked it up and peered around the box, noticing a leg revealing itself from behind the dumpster, preparing to make a second attack on Robin. Perfect. Robin pulled his arm back and threw the rock into the back area of the alley as the attacker jumped out into the open facing the direction of the rock and the opposite direction of Robin.
Too easy, Robin thought. He pulled out a toxic dart from his utility belt, loaded it into his gun, and shot it, hitting the thief directly in the neck. Seconds later, the stranger fell to the ground and began to snore.

In the distance, Robin heard a clap, and saw Dick Grayson approaching him from the back part of the alley where the rock had been thrown. "Very good, Tim," Dick said, halting his clapping. "You'll make an excellent Robin."

Tim smiled, indeed a rarity for him. "Thanks."

The sound of Carrie's voice interrupted Tim's thoughts as he reverted back to the present. "Didn't he asy something about a Night Wing character who was coming to town? Some old friend or something?" she said.

Tim surmised that she was referring to Batman, and was aghast at the mention of Nightwing. "No, he never mentioned that to me. Of course, you and I both know he's more open to you than anyone else, except Alfred of course." He noticed a mumble emit from Carrie's mouth, and from what he heard it sounded like "This is going to barter when I fought." He knew he had misinterpreted the mumble, and would let it slide. He looked at Carrie. She looked decent, and was quite easy on the eyes. But he would not make a move, not yet. They had more important matters to attend to, and attraction was irrelevant. But he couldn't help but gaze at her beauty.

    Red X
    Gotham Highway

    Wheee-ooo, wheee-ooo, whee-o-

The violent shriek of the patrol car's siren died with the flick of a switch, as did the bright flashing of the red and blue lights on it's roof. The need for those sirens to be turned on in the first place was completely non-existant; there was no traffic.

Suddenly, Red X spotted a mass of cement and bricks off in the distance, over-lapping the highway. It seemed as though the tyrannic might of the earth-quake had demolished the very foundation of this building, tipping it over in a way that it crushed the entire highway in on itself. The entire rode from about 20 meters from where the patrol car was and beyond was caved in. Attempting to go any further was suicide.

The vehicle came to a screeching halt, and once it's advances seceeded, X stepped out, a small set of binoculars in his hands. He acquired them from the small glove compartment inside of the automobile. He walked up to the edge of the highway and looked on, trying to spot a specific building as best he could through the binoculars, despite all of the dust and rubble.

After about a half an hour, he was succesful. His destination was a good mile away. He'd have to stick to the shadows and avoid any suspicion on his way. He hopped over the iron baricade of the highway and plummeted a good 50 feet down to the ground below, landing keenly on the balls of his feet as he started towards a darkened alley, removing his shirt and cap, dumping them into a nearby trash bin that was toppled over..

    Almost there, he thought...

Instead of waiting for an answer, he turned around and was about to jump off, but he turned around and said one more thing.

"There is no such thing, as a happy circumstance."

He jumped off and glided down into ana alley, teaming with beggars and thieves. He sifted his way through them all, and eventually out into the open, where he quickly made for the shadows. While still in darkness, he saw Tim and Carrie walking along the debris covered streets. They looked like they were having a good time, and it angered Bruce.

He then spoke to them, in a voice just audible,"Having fun?"

As Tim continued to walk down the littered streets of Gotham City with Carrie, his long cape billowing in the ginger wind emitted from the overhanging clouds that loomed over the city like a calamitous foreboding, he spotted an unmistakably familiar silhouette approaching in the distance. Batman.

"Having fun?" the Caped Crusader asked his proteges.

Tim spoke up before Carrie got the chance. "Do you even know the definition for that?" He frowned inside as he could easily tell from Batman's grimacing mouth that he was upset. Robin was back to his normal self.

Bruce half-smiled, something he never did in his Batman persona.

"I have no time for fun."

He looked over at Carie, and just let out a sigh.

"The Joker, Andrea, and Dick Grayson are back in town. I don't want you going near any of them. Do I make myself clear???"

Carrie was walking with Tim,not talking but it was nice. Then Batman came out of no where and asked if they were haveing fun. She couldn't help but roll her eyes. Did he ever leave them alone for more than ten minutes...not yet..oh no,wait, this had been a whole hour. Robin spoke up, not Tim, not the kind boy she knew he was but the super hero he was towards the Bat. Carrie almost rolled her eyes again but caught the glance from Bruce and kept her eyes straigh.

They weren't sopposed to go near some people. Night Wing, Joker(duh),and Andrea. Carrie had heard of the first two but not of the last one. "Who's Andrea?" she asked.

Why didn't he want them going near an old Robin? Wasn't he a good guy?

Batman walked out of the shadows, and in front of Carrie.

"Someone you should not go by."

He walked off, and with his back still turned to them, spoke.

"I'm not going to be around to watch your back, you better listen."

Havoc leapt off of his pile of rubble, landing silently and making his way through the streets. After the uneventful night thus far, he decided it was best to get home... if he still had one. If not, well....... he'd figure out what to do. He could live without the luxeries of life.... although they were nice. As he came up on his house--which was located just outside of Gotham, but still on the island--he saw that it had gone through some pretty damaging stuff. The roof was caving in in places, and part of the house had fallen away completely. The fence surrounding the entire property had held up though, keeping looters away. Havoc slowly made his way unnoticed into the house.

I was in pretty good condition, considering what it had gone through. Sure, most of his things were broken, and rubble was strewn all aobut the floor, and less than half the house was anything close to livable.... but that didn't matter to him. His room had remained fairly in tact, and he changed out of his clothes as Havoc and turned into Marcus. He collapsed on the bed and went to sleep. The bed was still comfortable.

Carrie took a step back when Batman steped up to her. A reaction she had devloped over the couple of months she had spent with him. Sometimes he would surprise her with a side sweep to the head or kick out her legs to see if she was paying atention. Today she was.

When he spun away from her she almost argued. Almost. Then turned to Tim, "Who's Andrea? Or at least, what does it look like?" she asked.

How could she stay away from someone if she didn't even know what they looked like?

OOC: Aww, Batman's probably afraid of Robin and Catgirl finding out about his old love life. :p

By the way, I doubt even Robin knows who Andrea is. This should be fun. ;)

    The Phantasm IC:

Her eyes watched quietly through her mask as she noted the band of looters of a home and store go running down an alley way, screaming and shouting at each other to go as fast as they could.

"The Bat! The Bat's back! He just murdered Frank!" they were saying over and over again.

So, I return to Gotham City once more and again they mistake me for the Batman, for Bruce...fine with me, let the rumors spread, let them after Batman in this ruined town again, they won't know its not him till the end.

Using her left hand to create the smoke from the inbuilt system for it in her suit, she basically disappeared from her spot in a broken building.

As the band of five looters ran down the alley, they suddenly screeched to a halt as a chain came flying from out of nowhere and wrapped around the leader's neck, proceeding to twist and break it, killing him. The chain dropped to the ground as well as the dead man. The four remaining people panicked and looked to where the chain had been dropped from. Only a mist of some was there, disappearing.

"We...we gotta get outta here!" screamed another man as he pulled out a handgun and ran ahead of the others and going around a corner. The others yelled at him not to. "Tommy, don't!"

Tommy looked around frantically as he ran when suddenly a whisp of smoke to his right, causing him to pause and give a few coughs...then there was a sharp pain in his right arm. He looked and there the person was...but that wasn't the bat..i-it looked like the Grim Reaper himself!

"Tommy Lozrenge, your angel of death awaits..." spoke the Phantasm grimly. Andrea had quietly observed these people until she knew their names, it made it better to attack when she knew who they were.

Tommy's eyes widened and tried to wrench his grip from the being, not able to use his left hand as he was holding a paper bag full of stolen goods in it. He wasn't able to budge an inch.

Phantasm simply bent his arm down and used her left elbow to smash into it at an odd angle, breaking it. Tommy screamed and then saw the figure grab his right hand and bent it so the gun was facing himself upside down...which hurt because of the broken arm.

"Goodbye, Tommy..." The others in the alley way heard a gun shot and an abrupt end to Tommy's screaming.

The three remaining looters, two women and one man, huddled against themselves, almost back-to-back, trying to look in every direction. They were scared out of their minds and Phantasm liked it.

Phantasm let his voice call out from the shadows, aimed at one of the women.

"Cassie Unundra, your angel of death awaits."

Cassie's eyes widened as the other two challenged the Phantasm's statement.

"I'd like to see you come and get her, you freak!"

Unseen to them a puff of smoke appeared in the middle of their circle, the Phantasm appearing there. They caught a whiff of the smoke and saw some rolling out from behind them, cursing. As the other woman and man turned to get who they figured to be Batman...they saw only smoke with some kind of metal curved blade like weapon sticking out of it and stabbing Cassie in the back. The curved blade hand retracted back into the smoke and Cassie dropped dead.

The remaining two dropped their stolen goods and brought out bats and whacked away at the smoke...revealing nothing, nothing at all. And soon that was what they would become. None have beaten the Phantasm and she would keep it that way.

"Zack and Mary Henderson...your angels of death await."

Phantasm peered around a deterioting wall of a building he was in and saw the two of them looking around carefully. She smiled and pushed the breaking wall, due to its state, it was quite easy to remove from the foundations and she didn't have to worry about the roof caving in on her...there was none anymore.

The wall crumbled away and fell to the alley belo

OOC:Welllll, since Carrie doesn't know who Andrea is....she isn't REALLY breaking orders...

    IC:

Carrie was waiting for an answer when a comotion broke out. It sounded to be about a block away. With out waiting for Tim or any order since he was in charge, she clicked her wheels into place and took off.

Carrie was becomeing Cat Girl as she raced toward the noise. She eaisly out paced any human on legs(except maybe some very fit superheros/villains). Once she arrived at the sence she wacthed in horror as a Grim Reaper stabbed a looter. Still on wheels she almost didn't stop so she quickly banged her heels together and fell not-so-gracefully on her back. As the hair left her lung she made a HUFF sound.

How could she be less catish? Cat Girl stood wanting to shoot herself and hoped that the Grim Reaper thing hadn't heard...though it was highly unlikely. "Great Ms Kelly, lets see how much trouble we can get into today." she whispered to herself as she pulled out her sling shot.

As soon as the earthquake had set her free, it hadn't even occured to Harley to head to anywhere but here. She knew he would appear here sooner or later and she would wait as long as it took.

Harley sat down in a shadowy corner and lost herself in thoughts as she waited. Now they were free, they could finally defeat Batman together and then they'd be even more free. Free to get married and live happily ever after. It would be bliss.

The sound of a familiar voice drew her from her reverie. "Honey, I'm home!"

He had barely finished announcing himself when Harley leapt out of the shadows, an enormous grin on her face. "Puddin'!" she cried, throwing herself at him. "It's so good to see you!"

    IC: Jonathan Crane
    ~Arkham Asylum - Two Nights ago - ~

Jonathan Crane sat in the corner of his padded room in Arkham Asylum, his straight-jacket still attached to his body. He had been given many straight-jackets, as he had, mysteriously freed himself from the others. If he wanted to, he could free himself at this very moment. Though, he didn't feel the need. It was pointless. Yes, it was quite fun to see the frustration on the guards and doctors' faces when they see they must, yet again, sedate crazy Jon once more to, yet again, put a straigh-jacket on. But, it was getting old.

So, for the last few days, he simply sat when he was in this room, sat and stared out the window, building up his hatred for that wretched bat. Batman, as he was known, had forced him into the asylum a few years back. Luckily for him, though, he didn't go to jail for the simple fact that he was literally going insane; the bat had used Scarecrow's toxins that causes the brain to hallucinate, and it's victim to see all their phobias at once, on Jon.

However, it had been a long while since the effects wore off. Actually, he used his secret antidote that he had carried with him to relieve the insanity, leaving no side-effects at all.

He would soon sleep. There was no need for a bed in his room, for the padded floors provided sufficient amounts of cushioning. Pillow? He didn't need one. After a few more hours of staring, he finally fell asleep...

    Few Hours Later

Jon awoke a few hours later and felt a chill all over his body. He laid on the floor, face down, eyes remaining shut. It felt strange, he had never felt a chill in his room before, it had always been perfectly warm. Unless, perhaps, he wasn't in his room anymore. Though, he still felt the padding, so, obviously, he was in his room. Turning upright, he rubbed his eyes out of habit. He paused. His jacket was off! When he opened his eyes, he was even more surprised, he figured out the source of the breeze: there was a giant whole in the wall!

He stood up and walked near it, peering over the edge. He smiled at what he saw. Rubble replaced what should have been buildings; fire burned almost everywhere he looked; he could hear distant screams. He entered his room once more, the grin still on his face. What had happened? He hadn't felt anything overnight, surely it was raiders or something.

The next thing Jon noticed was the door to his room was open. After twenty minutes of sitting, pondering, wondering...thinking, he finally came to the conclusion that he was free! He finally came to the conclusion that he could now continue his work! He could now seek vengeance on that wretched bat!

OOC: From now on, as Andrea it will of course be considered 'she' in my posts, but as the Phantasm, I will be referring to Phantasm as 'he' because thats how most perceive her. ;)

Yes, well, first come first serve, nemisis my friend. :D And plus, being Death, its more fitting for me. [face_skull] ;) :p

    Phantasm IC:

Phantasm stood revelling in the feeling of death filling the place, it almost overrode her senses. Almost. But there was not time to get lost in it, only time to choose her next place to stake out. Already had she, though unspoken, gained her own area of Gotham City...the five she just murdered were no where near her first since she decided to purge the city clean.

Oh no, the last one, Mary Henderson, was probably around the 36th murder so far for Phantasm. If there was anyone who was lucky enough to witness her murders and got away before he noticed them, then soon enough it would be known that Phantasm was around and had his territory, otherwise many would just have to find out.

Near the bridges was probably the next place he should check out, yes, no doubt there would be many crazily enough trying to get back to the other side, rechoosing their decision to stay or just wanting out if they were from originally that Asylum of the City. And if they weren't trying to get away, they were conducting who knows what deeds or just gazing away from the city...oh yes, there would be targets by the bridges...

The line of thought was cut however, when there was a soft huff sound, that of someone losing a bit of air for a moment after falling or being hit. Someone was around and forgot to be stealthy.

Phantasm turned around calmly and noticed a girl wearing a cat suit of a kind. Mentally, Andrea was raising her eyebrows. Noticing the sling shot being pulled out, Phantasm took mental note of possible hostility...but from a girl? Was probably just scared, but who knew with Gotham...a city of nutjobs...especially now.

"I think you missed Halloween, little girl," Phantasm remarked in his eerie voice.

Normally Phantasm would of run, but with only a little girl, he figured he was safe. Maybe, maybe he might even let her live. But then again, there was a chance he'd kill her just so she wouldn't have to grow up in such a place, a justified killing since it seemed to already be taking a hold of her...but only a bit of small talk would determine what he/she should do to this...little kitty.

Carrie let her eyes widen behind the half mask. At least whatever that thing was didn't know who she was. Something Carrie constanly fought with the Bat about. It seemed stupid a half mask or eye mask could cover your idenity.

Then she bristled at being called little. 'Cool it Care!' she cried metally to herself. "Oh,I geuss I did. What's up with your out fit. Did your closet go craz-" she cut herself off before finishing that.

Why did she always have to put up a fight. If she had just said 'I guess I did.' she might have made it out without a fight. Quickly she brought a projectile to her sling shot. Catgirl loaded it but didn't aim or fire. She had to wait. Batman had trained her to keep them talking until he could come. It was meant as an alarm sytem. If he heard her talking on the battle feild he knew he had to come save her,Tim kne the same thing to save her. Her and Batman had made up the alarm after she stopped being Robin and became Catgirl with a much less color full suit. Which had to mean that he kept his eye on Robin be the pretty colors.

Phantasm watched the girl for a bit and noticed, unsurprisingly, that she didn't like being called little...it was probably the reasoning for her response that she cut short, rather than the costume comment.

"Oh, I guess I did. What's up with your outfit. Did your closet go craz-"

Andrea smiled behind the mask, "And what if it did?"

Usually playing along rather than getting angry would actually stump the one originally giving the comments. Didn't work all the time, but every so often it did. It was amusing really, how sometimes a human thought process could be stumped so easily.

Phantasm once more noticed the subtle actions of this girl, she was loading a projectile of some sort, not aiming though, but still loading. Intended or not, even mere loading was a statement of its own. He would not stand around idle for much longer, he would either kill the girl or leave. There was some jobs to do.

Without missing a beat Carrie responded, "You should've gotten a new closet before you let the problem get that far. I'm Catgirl. You are???" she asked.

She gave a tiny smirk at the way the thing had tried to throw her off. Carrie knew how to handle it because she was often the one makeing the first come back. Curoisity was a great cover up too. Act curious and maybe they wouldn't notice what the heck was going on.

Carrie stood relaxed with the sling shot pointing at the ground. She had a plan. A very out going plan that might get her killed but she had trained with the Bat and that was nothing to laugh at. Plus, this thing had just killed four people she could see and possibly more! What was left of the city deserved justice.

"I had my reasons for keeping it."

That was all Phantasm said, she didn't let on who she was, did not say she was Phantasm. The girl would probably hear the feared rumors herself at some point. However, something was bothering him, this girl...Cat Girl apparently, was calm. Not something one usually was around her.

Something wasn't right about her. She was more than what she seemed, she had a plan of some sort, or both. Phantasm narrowed his eyes, it was time to gauge her.

"I must go now, I have things to do. Justice to give."

With that, Phantasm turned around and walked off the opposite direction, back toward the rest of her territory, where she and the five band of thieves had originally come in from. As she/he passed the body of Mary Henderson again, she kicked it softly aside, continuing on her way.

The whole time, she kept her senses focused sharply as she was taught so long ago, while keeping as if she really was just leaving. Even Bruce or those on par with him would have a tough time deciphering this.

Bruce kept walking slowly along alleys, lifting rubble and looking for survivors. He hadn't found any, but he figured that anyone who was alive, didn't want to be found.

He kept on walking until he heard two very familiar voices. One from Carrie, and the other from-

    "Andrea!"

He quickly grappled up a building, not wishing to be seen by either one. He managed to get to a building directly behind them, and stayed there and watched.

Once he heard Carrie talking, he knew it couldn't end well, and jumped down directly behind the Phantasm.

It exploded, but she had already looked down so not to be blinded temporarily or even distracted too much...but it was enough for Cat Girl to suddenly appear on her left and grab her arm, trying to twist and she did get a little bit...but no, Phantasm had caught on to this little ploy.

She moved with Cat Girl this time, straining her arm but not doing the damage the girl was hoping for. It was obvious now that Bruce and her worked along with each other, so it was time Andrea took her seriously.

As Phantasm turned while being led by Cat Girl, she twisted her hand in her grasp so she was also holding Cat Girl's arm at the same time and activated her smoke so it would quickly cover Cat Girl's face. This would cause her to break off and cough for a bit, once that was done, Phantasm kneeled down and did a spin kick to trip her up, while she wheezed. Doing it quickly enough not to feel connection if there was any.

So not really mattering whether she tripped the girl up or not as well, she flipped backwards and onto a dumpster, staring at both of them.

"We'll meet again, Cat Girl," a nod to Batman, "you too, Bruce. I've been wanting to see you again."

With that, she used her smoke to cover herself quickly, and if they felt through it...she was gone.

    Red X
    Ravaged Streets of Gotham

X slowed his pace a bit when he got closer to his destination. About half a block later and he was standing at the foot of a viciously disgruntled building; a carcass of it's former self. This was Red X's apartment building, or what was left of the thing. He lived up in penthouse suite. But now the place looked like an old, dusty shell, as if a nuke had run it down.

He ran up to the general area of where the basement entrance would have been, scrummaging through large chunks of rock and brick. He lifted the final block and threw it aside, staring down at the rusted metal that was the mentioned entrance. There was a worn out padlock - another worthless barrier to his goal. He simply sent a stiff, vertical chop into it, snapping it open like a chestnut. He pulled the door up and over and made his way inside...

    =======

The basement was pitch black, except for a simple flickering light bulb swaying dimmly to and fro from a loose chain attached to the ceiling. He walked briskly to a corner of the basement and pushed over a large shelf. Behind it was a huge safe that made up about a third of the entire wall.

X clicked a few buttons on a panel infront of the metal door, and the entranced hinged open. He entered, quietly, prepare for the inevitable war outside...

Carrie felt Andrea's grip and sucked in a lung full of smoke. For half a second she thought that the smoke wouldn't keep her from letting go. Then she had a full blown coughing fit. She was leg swipped and fell hard.

Catgirl didn't get up. She lay on the ground struggling to breath. It apeared she wasn't as recovered from the fall as she would have hoped and the smoke was not helping. Carrie lay on her back hacking, she didn't even have the streght to move at the moment. It was all to much. Her family,Gotham, falling, and now Andrea! Plus Bruce was going to kill her. Yep, she might as well just lay there and die.

Andrea's last words rung in her head. They would meet again. Next time Carrie would show Andrea what a little girl the Catgirl was.

Carefully she rolled to her knees and tried to stand but ended up kneeling with her arms around her stomach hacking her lungs up. Whatever that gas was it was nasty. Carrie really wished Tim had been there. Then they would have taken her down faster than you could blink. This was a heavy reminder that she was not a superhero, she was a side kicks' side kick. Outracked and out fought by Batman and Robin. Then she went and tried to take down a villain Batman had told Robin and her to stay away from....she was an idiote.
