Saga Best single images of the entire movie saga? (image-heavy)

TESB has so many:


This is such a classic. Another step in understanding the ways of the Force for both Luke and us.










So much emotion in these, especially from the first look at Han's face in carbonite then right to Leia's. The lighting and colors are great too.




Vader and Luke with their sabers drawn here is one of the most iconic images by far, and these moments right before are just as good. You can almost hear Vader's line in the top one. I like how we get the first look at them together without their sabers. It's simple yet very striking.


Another good one with Vader looming and showing how vulnerable Luke is by drawing first.


Compared to the previous one, Vader is done messing around. Right up in front Luke.


Memorable because it's it's the first time Luke calls him father. Thinking about them as father and son and knowing that Vader will be redeemed, he doesn't seem as menacing here. It's a little glimpse of the desperate and troubled Vader in ROTJ that's made clearer in the Vader speaking out/lightsaber construction deleted scene.


Tied with TFA as my favorite ending. Again, the shot with them and the droids is one of the most iconic, but this one might be the best of just Luke and Leia. It's so memorable and meaningful thinking of Luke, Leia, and Han as a family.

It's been well represented here already, but if there's any one shot which conveys the Star Wars experience for me, it has to be Luke and the binary sunset.

That said, I'm a little surprised no one had offered up this beauty for consideration:

The return to Tatooine. It's always nice to see the droids together.


Back on his home planet as a Jedi Knight. Luke has changed so much since ANH and still has a ways to go.




Mark Hamill does such a good job here. Easily one of the best moments of the saga.


Vader is conflicted throughout ROTJ, and as he turns and becomes Anakin again, you can really see his pain and regret through his worn mask. A very powerful scene.




Again, his face says it all.


Had to put this one in again.

 

There's this, and then there's everything else.

 

TPM has lots of good ones that distinguish the PT from the OT:






Very different seeing a public event of this scale in Star Wars.


One of my favorites. It's so different from anything else we see. Something about flags in Star Wars seems so strange, but I like it.




These two together are pretty strong. Both nice moments.












This is the image of Qui-Gon. If the Jedi had baseball cards, this would be his picture.

I really liked the new take on the opening. It's still kinda weird to see.




Doesn't get much better than this. Wow. I couldn't believe this when I saw it in the teaser.


A New Force Hope Awakens?


TFA has a lot of familiar but new/different Star Wars, and I think it works well. It's cool seeing this. It reminds me of Luke playing with his Skyhopper model.

look good together. A small remnant of the Rebellion and the full power of the First Order.




Obi-Han. It's powerful seeing the other side of the the ANH Falcon scene. Also, the Obi-Wan hut scene is my all-time favorite; Han taking up the Obi-Wan role is very meaningful.


Why not? It's Star Wars!




Again, couldn't believe this from the teaser. Like the funeral pyre, I never imagined seeing Vader like this.






Finn's baseball card picture.


Never noticed how good this one is until now. I always like it when non-Jedi characters hold lightsabers.

Just before the bridge. Han's last chance to back away, but he decides to go on. He's come a long way since ANH.

One of the best shots of the Falcon in TFA.

I'll make a separate post for Rey meeting Luke because there are quite a few moments that make it such a powerful scene.

 

There are so many good shots from TFA. I wanted to put a shot or two from Rey's encounter with Luke up there but I was too lazy to look for more than one picture.

She still can't believe Luke is real.


Jedi Knight and myth. A bit menacing here.


Another one of a more menacing and mysterious Luke.


Completely broken.


She accepts he's real but is still concerned.






Open these 3 in a separate window and cycle through them to see the emotion. The look in his eyes is telling. Now he can't believe Rey is there.


Now go back and forth between this and Rey just after Luke turns around. Also between this and the one of Luke just above. She's concerned for Luke.


"What calls to me belongs to you." Willing to help bring Luke back but still very concerned for him.


Not ready for her plea. Such a troubled expression.


Not quite sure what to say about this. Fear, anger, grief, despair. "Don't do this. You shouldn't be here."




She goes from a plea to a demand in these 2. "I wasn't ready for this, and you're not ready either, but you can't hide any longer. You need to come back."






He shows so much emotion in these last 3. The last one always gets me; it's hard seeing Luke like this.

I know this isn't really the point of the thread, but I wanted to do it for this scene. Seeing Luke again is certainly one of the saga's best moments.

 

So many! But if I had to choose one - even after having already been introduced to snowspeeders, the SSD, the probe droid, etc - it would be this scene through the macrobinoculars that made me say, "WTF THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!"

This might be my favorite 3 seconds in all of Star Wars. The binoculars then the shot of the walkers is just fantastic.
