Abq Blood Drive Saturday 9/22/07

I should have posted this over here sooner. Please come be a hero and make a difference!

We discussed it a little over the weekend at Bubonicon but I made a call on Monday to our landlord for work and they stated that we are more then welcome to hold a Blood Drive in the shopping center parking lot any time this month.

Date - September 22, 2007

Time - 3:00pm - 6:00pm

Donations - minimum 15 people

Location - parking lot outside Angels & Saints, 11130 Lomas Blvd NE 87112. We are right next door to a large Target near Eubank.

Troopers - will add more as people sign up.

My mom says we are more then welcome to use the back of the store for resting and changing - we have 2 bathrooms. We will probably order pizza for the troopers as well.

John from the Anaszi said they would like to work this with us as a combo trooping event as well. My dads Knights of Columbus group said they would help advertise the drive and come donate as well. So, I think between the three organizations we will be set for the minimum 14 units that the blood takers want.

If you can't troop but would like to donate, I think you can set up an appointment with the blood mobile to come in.

ETA - put the date that seems to be the concensous for the troop. I will confirm with the UBS hopefully tomorrow.

Blood Donor Qualitifcations/Restrictions:

Age: 17 or older - parental permission required in some states for donations made by a minor
Weight: at least 110 lbs (50kg)
Donors must show identification with legal name and one of the following: date of birth, SSN, UBS ID Number, Photo ID
Donation Frequency At least 8 weeks between whole blood donation
Do Not Donate If You
Have cold or flu symptomson on the day of donation or do not feel well.
Have taken oral antibiotics in the last three days.
Have had hepatitis after the age of 11.
Have had close contact with anyone who has had clinical hepatitis within the last 12 months.
Have a history of cancer in the past year. (except in some skin or in situ cancer.)
Have had a tattoo, ear or skin piercing, acupuncture, accidental needlestick or come in contact with someone else's blood in the past 12 months. Ear or skin piercing and acupunctre procedures performed with single use, sterile or properly heat sterlized equipment are acceptable.
Have received a blood transfusion in the past 12 months.
Have had malaris in the past 3 years or traveled to a malaria risk area within the past 12 months.
Have been treated for syphilis or gonorrhea in the past 12 months.
Have used a needle to inject nonprescriptive drugs (i.e. steriods)
Are at risk of HIV exposure, the virus which causes AIDS.
Please bring a list of all medications that you have taken in the past month.

I'm about 90% certain that I'll be there along with someone else who just acquired a Star Wars costume and can't wait to show it off.

We had a great turn out and a really good time. We brought in lots of blood donations. In fact, I think they were overwhelmed and had to turn people away because they weren't expecting so many walk-ins.

Great job troopers!!! I was proud to be a part of it!

We got a total of 17 donations. We exceeded expections! They'd love to have us again!
