Dental Floss of Doom

During the fight at the Sarlaac Pit, Boba Fett uses his cable that he shoots from his wrist (which I like to call the dental floss of doom) to tie up Luke. There is a quick shot of Luke right as he's being tied up and he looks like he's standing completely upright and still with his arms at his sides so the cable easily goes around him. It's as if he went out of his way to pose like that. Did anyone else see that? What's he doing?

 

i just watched the scene, and seems like Han and Chewie fall over. He thought he had elimated the threat of Boba Fett (HAHA, that rhymes), and he was looking down to make sure Han and Chewie were okay and not going to fall over. He was holding his lightsaber in a ready mode, so his arms were straight and tense.

 

That's what makes sense. I just always thought that quick shot looked really goofy.

 

The cable probably wrapped Luke up, pinning his arms against his body.

 

that was my thought too bib, before i watched the scene. luke clearly, to me, has his arms tight against his torso. next time you watch it, you should keep an eye out for it.

 

Add this to Anakin's "Hey, cut off my arm!" pose, and it starts to look like those Skywalkers like to make things easier on their enemies.

Either that, or Luke really likes to get tied up...

 

I forgot about that one. Those crazy Skywalkers...

Does Leia do anything like that too?

 

She closes her eyes when she shoots (in ANH, at least). Does that count?

Can't think of any cases where she does something more in line with what Anakin and Luke do, though.

 

I guess that counts. Though I guess anyone could close their eyes and hit a stormtrooper.

 

reading the title and watching The Temple Of Doom, i think i could envision a funny a%$ movie

 

Haha. I always thought a good parody of the title would be Indiana Jones and the Shirley Temple of Doom.

Back on topic, this scene always bugged me and made me laugh at the same time. It's nice to see that other people noticed it.

 

I hate to say this, because I love this movie, but remember this was filmed in the early '80's. It's kind of obvious that the shot you're referring to was played backwards. They started with the cable already wrapped around him and pulled it off. Then they played it backwards so the cable appears to wrap around him. Watch it again. You'll see that I'm right. It's a common movie trick to get a desired effect, like a lightsaber flying into your hand.
