Did GL overide Boba Fett's EU story to fit the events of AOTC?

Should we disregard the idea the Boba Fett was born Jaster Mereel? I think we should. In 1996, in the short story The Last one Standing: The Tale of Boba Fett in Tales of the Bounty Hunters states that Boba Fett used to be the Journeyman Protector Jaster Mereel. Six years later in 2002, we find out that Boba Fett was not Jaster Mereel. Jaster Mereel was supposed to be a Mandalorian Warrior who died because of Jango Fett's rival Montross (SW: Bounty Hunter). Boba Fett was born a clone of Jango in AOTC. Wasn't the EU story overidden by GL to fit the continuity of the films? GL has the power to do this if the EU doesn't match with the films.

    Feedback anyone?

As I recall, the Jaster story was meant (or perhaps it is now) a story told in the GFFA as Boba Fett's origin. Nothing more than something made up in-universe to explain Boba Fett. Jaster's relation to Jango was meant to give the tale some basis in fact.

But yeah, Lucas just ignored the story in general...

Check out the New Essential Guide to Characters and Jango Fett: Open Seasons. Those sources have really good continuity fixes for the Boba Fett origin.

So yeah, Lucas did override it. But the EU fixed it, and made a couple good stories out of it in the process.

Good ideas. I knew the EU must have been fixed up since AOTC was released.

I believe all Boba's backstory was applied to Jango Fett. Think of it as something made up in a made up universe.

Nothing says that Jaster Mereel was Boba's birth name, after all, and since none of the EU goes into Fett's childhood, absolutely nothing in AOTC contradicts the EU.

I think it was a good idea to make the Jaster Mereel story kind of a GFFA urban legend. It makes sense that Boba Fett would have that kind of effect.

    Galaxy Far, Far, Away.

    It's a no-brainer, but I had to ask once, too. :p

Thanks. I didn't have to ask what EU meant. I figured that out in seconds.

The Boba Fett/Jaster Mereel story starts off when Boba is like... 18. The EU never covered any period of his history prior to when he was 18. AotC filled in that gap, and from using other EU sources, we can reason that Boba took the alias "Jaster Mereel" for a time, when he was on Concord Dawn. Simple. :)
