    I don't understand why it can't be both.

    If there is no new generation of Skywalkers I think the franchise is losing its heart. Yes there is more than one family in this vast universe, but the core of Star Wars has always been a family saga. I think you can have both of these things, so I hope this movie does not say there is no continuation of the family bloodline.... because it simply isn't Star Wars if the "next generation" doesn't consist of Skywalkers.
