Hope it won't be too bad. I hope the fans' voices are heard and the set isn't left to decay in the harsh desert.

Also, that video is pretty awesome, the 1977 set is still holding up very well and still impresses.

    I was there 2 weeks ago - 24th March.

They had just started clearing some of tthe dunes. There was a large loader in moving sand that is covering a small part of the set. Obvioulsy where they had uncovered was damaged considerably. I was happy to see them in there doing something about it. The Repro Hadada set around the corner is compelty destroyed and it would be a shame if the same thing happened to the Mos Espa set.

I'll try and port some photos up soon of what I saw.

I'll try to donate something this month. Apparently they'll try to restore what has been destroyed and the person who oversaw the set construction back then will also oversee the process now in order to be faithful to what was there.

Way cool pics. The blue sky and the sun on the structures instantly bring to mind the scene where Anakin embraces Padme before departing to find his mother. One of my favorites.

The first 3 pics were taken middle of the afternoon. There were alot of people about hassling us to buy stuff, camel rides etc plus the digger was doing its thing clearing the sand from one end (finding photos of the digge rworking were hard to find as when we were there I deliberately tried not to get it in any shots).

We went back at 6am the next morning as the sun was coming up and there was no one around, quite surreal and fantastic lighting. I'll put some more up of the set if anyone is keen on seeing them

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere.

^ It sure does. The sand out there is some of the finest sand i've ever seen. I'm still cleaning it out of my camera!

Went to the beach last weekend. Sand. It does get everywhere. You were right. Tell your sister you were right.

Story idea. What if the untrained Force-sensitive young Anakin had done that to save Mos Espa without quite knowing why, baffling everyone including Shmi?

It's amazing that they were allowed to just leave it there in the first place.

A dune covering the set would have actually been the best thing to happen if it was otherwise neglected. It's actually an ideal condition for preservation as far as archeology is concerned. Obviously uncovering it and maintaining it is preferable.

Incorrect sorry. There is (was) another set just around the corner from here. The dunes covered it and it was completely destroyed. You can see the remains in my video.
