    WOW!
    Looking at all these pictures!!!!

That's what I really liked about the PT was all the unique planets and what is Episode VII giving us?
(no offense to the OT as Hoth and Bespin, and for that matter the gray Dagobah, were all alien and unique too!) Same old desert and snow planets. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yeah, unless there's a lot more that we haven't been shown yet, then I have to agree with you -- The TFA's locations feel boring, and been there, done that.

At least the rumored place where Luke is hanging out looks pretty cool:

The thing is, this thread shows that they could've used all real locations and still given us something visually spectacular and new. Oh well, more cool locations available for Ep. 8 and 9 at least.

I'd like to find something more alien looking, but still real. (Not just cg stage background)

You don't need unusual natural formations to create visually interesting planets (though there are studies showing that people are attracted to natural formations that look like human structures, as you can see in some of the above). Sometimes, the most familiar landscapes (deserts, snowy mountains, grasslands) with interesting augmentations (such as a ble sun, five moons in the sky, or alien structures) can be the most compelling. Skellig may end up being the most gorgeous location yet.

Love what we're seeing so far. Would like to see Savannah and Mongolian steppe-like planets in the future.

Agreed. Familiar and simple work really well in Star Wars. I'd love some sort of springtime meadow planet:

Just got back from a second visit to Patagonia(stayed at the hotel on that island the first time) and I'd definitely agree with that. I think it has the potential to be similar to Iceland in terms of being an amazing previously largely unknown location that isn't actually THAT hard to access, no extreme altitude, no political instability and decent infrastcrure.

I especially love the combination of large glaciers and temperate woodland that's rather unique and potentially otherworldly, Parque Nacional Quelat in Chile especially with its hanging glacier stands out for me.

Imagine say a space port or some hidden entrance CGIed between the waterfalls.

I'd like something grey for a different colour scheme... We have had plenty of yellow/red, white, green etc

I do love the fact that we got a water world with Lukes island!

Cappadocia's gorgeous. One of my best memories is of staying in one of its rocky dwellings. Unfortunately, the geopolitical situation in the region makes it an unlikely place for filming.

Also, I suspect the photos above have filters applied to them. Here's the general color scheme of the place:

Prambanan Temple Complex in Java. This would be an extremely cool location in my opinion. The surrounding scenery is amazing as well.

I thought Maz's castle was certainly inspired by South Asian temples like this (though I was thinking of Angkor Wat):

Siem Reap in Cambodia would be great for the variety of temples -- some in great shape and some in forest-hidden ruins.

What we haven't gotten any of from Star Wars is an honest-to-goodness tropical location. I vote the Chocolate Hills in Bohol Island as a location for a low-altitude, zig-zagging X-wing/TIE fighter dog fight, or maybe eggs of ancient, giant creatures that take centuries to hatch:

statues, figures of Jedi and Sith frozen in time and space as the characters walk though the landscape .. dissolving as they are approached..
