That certain genetic conditions like sickle cell anemia and cystic fibrosis are actually the result of genetic protection? (against malaria in the case of sickle cell anemia and tuberculosis in the case of cystic fibrosis)

Due to pressures on certain populations, over hundreds of years, natural selection favours a heterozygous (2 different) genetic component which (in the case of malaria)discourages parasite replication [HbA Hbs instead of HbA HbA ] however due to basic genetics sometimes an individual develops the homozygous form and becomes ill. [Hbs Hbs]

Sometimes disease is just genentic protection backfiring!
