    Week 12 - Saturday, November 28th

    FFFU at The Awful Velocipedestriennes
Game Name: The Border War -
    Trophy: The Old Oaken Bible
At Kick: 10 Degrees, Heavy Wind, Snow

For three quarters, despite the weather, Josh Heupel and FFFU stuck to their guns and were poised to upset The Awful Velocipedestriennes and throw the world into the chaos of tiebreakers.

Leading 17-0 entering the fourth quarter, all FFFU had to do to claim the Old Oaken Bible was hold onto that lead.

Chad Hall took the first offensive snap the Awful Velocipedestriennes had for a 49 yard touchdown to put the first kink in the armor of FFFU. They now had a ten-point lead, and 13:57 to protect it.

After the teams traded punts, Johnny Manziel scrambled for a 15-yard touchdown on a broken play as only Johnny Football can, and brought the score to 17-14. FFFU still had a lead - but it was only 3 points. But, they only had to protect it for 5:56.

Thanks to a first-down sack, FFFU couldn't get a first down and punted away for the 9th time in the game. Johnny Football and the Awful Velocipedestriennes made them pay, as Percy Harvin found the endzone with 44 seconds left to give Awful Velocipedestriennes the lead for the first time all game.

FFFU's desperation attempt to find a winning score of their own would end when Matt Leinart was intercepted by Vinnie Sunseri at the Awful Velocipedestriennes 16 yard line, ending the game and sealing the win.

Leinart ended the game with 50 pass attempts in the wind and snow - completing 30 of them - for 279 yards a touchdown and two interceptions. Manziel, meanwhile, only attempted 8 passes, and completed 4 of them, picking up almost as many yards with his legs (45) as through the air (59). Chad Hall lead all rushers with 83 yards on the game.

FFFU was held to 1.3 yards per carry by the Awful Velocipedestriennes' defense, meaning Leinart was left to try to attack through the air in the elements

Final Score: Awful Velocipedestriennes 21, FFFU 17

    Do we have to?

Surely there is enough leftover snow to bring with us.

    And what about bowl games?

I should totally play in the Toilet Bowl game, because we all totally need to see a team with a sub-.500 record in a bowl game . . .

And, we're coming to you. From Atlanta, Georgia. The birthplace of the modern College Football Conference Title Game. The stadium where legends are born, dreams are shattered, and boys become men.

Two teams enter, similar in some ways, divergent in others. Both have shown an impeccable ability to impose their will on others.

The Scarlet and Grey Sloopies, from Columbus, Ohio, went through the regular season unscathed, entering the title game at a perfect twelve and oh. They had close calls along the way, sure, and almost lost. But they locked up their place in Atlanta with a couple of games left to play, leaving their entire division in the dust.

Carried by their offense, and likely Fauxman Winner, Cardale Jones. The Sloopies' attack has, at times, seemed unstoppable, and at other times that word has seemed woefully inadequate.

Conversely, the Awful Velocipedestriennes come in with two blemishes on their record, including one in league play to OBC's MVPs. That blemish meant they had to get some luck along the way - including help from these same Sloopies they face today - to get to the title game. But, now that they've arrived, they bring the best defense that major college football may have ever seen.

To call it a strength-on-strength matchup, though, and focus only on the Awful Velocipedestriennes' defense vs. the Sloopies' offense would do a disservice to the offense of the Awful Velocipedestriennes. They've proven time and again adaptable, efficient, game controlling, and capable of producing big plays.

It's all on the line today.

    The JCCC Title Game

Scarlet and Grey Sloopies vs. The Awful Velocipedestriennes

By any account and measure, this one was worthy of being called the championship.

Mike Nugent was six-for-seven on the day on field goal attempts, including the game winner with 1:36 to play.

In the first game all season where Cardale Jones couldn't find the end zone, the Awful Velocipedestriennes employed an almost perfect "bend but don't break" defense, as evidenced by the high-powered offense settling for a field goal attempt seven times, and finding the end zone only once.

The Awful Velocipedestriennes opened the game by punting, but after they forced a three-and-out of their own, they needed only two plays to get on the endzone and put the Scarlet and Grey Sloopies in the unfamiliar position of trailing a game, as Johnny Manziel found J.J. Arrington on an out route, and he sped 40 yards to the endzone. The Sloopies would respond on their next drive, but only with a field goal, and the first quarter would draw to a close with the Awful Velocipedestriennes leading 7-3.

A second field goal from Nugent would bring the Sloopies to within 7-6, but another big play touchdown was looming for Awful Velocipedestriennes, as Tevin Coleman took the ball on a draw play and went 55 yards to pay dirt, making it 14-6 in favor of the team from St. John. The Sloopies would answer right back, though, with Carlos Hyde taking it 31 yards for the score just four plays later. Another Nugent field goal would give the Sloopies the lead going into the half, at 16-14.

The Sloopies took the opening kickoff of the second half as far as the 4 yard line, but stalled out again, and once again called on Nugent, who extended their lead to 19-14. Midway through the third quarter, another big play touchdown made it look as if the Sloopies might pay for their inability, as Arrington tore through the Sloopies' defense for a 66 yard touchdown, the only play on the drive. A missed Nugent Field Goal capped another short-circuited Sloopies drive, and the Awful Velocipedestriennes took a 21-19 lead into the fourth quarter.

Jeremey Shelley would open up scoring in the fourth quarter, booting a 50-yard attempt through the uprights, to extend the Awful Velocipedestriennes' lead to 24-19. Cardale Jones would again lead his team down the field to answer that score, but again, it was just a field goal, maing it a 24-22 game with 7:04 to play. Jones would get the ball back after a punt with 4:22 to play, and would lead his team to the 25 yard line where a 42-yard Nugent field goal put the Sloopies back on top 25-24.

Johnny Manziel picked up one first down, but was stopped short on his second attempt to get his team close enough to attempt a game-winning field goal. The ball was turned over on downs, and with only two timeouts left, the Awful Velocipedestriennes were forced to watch Jones take a knee three times and then run to midfield to celebre that win.

Jones, despite not finding the end zone, completed 29 of 56 passes for 326 yards. LaDanian Tomlinson added 95 on the ground on 19 carries for the Sloopies. Johnny Manziel was a more modest 6 of 8 passing for 100 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, and the Awful Velocipedestriennes gained 214 yards on the ground at a 5.0 yard per carry clip. J.J. Arrington lead the way with 92 yards on 13 carries, while Tevin Coleman added 68 on just 5 carries.

Final Score: Scarlet and Grey Sloopes 25, The Awful Velocipedestriennes 24

    My thought is

    Playoffs

    Semifinal, Sloopies play Alabama.
Final, if they win, I take the highest picked players in the draft not selected by Lloyd at each position, and he goes up against them in the final.
