Blimey! I think I'm Sharkboy's nearest neighbour :p I live just outside of Oxford in the UK.

    [image=http://www.npower.com/education/images/didcot.jpg]

The town's a bit ropey once it get's dark (not Oxford itself, where I live), we've got a power station which makes it look like the opening titles of The Simpsons, but on the bright side, no-one's been shot or killed for a couple of months now. :D

Y'know, saying it like that makes it sound really rough [face_laugh] It's not too bad really.

You hit it, as well, bee. And I hear you too, cloud. Hoops has become such an individualized sport, in my mind. Too many guys not playing team-ball, trying to get on SportsCenter.

On a side note, Springfield MA is now the 18th most violent U.S. city. Hooray!

Although, it really isn't that rough. Just the criminals killing the criminals, I would think.

Ooh, Vienna and Dublin... cool. I've been to Vienna a couple of times, beautiful city... palace here, palace there... l and it's a darn good thing I like museums.

Too bad I am sick of Austrians. LOL
Nice museums, yes. Though you won't find that many beautiful places outside the central districts apart from Schoenbrunn and lots of churches. Where exactly did you stay? Next time you're heading over, contact me. I know the best places, outgoing wise and for SW fans.

BDB... lol, yeah when we wanted to hear English we'd eat at the Australian pub in the city. [face_laugh]

The first time I went, I was staying in Bratislava so we just took the train since it's fairly close. The other time we stayed somewhere near the Volksoper. There were an awful lot of brothels and places selling porn around our hotel. Haha, people blamed me for booking the room there. :p So I know what you mean. But the old city is lovely. The Kunthistorisches (sp?) is my favorite museum ever.

Is that in reply to a post I made on another board??

It's the Kunsthistorische Museum. Have you been to the MUMOQ as well? It's that long stretched tan building only a couple of feet from the KH museum. Probably my favourite spot in Vienna to hang out.
Yeah, the Volksoper is part of the Guertel infamous for it's porn bars and shops. Did you know that James Bond: The Living Daylight (with Timothy Dalton as Bond) was shot at the Volksoper (and one block from the street I live in)?

LOL, no it was it response to you saying you're sick of Austrians. :p Where are you actually from?

And I've definitely been to the MUMOQ. Very cool that there's a place like that. I spent some time hanging out there, drawing and listening to bands play outside. I didn't know that about James Bond. We saw an opera at the Volksoper, La Boheme, and actually it was really bad... I was surprised. But the choral mass at St. Stephens more than made up for it. I love that cathedral... and the catacombs tour... *shudder*... fabulous, in a morbid kind of way. :p

Best Bond....Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. Oh wait, that's not Bond, but the Bourne films are far better than any of the recent Bond fare.

Timothy Dalton is THE BEST BOND!
Witty and romantic (just like every other Bond) but also more dark and less the uber-good, always smiling person the other Bonds are.

    P.S.: I am Austrian, RebelScum77.

Well said Billy Dee! Dalton was under rated. Literary wise he's the closest to Flemming novels. Colder, almost unlikable at times. Although the public really didn't take to him, it was a good direction to take the character after Roger Moore. Not that Moore was bad, but he was probably the most light hearted of the Bonds. I think it was that Starlog magazine that had a good article about it back in '87, that they were trying to give Bond his edge back.

It's okay for a hero to have that darker side. Take Eastwood for example. Classic anti-hero.

I thought the first Bourne movie was pretty weak, so I didn't bother with the second.

I like Brosnan as Bond, though the last film wasn't so good. I do hope they pick a good actor for the new Bond. One of the actors I saw talked about was a black man, which I think would be a great way to put a new spin on the franchise.

Heh. I should have known this would have devolved into Bond discussion. :p

I really like Brosnan as Bond. I really do. He's got a bit of each of the previous Bonds (not counting Lazenby) - Connery's charisma, Moore's wittiness, and Dalton's edge.

His films have been hit-and-miss, Goldeneye was great, Tomorrow Never Dies was lousy, The World Is Not Enough is meh and Die Another Day was decent but nothing special. But you can't blame Brosnan for the films' failures. The plots are confusing, the lines are cheesy and the gadgetry is surreal. A self-camouflaging car? Get out of here. At least in the 1960s a jet propulsion backpack didn't seem too incredibly far-fetched. Hell, I think NASA used them in training back in the day.

I simply think that the 90s Bond films have pretty much gotten rid of the global terrorist organization bent on world domination and replaced it with a few rich technology-obsessed moguls with a chip on their shoulder. At any rate most Bond films don't aim to get Acadamy Awards. They're action thrillers at best, popcorn flicks at worst that pretty much gives us a two-hour vacation from reality.

GARTH_MAUL is that meant to be spoken within the same phrase because I'm thinking that you and RS77 are getting your countries mixed.

Australia is very, very different to Austria

but then again, i could be the one reading your posts wrong.
