Colum, OH Help with Jedi costume

I was wondering if anyone had instuctions/suggestions on how to make the tabard portion of the Jedi costume. I've read that people just take to long strips of cloth and drape them over the shoulders and behind the belt. I would worry that they would keep sliding off. Any input?
