It took me a long time to understand this post. I was using "like" as a synonym for "request."

 

Are you not missing the word 'to' after 'like'?

 

No. Look at this model exchange.

"What would you like?"

"I would like service to Sydney."

The "like to" construction would to my ears suggest a more hypothetical situation that I did not expect to be fulfilled. Here, however, we are directly in the presence of someone who can provide transport, so simply saying where you would like to go is more appropriate.

 

Rightho, I see where you are coming from. Just a pity you do not understand the meaning of the word 'rider' in the context of this thread.
