Middle East Politics Discussion v2.0

An interesting series on CNN right now called "God's Warriors." Tonight it's talking about Jews, tomorrow, Muslims, and on Thursday, Christians. It's really nothing new to me, but some of my roommate's reactions to things, like the Massacre at the Tomb of the Patriarchs, shows how little many Americans really know about the Jewish obstacles to peace. Hell, my roommate didn't even know it was a Jew who killed Yitzak Rabin. People don't realize there are bad eggs on both sides. Sad.

All told, I prefer Terror in the Mind of God: The Global Rise of Religious Violence by Mark Juergensmeyer, but anything that shows both sides' nutcases, especially in a format that Americans just love, is good, IMO.

It's also interesting to note that the EU in its 4th day of suspending fuel subsidies for Gaza. Until Hamas's role is marginalized, or at least until it receives assurances that Hamas is not benefiting from the aid, the payments are going to be indefinately suspended.

It's an uncharacteristically direct action taken by the EU.
