Official Info Official Character Names Announced

Well, it has been speculated in the past (in NSA) that Ridley's character would be the central protagonist in this trilogy...

I would LOVE that!

EDIT: I would also have loved, though, to see a few names from early Star Wars drafts, like Deak, Kane, Starkiller, Cos Da****...
I suppose one or two of those might still show up!

 

What is Poe's battle cry? Nevermore!

 

New names, new adventures! It also pleases me that we're not inundated with apostrophe names. I'm totally in for the long haul as an "Official Only," but spoiler-free Star Wars: The Force Awakens member.

 

The only one I'm mixed on is Kylo Ren. All the others I'm fine with, although Finn is a little odd.

I'm not down with Poe Dameron, but I didn't like any of the Prequel names when they came out either. They will grow on me.

 

Funny, he doesn't look Finnish.

 

Hmm, I wonder if the fact that her name is Rey is even better proof that she is Leia's daughter. The name Rey sounds like it could be a homage to Padme. And let's face it Ridley looks extremely similar to Padme as well.

 

Now that I've begun to digest this, I'm thinking along these lines:

Poe Dameron doesn't sound altogether bad, but it's not a very powerful name. Compare it to Han Solo - simple, strong, catchy. Obi-Wan Kenobi - what a melodious name! Anything with Skywalker in it is an instant classic. Such power in that name!
Any name made up by GL, really, blows "Poe Dameron" out of the water.
And does it feel weird to have a lead trio where everyone has a one-syllable name? Yes, it does, actually! Especially when one of them is called Poe. Poe, of all names!

And don't get me started on Kylo Ren! Did they ask whoever came up with Sio Bibble if he had any discarded names lying around?

There's nothing we can do about this now anyway, so I'll just wait for my brain to get used to it.

 

Dameron is certainly Star Warsy enough, but uh.... Poe. Huh. I'm sure it'll grow on me

I noticed that starwars.com's caption to Poe's card said "Peo Dameron"... Probably just a typo.
Speaking of which, how would you pronounce "Dameron"; DAM-e-ron, Da-MER-on or Da-me-RON?

 

Yeah, that is a little odd. Over three trilogies we have:

Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Padme,

Luke, Han, and Leia,

...Rey, Finn, and Poe.

It's like the names get more simplistic as time goes on. Maybe in trilogy 4 we'll get characters that only have first initials for names. "Witness the continuing adventures of A, F, and W!"

 

You know, I think I'm beginning to get used to Rey, Finn and Poe. Especially in that specific order, it doesn't sound so strange.

EDIT: I guess that once we get to know the characters and get more substance behind the names, they'll only feel natural.

 

You're probably right ^^ But so far, Poe sounds terribly odd... And it sounds kind of clumsy to me too, for some reason. Which is strange, considering it's a pilot's name, and pilots can't afford to be clumsy...

I don't mind Kylo Ren. Then again, I read it with the Chinese pronounciation of the word "ren" ("person") so this perception is likely to change as soon as the real pronounciation is known!

 

Ya it is kind of funny how "Luke," "Ben," and "Owen" contrast with "Obi-Wan," "Qui-Gon," and "Yoda" lol.

 

It will be like Han where half the characters butchered his name.

 

Now I have Julie Andrews stuck in my head singing, "Poe Rey Finn."

 

THAT is cool. Makes me wonder if Rey is a Skywalker. Personally, I don't care if she's a Skywalker, a Solo, or a Smythe, as long as she's a Jedi. Don't care who else may be one or not, but as a dad with only daughters, they need a strong female Jedi to get them to watch the movies with dear old dad. I don't think it's a coincidence that they will watch Clone Wars more readily than the movies - and it has nothing to do with them being animated.

DarthWilliams, could you correlate the other "cards" for me??

 

Like I mentioned, none of the other ones matched up with anything (Kylo Ren's number matches up with a card of Luke and 3PO, for example). They might match up with some later sets or something else. There's no way those three I found were just pure coincidence, I think.
