I suppose I better say a few words.

 

Um. Who made The Modfather sock a mod account? I think that's a very, very bad idea. VIP for the colors, okay, whatever. But giving a sock that tons of people know the password to the power to do mod stuff and access private boards (as per latest posts) doesn't seem like the best thing to do.

Edit: Okay, at least the password's been changed at some point in the past few years, because the one I knew doesn't seem to work anymore. But whenever it was last changed, I'm sure there are still people out there who have it.

 

I'd think the password was changed immediately before the account was promoted???

Even if that were the case, why would a sock need to be a mod and have private board access? That's just begging to be cracked, and it's why Modfather got demoted the first time (or first several times, actually). In the past, it hasn't even really been the policy for Halloween socks to get MS access/mod status, and since it's unnecessary for them to have it since mods can switch back to their regular account to do mod stuff, I see no reason to introduce that kind of security risk.

It's also an accountability issue... if not everyone knows which sock is associated with which mod, you don't want the action log showing that a sock took a certain action.

Edit: So apparently it is not a shared account anymore... that does relieve one of the problems I brought up, but not all of them.

 

We don't allow Halloween socks to have MS access, so this one shouldn't either. The account is only used by one person (that's been here a very long time, so it isn't me ) and is their Halloween sock.

Looks like he is still gone. He hasn't logged in since the end of September. Maybe he will come back when there is more news on the SW TV series or the new Indy film.

 

Well how things change. I remember the discussion to make you a mod or not lol. All such a long time ago but it seems like the right decision was made. Well done for sticking with it for so long. You've become part of the funiture in these parts and have earned a long and healthy retirement.


That is until you can't take the lack of power anymore and come creeping back!

I was more just kind of amused that you would use a word like "duty" to describe the voluntary moderation of a Star Wars message board. No offense to mods or anything.
