ST Prelude to Force Awakens - Battle of Jakku - CGI Animation

I am a professional CG artist and decided to make this animation for fun as a personal project.

Back in April after watching the second Force Awakens teaser, I was struck by the image of the crashed Star Destroyer as pretty cool. I immediately began wondering and speculating on how it ended up there. As a tribute, I made this CGI animation of an opening battle scene of the Battle of Jakku as a realization of my thoughts. Fan speculation of course, and probably not accurate, but fun anyway I think.

Heh, yeah. Unfortunately I started making this before Lost Stars came out. Still wanted to finish it as a "what if" I guess.

That was bloody fantastic. An excellent way to ease us into TFA on Dec 17/18. The CGI also has that "sharpness" that so many CGI-heavy films these days have sacrificed in favor of soft-focus filters. In short, it looks more authentic and real than a lot of the stuff I see in blockbusters these days.

If you're not already working for ILM, you should be!

ETA: And though the CGI work is the most impressive element of this short, I have to also say that the opening crawl is perfect.

Pretty good, but I'm a fan of real sets and practical special effects. Not CGI.
