Hello! I'm planning on reading through the expanded universe novels in chronological order, and I was wondering if I should include any of the Young Adult series. Do you think they are worth the read?

Really, the majority of them aren't horrible, especially for ~150 page books with large print. You can generally read one of them in a single sitting.

Thanks for reply! If that's the case, I think I'll go through the adult novels and then read the YA books. I certainly won't be able to purchase them all though.

The young Boba Fett ones are pretty good. Most things by Ryder Windham too, if you can find them. And the Galaxy of Fear series if horror's your thing. The Junior and Young Jedi Knights books are practically essential if you want to get the most out of the post-ROTJ stories, but are perhaps the most irredeemably non-canon at the moment due to the new films. The Obi-Wan and Anakin-centric Jedi Apprentice and Jedi Quest series (and Last of the Jedi I suppose) were somewhat hit-or-miss in terms of quality IMO. That also seems to be the generally consensus around this forum too.

Oh and there's some series called Jedi Prince. You might want to look into that one. First.

I'd say give the YJK books a shot. They're simple but good. :)

Definitely worth including. There are very few that would qualify as actually 'bad'. Campy? yes. Cheesy? yes. But none are really Bad (sadly a few novels are).

The problems is more can you actually find all of them. Many have been out of print for a decade or more now.

Where would you get these YA novels from these days though? Can't seem to find them anywhere

Amazon's usually great for finding random stuff like that. I've done some casual checking in the recent past for some of these YA books, and they always seem to have plenty available. Some might even go for $0.01 (plus a 3.99 shipping cost), so you can get them for really great prices.

The Fett books aren't bad. You might check out a specialist SF bookstore if you have one near you. I found a lot of the YA books at Forbidden Planet in London (UK).

I got a lot of mine from both Ebay and Amazon. And as Laj says, regular old bookstores too. Sometimes you might get lucky and still find them at the big ones like Barnes & Noble, but I've had more luck at the smaller ones, which are sadly a dying breed, at least in the US. If a bookstore near you has a "used book" section, you'll often find old SW books there.

In addition to the suggestions for eBay and Amazon, I'd try used bookstores and garage sales. That's how I got all of my Jedi Apprentice/Quest books.

The Fett books are a fun part of the Clone Wars Multimedia Project, and are very quick reads. I read them as part of my read of the CWMP the last couple months. They involve Durge, Aurra Sing, Fett's unique knowledge about the dual identity of Tyranus/Dooku, and feature some battles and events mentioned in other CWMP works.

If you're familiar with The Clone Wars series, you'll see the 'first draft' so to say of some ideas used with young Fett on that show.

I had a couple of the Jedi Apprentice books in the library a couple of years ago. Unfortunately they were paperbacks which wear out after only a few checkouts, and they're out of print.

Seconding (thirding?) the suggestion of used bookstores.

You could also use a book search site such as Addall. I used these when I was looking for all of the Galaxy of Fear books.

they collected the young jedi knights books into collections and you can get them on amazon for decent prices. My parents gave my orginal single volume ones to a younger cousin when I was in college and I went and bout the collected ones. They were pretty good and reading them is essential if you want to read the njo series(which is 19 books) as the characters from it become extremely prominent.

Oh! I remember that series now! I read Glove of Darth Vader a LONG time ago. Hopefully they still have it at my local library (most likely no). I'm interested to see whats in store for me... Edit: Looks like there are quite a few copies floating around my area. Got the 1st 3 books in one placed on hold. This should be fun.
