Even if Ello is gone, they are going to keep pushing Abednedos hard. I've encountered them in nearly every Journey to TFA book/stroy/etc.

I was confused about asty as there was another abednedo xwing pilot in the group shots after the battle and I thought it was him at first.

Poor girl can't keep her teeth in her mouth. Every single shot she's like Bucky the Beaver with her teeth sticking out of her head

 

There's some good news, though. At the end of TFA, when Rey is flying off to meet Luke, you can see an X-Wing pilot that looks juts like Ello Asty in the crowd. So, either he has a colleague of the same species, or...this was a continuity error. Either way, a version of him lives on in canon!
